Chapter 1961 There is no going back now.
[Where is he?]
A familiar voice came from the Artifact when Nux's call was answered, and the instant Nux heard that voice, his grin widened.
"Hello, Father."
He replied, his grin widening even further as he introduced himself politely.
"It is your filial son.
Did you miss me?"
[…]
There was no answer for a moment.
"Hmm? Can you not recognize your own Soul Son? And here I thought the Bond of Soul was stronger than the Bond of Blood.
That makes me quite sad. I foolishly thought you were my only family in this wretched world."
Nux pouted.
[…Nux.]
Nux's Father, Zylarith Chaosveil, muttered in a low voice, and Nux grinned even further.
"I knew you remembered me. Why would you send people to protect me if you didn't? Clearly, your love for me knows no bounds.
You saved me even when you were so far away, surrounded with riches. How can I not be touched by this?
Even if the threat you saved me from was sent by you in the first place."
Nux's tone suddenly changed.
Yes, that was the mission Nixgut and Zharak received.
Mission Damsel in Distress.
They were required to hire a mercenary who would go after the Leander Family while they were on their mission. Their husband, Nux Leander, would come and protect them, but he would be helpless against a Transcendence Stage Being, Marlik.
Marlik would then kill one or more of his wives to raise the stakes even further, and once the stakes were high enough, two of his 'father's men' would appear and protect him and his wives and take them to safety.
[I did what had to be done.]
Zylarith answered.
"Right, of course.
I am sure you had all the reason in the world to try and kill one or more of my wives, whom you know I love more than myself."
Nux nodded continuously, completely agreeing with his father.
[You are too naïve.]
Zylarith started.
[You still think this Universe revolves around you just because I gave you the system that made you better than others around you.
You are conceited. You do not think before you act, and you love those wives of yours too much. It is an apparent weakness that your enemies can and will take advantage of. Understand this, son, the more you love something, the quicker this Universe will take it away from you.
I was merely trying to show you the reality you have been avoiding all this while, to put you on the right path, a path to greatness, a path that is already set in stone for you,
A path you merely have to close your eyes and walk on.]
Zylarith explained, and seeing that Nux still remained silent, he continued,
[The Universe is Cruel, Nux. The only way to truly get what you want is to stand on top of it, just like how I told you to. However, if you remain as you are, you will never achieve that. There is still time. Come under my protection, and I will guide you. I will protect you, to make sure you and your wives are safe.]
"You are going to protect me?"
Nux raised his eyebrow.
[I will.
That Vampire is asleep again. What do you think will happen if a stronger cultivator came after you? Who will protect you this time if not me?]
"Certainly it wouldn't be those mercenaries you sent. They were quite weak."
Nux chuckled.
[…]
Zylarith turned silent.
"And you didn't exactly show off your ability to protect people when you didn't come help those poor lads even when they activated all the Call Artifacts they had to call you.
I gave them more than enough chance to call for reinforcements before I killed them, you know? But you never appeared.
Not a very compelling case, even if I do say so myself."
Nux chuckled.
[You… killed them?]
"Well, they did try to hurt my wives."
Nux answered as if it was the obvious thing to do.
[Who is helping you?]
"Do you truly think I need help dealing with some Transcendent Level Mercenaries? Your expectations of me disappoint me."
[Don't try to fool me. You shouldn't be a Transcendent yet.]
Zylarith quickly denied the possibility.
"Hmm? Did you forget what Power I have? You were the one who gave it to me, you know?
I had to work quite hard to get where I am today."
[You…]
Zylarith's tone changed. For the first time during this conversation, he seemed… shocked, dumbfounded even.
Nux carefully observed his father's reaction, but then, he sensed the space around him tremble, and his grin widened.
"Whoever you sent won't be able to find me, you know?"
[…what are you talking about?]
"Come on, Father.
You don't have to lie to your son.
Especially when you are so pathetically outmatched."
Nux laughed.
"Stop trying to trace the Artifact's dimensions. You will not find anything. The Space Dimensions around me aren't something anyone around you would ever understand."
Then, he stepped forward and disappeared, appearing inside a certain planet. Even though he stood right in front of the world's netizen, he couldn't see him.
After all, he was hiding in a different dimension. Vulpiana may have gone away from his life, but her Law, however, was still very much useful.
[Where are you?]
Zylarith questioned directly.
"You were the one who wanted to protect me, didn't you? How will you protect me if you don't even know where I am?"
[Don't play games with me, boy.]
Zylarith threatened, his voice turning cold. It looked like he was getting more and more desperate.
Nux, on the other hand, grabbed a Sovereign in front of him and started reading his memories. Of course, he never stopped conversing.
Keeping his father waiting for his answer would be rude, would it not?
Nux was a well-mannered and filial son.
"The game already started the moment you targeted my wives, Zylarith Chaosveil.
There is no going back now."
Nux replied, his golden eyes turning cold as he killed the Sovereign in front of him, devoured his body, and teleported away, appearing in front of another Sovereign and started reading his memories.
What do you think?
