Chapter 736: Chapter 736: The Story of Red Butterfly

Beyond the door was a massive room, not only in area—it was larger than the entire floor of the Shard Family home—but also in height, being three times that of a normal room.

It was evident that Granny Cassandra had taken great care in maintaining the room; antiques, oil paintings, furniture, and even the music box and crystal ball ornaments on the table all appeared to be of considerable value.

The room overall presented an antique bronze hue because the surrounding walls and the ceiling above were inscribed with copper powder, forming vine-like runes that seemed to spread out. Upon closer inspection, these were runes from various sealing ceremonies of different eras, pieced together to form the seal of this room.

If not for the soft red wool carpet covering the floor, Shard believed he would have seen similar runes there as well.

To the left of the room’s entrance was a fireplace, with crossed swords hanging above it. The roaring flames within the fireplace provided light to this dim room. It was unclear what kind of firewood Granny Cassandra used, or if perhaps a hidden incense burner was lit in some unseen corner, as the air was filled with a fragrant aroma.

Apart from the fireplace, there were no other sources of light in the room, which is why it was somewhat gloomy. After entering, the first thing Shard noticed were the white and black gowns discarded on the carpet. Looking ahead, the largest object in the room was the four-poster bed at its center.

The bed was made of mahogany, so large that it looked like it could comfortably fit thirty people. Its posts reached the ceiling, casting shadows that swayed on the walls with the flickering firelight. Three layers of curtain hung around, consisting of white gauze, pink gauze, and the innermost layer of black gauze.

The barrier of the curtains and the dimness of the room made it difficult for Shard to see his sisters Grace and Helen. He could only make out the silhouettes of two girls sitting on the bed, snuggled together, but could not discern their specific features or clothing.

One leaned her head on the other’s shoulder, while the other wrapped an arm around the former’s back, holding her in a half-embrace. Perhaps since their reunion in the Interstice yesterday, they had not been apart.

Yet, these two figures didn’t quite seem human.

Not in terms of appearance, but in terms of their height. Though they were seated on the bed inside the curtains, just the height of their upper bodies sitting up showed they were definitely no shorter than three meters. They looked like giants magnified in size, but the silhouette of these giants was so aesthetically pleasing, reminiscent of the so-called “divine humans” depicted in religious paintings.

The change in stature was likely an effect of the transient abnormal state following the Red Butterfly Twins’ encounter.
