Chapter 254 - 254 ⤞ Ottar, the King
The objective was achieved, and it was time to get serious. They were about to enter the Dungeon.
Even though they would only be in the upper levels initially, they needed to stay alert. The Dungeon was unpredictable, making constant vigilance their best defense.
Under Riveria's expert healing magic, Bete regained consciousness after just five minutes. He sprang to his feet, his eyes clearing within seconds.
Though everyone expected him to attack again, he had apparently learned his lesson. Despite his fury at Adam's earlier mockery, the clear difference in their strength forced him to swallow his pride.
He simply couldn't win!
Not in combat, not in words. Better to leave it alone.
Sulking, he stood at the front of the expedition team, silently awaiting Finn's orders.
But while he hoped for peace and quiet, others had different plans.
Take Tiona, for instance. Still smarting from her encounter with Adam, she sought to rebuild her confidence by taunting Bete, deliberately mocking his wounds with no regard for her fellow Familia member.
The hot-headed werewolf nearly bit her several times, backing down only when Tione fixed him with a threatening glare.
To Adam's surprise, Ais and Lefiya approached to greet him.
"Hello, Adam."
"Long time no see, Adam."
Their polite, soft-spoken greetings stood in stark contrast to Bete's earlier rudeness.
He responded with a slight bow, "Hello, ladies."
This gentlemanly gesture shifted the onlookers' perception of Adam. They hadn't expected such courtesy from the man they'd secretly dubbed a demon.
"You're strong. I want to duel you." Ais, characteristically direct, didn't mince words.
Her abrupt challenge, issued before so many witnesses, left no room for graceful refusal. Such a bold move could have serious repercussions — ill-intentioned observers might spread troublesome rumors about both parties.
Yet Adam had no reason to decline.
If this prodigy, a rising star since her debut, wanted a harsh lesson from reality, who was he to deny her?
He wouldn't do justice to her sudden challenge if he didn't defeat her thoroughly enough to make her question her life choices!
"Sure, as long as the Sword Princess doesn't mind losing face." He shot back without mercy.
Despite being at a disadvantage as a lone wolf in another Familia's territory, he firmly accepted the challenge.
The two appeared to be at odds with each other.
Of course, they weren't really. At least Ais, in her innocent way, wasn't.
"Um, um, I'm sorry!" Lefiya frantically waved her hands beside them, "Miss Ais, Miss Ais didn't mean that! Please, please don't blame her!"
She seemed very agitated. Though she wanted to clarify things, her nervousness made her stutter, unable to form complete sentences.
Finally, she just looked at Adam tearfully.
"I know, I know." He stopped giving Lefiya a hard time and consoled her, "I understand what kind of person the Sword Princess is. Accepting her duel is also my way of repaying her for training Bell these past few days. We're not fighting."
"Re-really?"
"Yes, if you don't believe me, you can ask the Sword Princess yourself."
"That's right, Lefiya."
Ais hadn't intended to fight in the first place, and with his meaningful look, she maintained her usual calm demeanor, as if she hadn't just issued a challenge moments ago.
"Phew, that's good." Lefiya sighed deeply, patting her chest.
Tiona, look at them, then look at yourself! How embarrassing!
"Well then, Sword Princess, shall we start now, or wait for a better opportunity?"
"Let's wait a while." Ais thought for a moment, "I just reached Level 6, and my body hasn't quite adapted to it yet. Let's have the duel after the expedition, is that alright?"
"Of course, I'm available anytime." Adam had no objections but still displayed the dignity of a strong fighter, "I just hope the Sword Princess will use her full strength when the time comes. At least don't get defeated in one hit."
He thought such arrogant trash talk would anger her, but it didn't. Not only was she not angry, but she seriously agreed.
"Yes, I will." She nodded solemnly.
Apparently, she didn't think Adam was just talking big.
That made sense. Even though she had now reached Level 6, she still couldn't defeat the murderer from the 18th Floor. Yet that same murderer had his arm cut off by Adam with a single slash.
Although he kept emphasizing it was a sneak attack, given how strong the murderer was, even a sneak attack was enough to prove his strength.
So Ais wouldn't underestimate him, but rather would bring out her full power for a serious duel.
"Uh..." If anything, Adam was the one made uncomfortable by her serious attitude.
