Chapter 249
Chapter 249: Ma Junjie Pays a Visit
Xiao Feiyu knew that his words had likely soured his previously amicable relationship with Wang Yannian, but he didn’t care. Achieving his goals was all that mattered, and everyone else was merely a tool to him, true to his role as the villain.
As the two of them fell into an awkward silence, a servant entered the living room and announced, “Young Master Xiao, a young man claiming to be Ma Junjie is here to see you.”
Xiao Feiyu frowned upon hearing this. “Ma Junjie? What does he want?”
The servant shook his head. “He didn’t say. He just mentioned he needed to speak with you.”
“Do you need me to step out?” Wang Yannian asked indifferently.
Xiao Feiyu thought for a moment and nodded. “Please go ahead with your matters, Elder Wang.”
Although it was well-known in Donghai’s elite circles that Xiao Feiyu and Wang Yannian were collaborators, he didn’t want Wang Yannian to get involved in his dealings with Ma Junjie.
As for why he considered it a collaboration? The two had a confrontation at a banquet, and Ma Junjie seeking him out could only mean a potential partnership.
After Wang Yannian left, Xiao Feiyu instructed the servant, “Let him come in.”
“Very well, Young Master.”
It wasn’t long before Ma Junjie appeared in the living room. He wore a smile as if visiting an old friend, showing none of the aggression he had displayed at the banquet.
Xiao Feiyu couldn’t help but acknowledge that not everyone in this world was a fool. Take Ma Junjie, for example, who had been adapting his approach in Donghai from overtly aggressive to now more subdued and strategic. Some might call it slippery, others would say he was just emotionally intelligent.
Still, Xiao Feiyu wondered what Ma Junjie wanted with him. While somewhat expectant, he didn’t let it show. After all, Ma Junjie’s approach gave Xiao the upper hand.
“Ma Junjie, what brings such a busy person like yourself here today?”
Ma Junjie responded with a smile, “There’s a saying in the business world: ‘There are no eternal enemies, only eternal interests.’ You’ve heard this before, haven’t you?”
Xiao Feiyu nodded and raised an eyebrow, “So, you’ve come to talk business today?”
Ma Junjie wasn’t surprised by Xiao’s attitude. He smiled and said, “Your issues with Su Lin are well-known around Donghai. The whole world is watching and laughing at you now.”
“So, you mean to say you have a way to help me regain face?”
Ma nodded. “Do you know Li Ziyu?”
“I’m aware. She’s Su Lin’s lover, right? Though they haven’t officially acknowledged their relationship, it’s obvious to everyone. She just secured the agency rights for Su’s family business, making quite a splash. You’re not suggesting I take action against her, are you?” Xiao Feiyu said with a half-smile.
Li Ziyu was a hot commodity now, sought after by many for collaboration. Targeting her would be suicidal.
Ma shook his head, “You might not be aware, but Li Ziyu’s father, Li Tiancheng, and her grandfather, Li Weifeng, are both in Yangcheng.”
“That so…” Xiao Feiyu was momentarily taken aback, then quickly caught on, looking at Ma with a mix of surprise and appreciation, “Ma Junjie, you’re playing with fire here. Aren’t you afraid it will burn you?”
“In other places, perhaps I’d be cautious. But, unfortunately for them, this is happening in Yangcheng. Do you think I’m known as the top young master of Yangcheng for nothing?”
Xiao Feiyu fell silent, his mind racing. Ma Junjie’s intentions were becoming clear: he wasn’t yet over Li Ziyu’s mobile venture. All he needed to do was control her father and grandfather to get a slice of the pie.
But what would Xiao Feiyu gain from this? What did Ma Junjie expect from him? Xiao Feiyu didn’t have time to ponder further. With Ma Junjie right there, his intentions would surely be revealed soon.
Regaining his composure, Xiao Feiyu spoke again, “Ma Junjie, you’re not thinking that just Li Ziyu’s father and grandfather are enough to handle Su Lin, are you?”
Ma Junjie chuckled, “That’s where you come in. I hear the Ghost Doctor is working for you now?”
Xiao Feiyu corrected him without changing his expression, “Wang Yannian is not working for me; we are partners. Our current relationship is purely collaborative.”
“Partnership? It looks like you have something he wants. Someone of his caliber wouldn’t be interested in trivial things.”
At that moment, Ma Junjie finally looked at Xiao Feiyu in a new light, perhaps reconsidering his earlier impression. Who knew if he’s lovestruck persona was just an act? If so, then Xiao Feiyu might have even bigger plans.
Ma Junjie suddenly felt a chill, realizing his brashness in seeking collaboration might have been premature.
“Ma Junjie, let’s cut the trivial talk and get down to how we can work together,” Xiao finally said, bringing the conversation back to business.
Ma Junjie gathered his thoughts and replied, “My plan is simple. I want collaboration, you want Su Lin dead. I can use Li Tiancheng and Li Weifeng to pressure Li Ziyu. Su Lin won’t just stand by when that happens you can take care of him then…”
Xiao Feiyu snorted at the suggestion, “You take the benefits, and I get left holding the bag in a showdown with Su Lin? You make it sound so simple.”
Ma Junjie shook his head, smiling, “Of course not, your interests wouldn’t be overlooked.”
“I’ve heard you’re paying top dollar for medicinal herbs that aid cultivation, apparently due to some difficulties you’re experiencing. It’s no secret that Yangcheng, and by extension, our Greater Bay Area, which includes connections to Harbour City, has abundant resources in this regard.”
Xiao Feiyu nodded, then said flatly, “Not enough.”
“That’s just one part of the deal. Securing the mobile project could mean sharing the market with the Xiao family.”
“And if Su Lin is taken out of the picture, you think we can still secure that project?”
“We can,” Ma Junjie declared confidently.
“On what basis?” Xiao inquired curiously.
“Simple. The contract is no longer in the Xiao family’s hands; it’s with Li Ziyu. You get my drift?”
Xiao Feiyu nodded, “But Li Ziyu isn’t one to be easily threatened. You must be aware of how she seized power.”
“I’ve done my homework. The Li family is ultimately a family business. If Li Ziyu ignores us, we can create a situation she can’t ignore. While she’s ousted many of Li Weifeng’s people, many remain untouched. These people still harbor some loyalty to the old boss. To quell any dissent, Li Ziyu will have to step in.”
Xiao Feiyu sighed, “Everyone says you only cares about cars and women. I didn’t expect such a meticulous plan.”
Ma Junjie replied nonchalantly, “Being born into this kind of family, if I were truly a wastrel, that would be the real tragedy. Isn’t it the same for you, Xiao Feiyu?”
Startled, Xiao then reflected that his own intellect and the rumors about him didn’t really align.
“Still not enough,” he said, looking at Ma Junjie.
The more comprehensive Ma Junjie’s plan, the more it showed how crucial this was to him. Therefore, he was probing Ma Junjie’s limits step by step.
Ma’s expression showed a trace of irritation, but after a moment’s pause, he added, “I can help expedite your marriage arrangements with the Liu family, though it’s still subject to fate.”
“Deal!”
What do you think?
