Chapter 179: Rat beasts mission again!
City A:
A few days later,
Near the city wall, many underground sewers were infested with rat beasts. The local residents made a formal complaint. If a Tier-1 rat beast appeared, they would clear it out themselves.
But in recent days, the reports have increased. Even the authorities were confused. They have been sending teams to clear out the rat beasts from time to time.
Yet the reports have surged. It shows that they have not done enough cleaning, which has led to a sudden increase in the number of rat beasts.
The officials working in the city administration quickly posted a new task. The task was given to all the major forces, including the Beast Taming Association, Central University 14, and the important families.
These forces didn't take it seriously. They treated it as a simple mission. Any average Tier-1 or Tier-2 beast tamer could handle the rat beasts.
They ignored the plight of the locals and disregarded the mission request.
...
Central University 14:
The effect of May Lindsey's defeat is starting to recede. Everyone is returning to their lives. People had expected some reaction from the seniors and the beast-taming families.
But nothing like that has happened. Surprisingly, everything is going fine. No one speaks about the challenge duel anymore.
Victor Scott has forgotten about this matter. He didn't even mention it, let alone the control department students. They learned a lesson from the Elemental Department.
They are not going to lose face purposely.
Meanwhile,
Jeremy was in his class with Daniel Stone and Betsy Lowe. He has been talking about taking them to do missions. Last time, the rat beasts hunt mission went well.
This time, Jeremy wanted to find a similar kind of safe mission. Daniel and Betsy agreed to do the mission together.
They witnessed Jeremy's strength a few days ago. They are not worried about their safety at all.
Then they left the department building and were about to go toward the Mission Hall Building. Jeremy received a call from the First Year Department Head, Derek.
Jeremy was surprised by the old man's call. He couldn't help but recall the promise he made. If the old man gives him a difficult mission, then he can't drag these two with him.
"Elder, is this about a mission?" Jeremy asked.
"Good, I have been looking for a good mission these days. But now I have one. This mission is your favorite one; you have done it before," old man Derek replied on the call.
"Previously done mission!" Jeremy was taken aback.
He didn't know what he was being mentioned about.
"Kid, it's the rat beasts hunt mission. The city administration has received a lot of calls these days. The locals are troubled by this small plague."
"Many Tier-1 rat beasts are popping up from these sewers. The City Administration has transferred the mission to all the major forces."
"I suspect there are Tier-3 rat beasts behind it. Otherwise, this many rat beasts wouldn't appear in such a short time."
Old man Derek explained it on the call.
Daniel and Betsy were standing beside silently.
Jeremy was wondering about the mission. He didn't expect to encounter the same mission again. This will save him time looking for the mission in the mission building.
"Okay, elder. I'll do the mission. But I'm going to take Daniel and Betsy with me," Jeremy said.
"Okay, I'll send you the mission details to your account. You guys can leave right away," Derek replied.
"Okay," Jeremy said before ending the call.
He then turned around and looked at Daniel and Betsy Lowe.
"I received a mission from the Department Head. We are going to do the rat beasts hunt mission," Jeremy said to them.
"Rat beasts!"
"Didn't we solve it before?" Daniel Stone asked.
Betsy Lowe was quick-witted. She understood something.
She said, "We only checked 2 underground sewers last time. There must be other places as well."
"Yes, there are other places," Jeremy added.
A look of understanding dawned on Daniel's face.
"Brother, last time we went blindly. We should buy some safety items," Daniel said.
"We can buy them along the way. Let's go now," Jeremy said.
Then the trio left the campus.
Shortly afterward,
When they appeared outside on the street, Jeremy had already received the mission details from Head Derek. He started to read the information while waiting for the cab.
As he went through the information, Jeremy couldn't help but feel shocked inside. The rat beasts infestation was a serious problem. The city administration neglected it in the name of a training program.
Now the locals are suffering because of their ignorance. He had even felt something wrong last time. It was their first mission as a group, so he didn't take it seriously.
Right now, he decided to see it through to the end. If it was left alone, it could cause a serious disaster inside the city.
Five minutes later,
A flying car arrived and landed in front of them. The three of them entered inside and sat down.
Jeremy told the driver to drop them at the nearest store.
Swoosh!
The flying car rose up and started flying toward the destination.
Jeremy then shared the mission details with the others. The faces of the two of them changed as they read the information.
"Damn!"
"This is a serious problem affecting the locals," Daniel gritted his teeth.
"Looks like the authorities have underestimated the rat beasts. They can easily multiply. If they don't clear them out from time to time, their numbers could cause problems," Betsy said.
The driver, who was driving, heard their conversation. His expression changed drastically because his residential area was facing this problem as well.
They were among the group of people who filed a complaint to the city administration.
"Students, are you going to solve the rat beasts problem?" the driver asked without turning back.
Hearing that, Jeremy's eyes flickered.
"Yes, mister. Is there something you wanted to share with us?" Jeremy asked.
"Yes, young man. The residents on our street are facing a rat beasts problem. We have killed more than 20 Tier-1 beasts so far, but we couldn't find the source of the problem."
"They are appearing out of nowhere," the driver said.
"Brother, we need to buy some equipment as well," Daniel said.
"Yes," Jeremy replied.
"Why don't we start our mission from his street?" Betsy said.
"It's a good idea. Let's buy some gadgets first," Jeremy replied.
"Then it's settled," Betsy said with a smile.
The driver was even happier. They had approached the city administration earlier, but there was no response from them.
Fortunately, these youngsters from Central University are going to help. The driver felt a sense of relief.
Shortly afterward,
They came to the store under the Beast Taming Association. Jeremy and others stepped out and asked the driver to wait.
Daniel Stone booked his cab again.
Then the trio went inside the shop. Jeremy was thinking about the toad poison. It was an effective solution to kill powerful beasts.
He still had some poison left, so he decided to buy some items to cover their odor so that the beasts couldn't smell them.
Daniel and Betsy quickly went to buy their own things. They had done the previous mission together. Each knew about their own shortcomings.
Jeremy looked at them before walking toward the counter.
A female staff member saw him and asked with a smile.
"Customer, what do you want?"
"Is there any item to dispel human odor?" Jeremy asked.
"Yes. We have an odor scent made by ATXZ Company. The scent contains the smell of vegetation. Once you use it on your body, no beast will find you," she explained with a professional smile on her face.
Jeremy frowned. If it were the wilderness, he could use this scent. But they are going to investigate the underground sewers. The plants and trees smell inside the sewer is not a logical one.
So he asked, "Is there any different odor?"
The female staff member was stunned. The ATXZ scent was one of their popular products. She had hoped to make a commission by selling it. Alas! The customer needed a different product.
"Can you clarify?" she asked.
Jeremy sighed inwardly. He then looked at her and said, "We are going to investigate underground sewers. We don't want the beasts living down there to smell us."
The female staff member widened her eyes. She quickly realized why the customer rejected the top product.
"Customer, wait for me here. I have one product in mind. It's suitable for you," After saying that, she went to retrieve the product.
Jeremy smiled helplessly. These items may seem unnecessary, but he knows these items have their own advantages.
If he could get more time to investigate because of this product, then he was ready to buy it. The last thing he wanted was for the three of them to get besieged by the rat beasts.
It happened before. He didn't want that to happen this time, so these precautionary measures were necessary.
He then saw Daniel and Betsy had already selected their items.
What do you think?
