Chapter 1070: 1070: Simpler Than Fortune-Telling
Chapter 1070: Chapter 1070: Simpler Than Fortune-Telling
Lin Shen had no current desire to have his fortune told, but with this person inside the hall, he found himself unable to go about his business.
After slight hesitation, Lin Shen walked over and sat opposite the old Star Divine Official, asking, “How much for a divination?”
“As fate wills,” the old Star Divine Official replied, taking out a card reader and placing it in front of Lin Shen.
Lin Shen took out his card and swiped a hundred Great Void Coins through it.
Money can communicate with the divine; by directly paying a hundred Great Void Coins, apart from hoping to hear some pleasant auspices to avoid the old Star Divine Official from causing unnecessary worry with disordered words, he also wanted the Star Divine Official to hurry up and leave after the divination.
Seeing the one hundred Great Void Coins Lin Shen transferred, the old Star Divine Official showed no reaction, simply smiling and asking, “Guest, what would you like to inquire about?”
“I’ve been thinking about transferring my job recently, just help me see if this job transfer will be successful,” Lin Shen said casually, thinking to himself, “I’ve given a hundred, you should at least say a few auspicious words for that.”
Upon hearing this, the old Star Divine Official picked up a turtle shell from beside the table, extending his right hand from his sleeve with three Copper Coins between his fingers.
He placed the three Copper Coins into the turtle shell, then shook the shell a few times with both hands. When he stopped, the old Star Divine Official’s expression had become somewhat peculiar.
Lin Shen, observing the turtle shell in the old Star Divine Official’s hands, felt something was odd.
This method of divination using Copper Coins and a turtle shell was something Lin Shen had seen in his hometown; the Copper Coins should have dropped out from the mouth of the turtle shell by now.
Yet, even though the mouth of the turtle shell held by the old Star Divine Official clearly faced downwards, the Copper Coins inside failed to fall out.
Lin Shen first thought that the practices of the Star God Palace might differ from those of his hometown, but then he saw the old Star Divine Official shake the shell again, the sound of the Copper Coins tumbling and colliding inside audible, confirming they were indeed there.
When the old Star Divine Official stopped again, the mouth of the turtle shell was pointed down, but still, no Copper Coins had fallen out.
The expression on the old Star Divine Official’s face became increasingly peculiar; he could not help but lift the turtle shell to his eyes and peer inside.
“That’s right, the Copper Coins are inside and aren’t stuck; how come they aren’t falling out?” Shi Zhongqing was filled with questions that he couldn’t answer, having never encountered such an event in his lifetime.
He shook it again, trying to pour the coins out, but no matter what, they wouldn’t come out, as if the three Copper Coins were glued to the turtle shell.
Shi Zhongqing set down the turtle shell and reached inside; extracting the three Copper Coins was effortless, finding them neither stuck nor adhered to anything.
“What’s wrong?” Lin Shen realized something was off and inquired of Shi Zhongqing.
“Please wait a moment.” Shi Zhongqing gave Lin Shen a deep look and once more placed the Copper Coins into the turtle shell, shaking it several times. When he tried to pour them out again, he found they still wouldn’t come out.
After several attempts, no matter how Shi Zhongqing shook it, the Copper Coins inside wouldn’t fall out, yet he could easily remove them with his hand.
Putting down the turtle shell, Shi Zhongqing regarded Lin Shen intently, and asked, “Guest, may I have your esteemed surname?”
“Tian,” Lin Shen immediately announced his name.
“If the guest wishes to remain anonymous, that is alright. I just want to know your true surname,” Shi Zhongqing shook his head, looking at Lin Shen and asked again, “Is your surname Zhang, by any chance?”
Lin Shen shook his head and replied, “I’m not surnamed Zhang, nor do I have any relation to the name.”
“That’s strange then.” Shi Zhongqing scrutinized Lin Shen with some disbelief, yet with his experience, he could tell that Lin Shen was not lying.
“Why would it be strange if my last name wasn’t Zhang?” Lin Shen curiously asked.
Shi Zhongqing did not answer Lin Shen’s question, pondering before saying: “I cannot divine this divination, but since the money has been taken, there’s absolutely no reason to return it, otherwise it would be terribly unlucky. How about this, aren’t you looking to transfer jobs? Let me help you with that.”
Lin Shen found it somewhat amusing to hear this. A fortune teller who couldn’t even divine properly was offering to help him with job transfer; how could this sound reliable?
Sharp and seasoned, Shi Zhongqing immediately saw through Lin Shen’s distrust and said with a smile, “You are a Star Divine Official, right? Which department do you want to transfer to? I’ve spent many years in the Star Divine Palace and have some connections.”
“I am a Star Divine Official from the southern Star Region.” Lin Shen did not spell it out, but his implication was clear enough.
“You want to transfer from the Everlasting Star Divine Palace to the Central Heaven Star Divine Palace?” Shi Zhongqing was slightly surprised but showed no sign of shock.
“Correct. Is that possible?” Lin Shen asked.
“Of course, it’s possible. This is much easier than divination,” Shi Zhongqing responded with a laugh. “Why do you want to transfer away from the Everlasting Star Divine Palace?”
“I’ve offended someone. I want to transfer, but they probably won’t let me go that easily,” Lin Shen said half truthfully.
“Simple. I’ve taken your money; I must make sure this gets done for you. What is the name you registered at the Star Divine Palace?” Shi Zhongqing inquired.
“Tian is my name,” Lin Shen replied.
Shi Zhongqing nodded and pulled out a device resembling a tablet computer, swiping across it as he asked, “Who have you offended?”
“The Acting Great Divine Official Wu Qing from the southern region.” Lin Shen was unsure if this old Star Divine Official was just bluffing or truly had the capability.
But there was no harm in trying; after all, he couldn’t do anything to him.
With this old Star Divine Official here, there was no chance of using the Smart Brain.
Shi Zhongqing’s fingers, which were swiping on the tablet, suddenly stopped, and he looked up at Lin Shen, saying, “No wonder you’re so eager to transfer, having offended a Great Divine Official.”
“Can this still be done?” Lin Shen asked calmly.
“Yes, I’ve taken your money, and I’ll certainly get this done.” Shi Zhongqing lowered his head and continued swiping on the tablet, leaving one to wonder what exactly he was doing.
Lin Shen was anxious but had no other choice but to wait here.
“I wonder how long Deng Kuang can hold them off. If this old Star Divine Official doesn’t leave soon, there’s really no chance of success today.” Lin Shen didn’t believe that this old Star Divine Official could transfer him from the southern region and was pondering what to do next, uncertain if Deng Kuang could bring him here again tomorrow.
While he was thinking, he glanced outside the Divine Hall and saw Deng Kuang and a Nine-Star Divine Official walking his way.
“It seems like it’s really not going to happen today,” Lin Shen sighed to himself.
After the two entered the Divine Hall and Deng Kuang saw Lin Shen, he was about to greet him, but his gaze then shifted to Shi Zhongqing behind the table.
“Great Divine Official?” Deng Kuang said with some surprise as he looked at Shi Zhongqing.
The accompanying Nine-Star Divine Official also paid his respects to Shi Zhongqing.
Lin Shen looked at Shi Zhongqing with a hint of astonishment, as he had not expected this old Star Divine Official to be Shi Zhongqing, the Great Divine Official from the Central Heaven Star Region.
What do you think?
