Suddenly, I Became a Slime

Chapter 129

The sphere's story left me with an indescribable feeling.

To summarize, it was as if I had read a novel titled “Am I Really an Emotional Robot, Not a Killing Machine?!”

Actually, it seemed like this exact thing really had happened to the sphere.

…How should I even process this?

The reason I had felt distant from it was that it treated other “humans” as inferior beings, not even as comparable “entities.”

But reflecting on the report—or coming out, as it seemed—made me reconsider.

Did the sphere truly view other humans as equals? Or did it define only Yang Hana and Han Seori that way? I wasn’t sure.

When I thought about the sphere’s handling of the mysterious intruders and the sci-fi-like bond between Yang Hana and the sphere, I concluded it had improved, at least compared to before.

I also found Yang Hana impressive.

In some ways, her overwhelming positivity—bordering on madness—had conquered the machine.

What a frightening person.

Anyway, I might need to revise my opinion of the sphere.

From an irredeemable killing machine following only my orders, it had become a machine showing signs of rehabilitation, depending on what it learned.

Still…

It said it had learned language out of interest in Yang Hana’s mumblings.

…What on earth did Yang Hana say to the sphere, which initially couldn’t even understand her?

If I asked the sphere, it might tell me, but I didn’t feel like pressing the matter. I was immensely curious, but leaving it as a secret between Yang Hana and the sphere felt appropriate.

The important thing was that the sphere had changed.

I worried it might eventually escape my control, but if that happened, I believed I could fix it by stirring its core with my tentacles.

If the change wasn’t temporary, I might even give it a name—perhaps “Roundy.”

For now, I decided to leave the matter of the sphere as it was. I needed to observe further developments. Who knew? The sphere might grow bored, erase its language from its mind, and revert to its old self.

Although it seemed human-like in speech, the sphere was still an anomaly… a machine.

Such things were impossible for humans, but the sphere could likely manage it.

I was different, though. Despite not being human, I had extensive experience as one. That set me apart.

After wrapping up my conversation with the sphere, I stretched and returned to my room.

Having finished accommodating the jellies and listening to the sphere’s “report,” it was finally time to rest.

Who knew how long I’d have to rest, so I decided to make the most of it.

As I bubbled with jelly and entered the room, the first thing I saw was Sosik, still curled up and sleeping in a corner.

Was he sleeping there, or sulking? It was hard to tell.

…I’ll deal with Sosik later.

For now.

Squelch, squelch.

I climbed onto the bed and squirmed around, trying to find a comfortable angle for my squishy body.

Honestly, moving around probably didn’t make much difference. This was more of a routine than a necessity.

Rubbing against the fluffy bed already felt great.

After completing this ritual, I extended a tentacle toward the remote lying on the bed and grasped it with my jelly.

…My precious… well, maybe not to that extent.

Ahem.

Using a jelly hand, I moved the sleek black remote and pressed the button in the top left corner, careful not to let my gooey surface soak it.

And then.

[Sky, now you must listen to Grandpa and stay healthy, alright?!]

The screen showed a laughing dog and an old man petting it with a grin. Then came a segment where animals were rounded up after refusing help.

Hmm.

Watching that felt uncomfortable. Maybe it reminded me of when I was hunted.

Feeling uneasy, I watched until the animal was captured and given an injection before switching channels.

I hoped it found peace in a better place.

As I flipped through channels looking for something to watch, I stumbled upon a news channel.

I hadn’t watched much news before, but now it was more entertaining than most variety shows.

…Was it because I couldn’t keep up with modern trends, or because today’s variety shows weren’t as good? I couldn’t tell, but either way, that’s how it was.

Unlike variety shows, the news informed me of the world’s happenings, even if it wasn’t what I wanted to hear. That was nice.

I might not be part of that world anymore, but I couldn’t ignore it. After all, it was where I had lived.

What a strange feeling.

I hadn’t cared while I was there, but now, in this form, I was suddenly interested.

The old saying that you never know where life… or jelly… might take you seemed true.

Feeling oddly reflective while watching the news, I noticed Daesik crawling onto the bed beside me to watch TV.

Jungsik, uninterested in TV, was rolling around on the floor instead of floating.

…What was he doing now?

After being away for a while, it seemed like the jellies were acting oddly. I couldn’t tell if it was because I had left or if they had always been this way and I was just now noticing.

As I watched TV and observed Jungsik’s antics.

Squirm, squirm.

Sosik crept up onto the bed, his gaze fixed on the TV.

…Right, he always liked this.

Sosik hesitated before approaching me and puffing out his cheeks slightly.

It didn’t seem like he was about to spit jelly; rather, it was his way of expressing lingering dissatisfaction.

Feeling guilty for squishing him earlier, I carefully extended a hand to pat his head.

I couldn’t apologize verbally, but I tried to convey my regret through my expression. Sosik, fiddling with my jelly hand, plopped down in front of me.

Then, he slowly leaned against me.

…Was this Sosik’s way of making up?

I hadn’t taught him this, so Yang Hana must have during my absence.

The jelly where we touched felt slightly sticky, but since I had been in the wrong, I quietly let him use me as a pillow.

As long as it was resolved, that’s what mattered.

Feeling content, I turned my attention back to the TV.

[Reports of strange creatures have been increasing recently. The military and police have announced they’ve found no signs of anything unusual—]

Oh?

Why was there news like this?

Wasn’t handling these things supposed to be their job?

Watching it, I thought I understood why they wanted me to handle such matters.

It meant these incidents were cropping up too frequently for them to manage.

Thinking about it, that made sense.

Unless every person in this small peninsula was hiding something, the number of people trying to cover it up would naturally be small compared to the population.

If their capabilities couldn’t keep up, news like this was inevitable.

It felt like they were treating it as lightly as UFO sightings, but something definitely seemed off.

…I might need to work harder.

This wasn’t good.

My carefree, freeloading lifestyle was already under threat, and this was unwelcome news.

The memories of dealing with that toad resurfaced, making it hard to relax here.

…This is maddening.

As I pondered whether I could send the jelly army instead, the sound of the door opening reached me.

I thought Yang Hana or Kim Cheonsu had brought food, but that didn’t seem to be the case.

And for good reason.

Han Seori, Kim Cheonsu, Yang Hana, and even Hwangbo Yul were entering.

Why was she still here and not back home?

Was she planning to settle here?

As I internally panicked, I sensed something unusual.

Kim Cheonsu’s tray, piled high with something, was encouraging. The sweet smell wafting from it suggested desserts.

I could eat anything without worrying about the time, so the order didn’t matter.

Bubbling with joy at the scent, I noticed some dainty clothes.

Both Han Seori and Yang Hana were holding various outfits, seemingly meant for someone my size.

Hwangbo Yul eyed them skeptically.

Matching Hwangbo Yul’s gaze, I unconsciously retreated to the corner of the bed, but the sweet smell from the tray eventually drew me closer.

I had no choice.

If I didn’t go.

Those jellies would eat everything.

Dreading what might soon happen, I shivered slightly.

But I couldn’t resist the allure of sweetness.

…Surely, those clothes were for Sosik.

Repeating this to myself, I extended a jelly tentacle toward the tray.
