Chapter 84 84: Divine Essence
Azrael was just thankful that she hadn't grabbed his right hand.
Azrael's right hand was already throbbing with rot, and if she twisted it in that grip, then he was sure that he might pass out from how painful it would have been.
Azrael raised his uniform sleeve a little to take a look at the skin beneath and he frowned when he saw his wrist was already turning red. The skin under his gloves had already rotted, and it was starting to spread up his arm.
Azrael turned to his system.

Azrael needed to finish this mission quickly.
"Alright, killers, now that we're done with the attendance, let's get into more important things."
Scar finally finished the attendance and morning announcement, and he dropped his tablet to the side while leaning back against the table.
The ever-present novel was still in Scar's hand, and he waved it around nonchalantly while speaking to the students.
"Last week we spoke about the Null Zone, what it was, and how people navigate through it. Today, we're going to get a lot more personal, and we will be talking about the mysterious power known as Divine Essence. Divine Essence is something that no one has been able to completely understand even after more than a hundred years of it being used by demigods.
"Many believed Divine Essence to have the same core principles as the mana you would find in many fictional stories, and although it is not very far-fetched, it is also not the complete truth. Divine Essence is, in principle, the mark of Divinity. Every divine being, both in the mortal plane and in the Null Zone, possesses Divine Essence to a certain degree, and they can use it in powering their God Aspect—amongst other things."
Scar began to walk up the stairs with his hands behind his back as he continued talking.
"But how exactly did Divine Essence come to be? No one knows. Some say that it was a gift from the gods. Others say it was a curse that created the Daemons. All we do know is that there is no source of power in the known world more powerful than Divine Essence—yes, Miss Jane?"
Scar raised a brow when he saw Jane Ashton raising her hand from the front of the class. Jane stood and asked.
"Sir, you said—"
"Again with the sir?"
"S-Sorry. Uhm, Mr. Scar, you said that Divine Essence can be used to power other things besides the God Aspect. By this, do you mean the Authorities?"
Scar gained a shocked look on his face once Jane mentioned Authorities.
There had been no mention of Authorities to the students right from when they were in middle school, and the school authorities all agreed that the students weren't going to be told about authorities until they got to their second year.
It was too much for the students to be thinking about something so farfetched when they were still trying to get used to the God Aspects.
Scar had to ask.
"How do you know about that?"
Jane gained a small look of pride as she answered.
"I was told about it by my mentor, sir."
Scar sighed.
This was the reason why he didn't approve of the students learning both from school and from the pantheons.
Jane was the poster child of the Zeus pantheon, and they had poured a lot of money into her education and development, so they were obviously going to give her information that she was not supposed to know about until much later.
They were spoiling her growth.
Scar told Jane to sit down before he spoke.
"Yes, one of the things that can be powered with your Divine Essence is your authority. But I would advise against trying to attain an Authority now. Not only will many of you be disappointed by what you discover down that road, but it will also lead you to neglect and abuse your God Aspect to the point where you will be incapable of using either one properly. You'll learn more about Divine Authorities when you get to your second year. Is that understood?"
Scar looked at Jane when he said this, and Jane nodded at the serious look on Scar's face.
Scar then continued what he had been talking about initially.
"If you take a look at your screen, you'll see the list of known daemons according to information gotten from the Divine Enforcers website and how much Divine Essence can be gotten from each one. The Daemons have all been known to give a set amount of Essence based on their ranking, and this has led us to understand that not only Demigods, but Daemons can also improve the amount of Divine Essence in their core and rank up to a higher Daemon ranking.
"As of now, the strongest known daemon to ever cross the veil and arrive in the mortal plane is the Titan from fifty years ago. It took the combined effort of James Rickard—the strongest Demigod—along with our very own headmaster, Sozin, to handle it. I'm sure you're all aware of the patch of land known as Revenant's Graveyard. Well, it had once been a thriving city of millions until the Titan battle occurred there, killing everyone in the area without a single survivor. It is the single greatest tragedy to have ever occurred in the mortal plane, and it was that battle that led to the creation of what is now the Divine Academy to teach young demigods how to be better killers."
The class was silent as they all listened attentively to Scar. They all tried to imagine the scale of battle that would have occurred between the Titan and the strongest demigods, and none of them were able to properly gauge just how powerful that monster would have been.
The demigods had all heard of the 'Revenant's Graveyard'. It was a large expanse of land that covered kilometers with nothing but ash and darkness. The soil was so charred that nothing could grow there anymore, and there was constant smoke and fog covering the region.
The thought that it had once been a city filled with millions terrified them all.
Just how powerful was this Titan?
Scar hoisted himself up to the table and sat at the edge before he continued his lecture.
"Now, killers, let's take a look at the Divine Core and how Divine Essence aids in its growth."
On the screen projected in front of the class, a glowing blue sphere appeared against a black background. The sphere was rotating slowly, and in the sphere, there was some sort of liquid that was gently swaying like an ocean.
The same image appeared on the screen in front of each student's table, and Scar pointed his notebook to the picture.
"This is an F Rank Divine Core. It's small, it's weak. It's what you all possess right now—or at least, most of you."
Scar turned to glance at Jane, and Jane tried her best to avoid Scar's eyes as she continued looking at the core.
Scar continued.
"The Divine Core is a container for the Divine Essence located somewhere close to the heart, right in the center of the chest. I'm sure all of you have felt it in one way or another. You probably experienced some of the Divine Essence being drained away when you were reading your Divine Potential.
"When a Divine Core is formed, it possesses the bare minimum amount of Divine Essence that marks you as a Demigod. And how much Divine Essence is that...?"
"15 units of Divine Essence!!!"
The class answered as one, and Scar nodded.
"Yes, you are all born with exactly 15 units of Divine Essence in your core."
What do you think?
