Suddenly, I Became a Slime

Chapter 138

Crunch.

Hwangbo Yul chewed on a Calorie Mate while staring intently at the jelly girl. Despite the dry, tangy, and savory taste flooding her mouth, observing the jelly girl was far more important to her.

After all, she wasn’t eating for enjoyment—just to replenish calories.

Hwangbo Yul’s gaze fell on the jelly girl, who was inserting a Calorie Mate into her body as if performing hara-kiri. Her dissatisfied expression suggested she didn’t like the taste.

An unconventional way to consume food.

Watching the jelly girl’s unusual behavior, Hwangbo Yul reflected on her reactions during their journey.

More precisely, it wasn’t the jelly girl’s outward responses but the vibrations emanating from the carrier.

Whenever they passed something intriguing, the carrier would tremble slightly, as if the jelly girl were squirming inside. The sound of rolling wheels masked it from others, but Hwangbo Yul felt it distinctly. The vibrations against her hand suggested a sense of… joy?

It reminded her of the excitement she’d felt shopping with her niece.

Perhaps that’s why she recognized the trembling as happiness.

This realization brought a bitter taste to her mouth—not from the cheese-flavored Calorie Mate but from what it represented.

The jelly girl and her niece shared similar emotions. What was she supposed to make of that?

Hwangbo Yul was confused.

Watching the jelly girl insert food into her body confirmed she was a singularity. But recalling the carrier’s vibrations made her question if that was the whole story.

The way the jelly girl retrieved identification tags from the swamp. The care with which she laid bodies to rest….

These weren’t actions that could be performed without understanding their significance.

Hwangbo Yul remembered other singularities similar to the jelly girl. Initially, they seemed to aid humanity but always concealed ulterior motives.

They pretended to cooperate, but their true intentions invariably led to grim outcomes.

Records of such singularities were written in blood, recounting tragedies.

This made it difficult for Hwangbo Yul to accept the jelly girl’s actions.

But neither could she ignore what she saw, so she evaluated the jelly girl’s behavior at every turn—even following her this far to observe.

The jelly girl’s daily life… no, her routine, had been surprising.

Seeing her work with others to manage separated jellies was impressive.

Despite the countless jellies under perfect control, there was an underlying tension about what might happen if they attacked. Yet, such an incident never occurred.

And the jelly girl, presumed to be in charge…spent her days watching TV. She would poke at smaller jellies or play with moving toys.

When a small whale-shaped jelly bumped into her, she’d swat it away in annoyance yet still engage with it like an older sibling playing with a younger one.

Recently, she seemed to enjoy soaking in the bathtub.

She wasn’t particularly fond of wearing clothes.

When Hwangbo Yul heard that the jelly girl had requested a TV as a reward for dealing with the swamp, she was genuinely taken aback.

Singularities Hwangbo Yul had read about would have demanded outrageous compensation. For the jelly girl to settle for a TV… it was baffling.

As she grappled with these conflicting feelings…

Thump.

The jelly girl, having absorbed the Calorie Mate, leapt onto the bed.

The lightweight jelly girl bounced briefly before flopping down on her stomach.

‘Lying like that will hurt her…’

Hwangbo Yul started to think but then stopped herself.

‘How could she hurt her back? She doesn’t even have bones.’

Reflecting on this, Hwangbo Yul reluctantly acknowledged that she viewed the jelly girl differently from other singularities.

Believing the jelly girl wouldn’t notice, she sighed softly, wiped herself down, and left the room.

Turning off the lights, she glanced around before climbing onto the bed.

Having chosen a single room, there was only one bed.

Moving stealthily, Hwangbo Yul turned toward the jelly girl, who seemed to be sleeping, and gently prodded her.

The jelly girl’s body squished under her touch, cool to the touch and soothing against her freshly washed hands.

Before she realized it, Hwangbo Yul was poking the jelly girl repeatedly, entranced by the sensation. When she snapped out of it, she quickly pulled her hand back.

‘What am I doing?’

Even if she acknowledged the jelly girl was different, she remained cautious. Resolving to keep watch, Hwangbo Yul lay beside the jelly girl and fell asleep, exhausted from the journey.

How much time had passed?

The supposedly sleeping jelly girl quietly sat up, her expression awkward as she looked at Hwangbo Yul.

Fiddling with the tendril on her head, the jelly girl seemed uneasy about sharing the bed. As she moved to get off, Hwangbo Yul stirred.

Caught in the act, the jelly girl froze.

Hwangbo Yul’s strong arm wrapped around the jelly girl, pulling her into a tight embrace. Caught off guard, the jelly girl ended up as a makeshift body pillow.

Resigned, the jelly girl let out a bubbling sound and relaxed her body, pretending to sleep as her jelly gently bubbled in a steady rhythm.

The room grew silent.

“Why am I holding you?”

This was Hwangbo Yul’s first question upon waking.

‘Why is she looking at me like I’m the one to blame?’

If it had been Kim Cheonsu hugging her jelly, she’d have thrown him off the bed. But since it was a beautiful woman, she let it slide. She couldn’t possibly kick a woman out onto the floor.

‘Not that I enjoyed it or anything…’

After pushing aside such thoughts, Hwangbo Yul got up and began preparing for their outing.

She freshened up and packed her things. Meanwhile, the jelly girl, having nothing else to do, climbed into her carrier.

Hwangbo Yul and the jelly girl embarked on their journey once more.

The destination remained a mystery to the jelly girl, who could only guess it wasn’t another swamp but something still connected to the concrete jungle.

Surprisingly, their destination was indeed within the city—a concrete building apart from the main urban sprawl.

‘How could such dangerous things exist so close?’

The jelly girl wondered why she hadn’t noticed them before. It made her question if becoming what she was now had been part of some grand scheme.

‘Back when I was human, I never would have come across something like this…’

Arriving at the building, they passed through what looked like a standard reception area. After Hwangbo Yul muttered something to the receptionist, they were guided to a secure room.

Following tedious security procedures, they finally entered a familiar-looking white space.

‘What’s with the obsession with white?’

Though the uniform aesthetic was a bit dull, the jelly girl’s curiosity was piqued.

After walking for some time, they stopped at a door covered in warnings like “No Entry.” The heavy locks made it clear that access was restricted.

As Hwangbo Yul approached, the sound of nearby doors opening and security personnel rushing toward them heightened the jelly girl’s anticipation.

‘Why does this make my jelly bubble with excitement?’