Originally, he had intended to mock her and demonstrate the gap between their abilities, while making her regret her inappropriate challenge. But she was naturally immune to such tactics, making him feel as if he were punching cotton.
Somehow, he felt he had become the unlikeable villain.
"Alright! Are the preparations complete? Let's move out!" Finn shouted from the front.
Under his command, the expedition team began moving toward the Dungeon.
Adam walked at the front alongside Finn, Riveria, Gareth, and others, like generals leading their troops, with the rest of the soldiers following behind.
They marched proudly toward their battlefield, the Dungeon.
Though they expected the first few floors to go smoothly, they unexpectedly encountered a very special person.
Ottar, the 『King』.
The only Level 7 in all of Orario — known as Orario's ultimate weapon!
He stood alone on this floor, his invincible expression unwavering as he planted himself firmly in the expedition team's path, clearly unwilling to let them pass.
As Finn and the others grew uneasy, another small figure appeared in everyone's view.
It was Liliruca!
She crawled up from the lower floor, bloodied and stumbling. When she spotted Adam's distinctive white cloak in the crowd, her eyes lit up.
"Lord Adam!" She shouted, "Lord Bell, Lord Bell was attacked by the Minotaur! Please, you must save him!"
"Hmm?!" Adam's brows furrowed.
He instinctively broke away from the group and rushed to her side to heal her.
But Liliruca, concerned about Bell, refused to let him waste time on her, urgently pleading with him to go to the lower floor.
Left with no choice, he handed her over to Riveria before running toward the lower floor.
But someone blocked his path. It was Ottar.
"Move aside!"
"I cannot let you pass."
"I'll say it once more — move aside!"
"Following that person's orders, no one is allowed to go down." Ottar's voice was cold and emotionless, carrying an air of superiority, as if the youth before him wasn't worth acknowledging.
For once, Adam's anger flared.
There was no point reasoning with such a mindless puppet; the only solution was to take him down swiftly and decisively.
Level 7? So what?
Just do it!
BOOM!
Without warning, the ground beneath Adam's feet cracked. His powerful aura erupted, shaking the entire floor and overwhelming everyone present. Some weaker individuals fell to their knees involuntarily.
The expedition team members in the distance stared at him in shock.
They never imagined Adam would be this strong!
Yet one person remained unmoved — Ottar.
His expression stayed calm, as if the pressure had no effect. But a careful observer would notice his tensed body, his hands unconsciously reaching for the greatsword on his back.
If Adam made any move, Ottar would instantly enter combat mode.
But the fight never began. Finn intervened before it could start, knowing a battle would completely derail their expedition plans.
"That's enough."
For the first time, this Pallum known as a hero displayed his authority.
"Ah, hello, Ottar."
"It's Finn."
"I didn't expect to find you blocking our path. May I ask why?"
"Eliminating enemies requires no reason, time, or place."
Though spoken between old acquaintances, the words carried dangerous undertones.
If Ottar got serious, he could potentially annihilate every Adventurer present — except for Adam.
"You're right, Ottar." Finn seemed to agree, but his next words carried their own weight, "Should I take this as your Familia's consensus? Is Goddess Freya declaring war on Loki Familia?"
"Uh..."
"I'll ask once more — is this Goddess Freya's will?" Finn's narrowed eyes promised immediate action if the answer was yes, leaving no room for excuses.
"No, this is based on my personal judgment." Finally, Ottar backed down.
Unlike the family-like unity of Loki Familia, the Freya Familia was plagued by internal conflicts. They were a collection of fools who'd fight themselves senseless trying to win their goddess's love.
And even that wasn't the worst of it!
With their constant infighting, the outcome of an all-out war between Familias would be uncertain. Even as a Level 7, Ottar couldn't face the entire Loki Familia alone.
A war would spell disaster for both sides.
What if other Familias took advantage of the situation?
Just as they had once united to drive the Zeus and Hera Familias from Orario, other Familias might ally against them too.
There was no choice but to back down.
He sighed and turned to leave.
As Ottar departed, Adam noticed something peculiar in his gaze — an evaluating look, like a superior appraising a subordinate.
Though puzzled by this, Adam had no time to dwell on it. His priority was clear: he needed to save Bell.
With the path now clear, he rushed toward the deeper levels of the Dungeon.
