Chapter 162 - 162: The Invasion

[3rd POV]

"Shou-Should we do something to help?" Jean asked, gasping as she watched the news headline.

Gwen on the other hand, was using her sight to watch from afar, a hum escaping her lips. Thoughts echoing through her head, important thoughts.

'Looks like this is one of those MCU influences I was expecting. An invasion of New York, but it seems the Avengers are already a team, but are only in their infancy, this will catapult them, and looks like it'll make them jump to the levels of their comic counterpart quickly' Gwen thought with interest, as she gazed into the past, and found that they had originally been brought together to fight HYDRA in the past.

Gwen stopped when she caught sight of something, no, someone else. 'That-' Gwen stopped her thoughts, as she saw the appearance of the Trickster God himself, Loki. But it wasn't him that really got her attention, but the appearance of a Scepter that glowed in his hands, one that she recognized clearly.

'...The Mind Stone' Gwen thought, as she struggled not to cackle in excitement at the sight of the last stone she needed to have all 6 together. And if what she could see was right, then it was more in line with its comic counterpart, if controlling the minds of New Yorkers was any indicator.

By gaining the last stone, she could then sever it's bond from this universe, binding it to herself, and officially gaining all six infinity stones, which would not only give her a lot of power, massively increased psychic power, but it would also mesh with the rest of the stones, boosting them as well. That, and she would likely gain a ton of tickets as well.

'Grabbing that thing will be the hard part, with SHIELD naturally going to be clambering to get their hands on it. But...I suppose my "Shadow" can just take it, can't it? Afterall, that's not me' Gwen thought with a small inward grin, happy with this, as it would finally get her the last of the six infinity stones.

'If he's here with that thing, then that means that the Mad Titan will be appearing sooner or later. Which is...a little concerning considering this world is based more around it's comic counterparts, but I believe It'll be fine, so long as he doesn't get any of the more...dangerous infinity stones' Gwen thought, knowing the only infinity stone that was a genuine threat to her, was the Soul Stone, and even that wouldn't work too well, considering she herself, had the stone within her, guarding her very soul.

'The Avengers won't be a problem, considering they're only made up of the recently returned Captain, Black Widow, Tony, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, and the Hulk. Thor will probably make his appearance soon thought' Gwen thought, with only the Hulk being a problem in that group, but with her powers, that "Problem" was minimal to her.

'Doesn't look like the Space Stone is involved this time which is too bad, but the Mind Stone is more than enough for me for now' Gwen thought, watching the video for a few more moments before getting to her feet and walking off.

She could see that Spiderman, Daredevil, and several other street level heroes were on the move, ready to save the New Yorkers caught in the crossfire, while SHIELD was deploying the Avengers, for their first public appearance in a while. Besides the fight with HYDRA, and some other minor villains of note, they hadn't done much for the world, not yet.

"Are you going to go and help them?" Jean's voice echoed behind her, as Gwen turned, before smiling.

"I am, why?" Gwen asked, only to blink as more people rounded the corners.

"We believe it best that we aid the innocents, and...it is time that we stop hiding so much" Xavier said, as he smiled, Gwen looking between them all before letting out a chuckle.

"Well alright then, I guess now is a good time to give you all these, isn't it?" Gwen said, as a glow formed around them, suits forming on their bodies.

"These are..." "New and improved suits, made of pure vibranium and a rather special set of...molecules of sorts, that I have developed. They're indestructible, and made specially for each of you based off of your powers" Gwen said, gazing at Storm, Beast, Wolverine, Xavier, Jean, Cyclops, and the newest addition to the team, Iceman, who had gained enough control to officially join the team.

Beast's eyes widened in shock "Vi-Vibranium?! Where in the world did you get such a thing?! A singular gram of the metal is worth over 10 thousand dollars! That would mean these suits in total are worth hundreds of millions, if not billions!"

At this piece of information, the rest of the team's eyes shot wide. That much money was far more than anything any of them had seen before, and many times more than the budget for their team.

"Well it's a good thing I've got literal tons of it, isn't it?" Gwen replied with a smile, as Beast struggled not to let his jaw drop, as a singular ton of vibranium would be worth 9,071,840,000 dollars at least, and Gwen was talking about having "Tons" as in, several tons worth.

"Are we going to sit here with our thumbs up our asses or get goin?" Logan's voice cut in, inwardly liking his new suit. It looked the same as the old one, but it was way more durable, and not only that, but he felt some sort of strange healing sensation roll through him. This, was in fact, Gwen healing his adamantium poisoning, meaning, his healing factor would now be at its full power, and far faster than before, no longer needing to dedicate most of its "Power" to warding off the poison.

Hearing him, Xavier let out a chuckle, before turning to Gwen and giving her a nod "Let us go, and...on this mission, Gwen shall be the leader" Xavier said, as the others looked at one another, before smiling, with only Scott frowning. Seeing this, Gwen sighed, before flicking her wrist quietly, shattering the impulses that were forced upon the boy.

He blinked several times, as he felt...different, free almost, as the anger he felt towards Gwen disappeared, and the attraction/obsession with Jean with it, as realization soon began to come with it 'Wow...I've been a douche' Scott thought, wondering what was wrong with him, inwardly deciding to talk to the professor about this when he had the chance, and to apologize to both Jean and Gwen. But for now, they had more important things to do, as he followed the rest of the team, where the Blackbird was waiting for them.

Sitting in the blackbird as it flew towards New York, being only a minute away, flying far faster than before thanks to the upgrades Gwen had given it, Beast was quietly conversing with Charles.

"Professor, may I ask why you decided to make Gwen the leader on this mission?" Hank asked, as Charles looked to Gwen who gave him a small smile, as he turned to Hank.

"Because I believe she is the most fit for it. If I am to be honest, I have been thinking of making her the leader of the team as a whole, while I continue to run the school" Charles said, as Hank's eyes widened.

"I know it may sound...strange, but...I believe it may be for the best. I have been conversing with Gwen quite often, usually over a good cup of tea, and she has pointed out some of my faults. One of them being my inability to handle the school and the team at the same time, especially when it comes to dealing with other humans and how we deal with them" Charles continued, as Hank quietly listened.

"She has spoken of an idea, a great idea that will bring the Mutants of Earth to a new era, one of peace and prosperity, one where we no longer will worry about the actions of the greater world, and its corrupt politicians. One where even Erik may join us" Charles said, as Hank couldn't help but ask.

"What is the plan? Surely it cannot be so grand, she is one girl afterall, even with how incredible of a person she truly is" Hank replied, as Charles looked at Hank, before chuckling.

"I do not know, Hank, but...I believe it best we see for ourselves, and if it is as incredible as I am hoping, then you can expect me to step down from my position as leader of the X-Men, as I step fully into my roll as a professor and teacher to the next generation" Chares said, as Hank went silent, a voice soon speaking from the front, as Storm spoke.

"We're here" Storm said, as they all gazed out of the windows, their eyes widening.

"My God..." Jean gasped, holding a hand over her mouth in horror, as in the streets of New York, dozens of mutilated bodies could be seen, thousands of Chitauri soldiers marching around the city, killing anything and anyone they see, as well as humans with softly glowing eyes, controlled to kill one another by the hands of a Trickster God.

'This is worse than I was expecting' Gwen thought with narrowed eyes, not liking how one-sided this was. And as she looked far off, she scowled.

'Stupid fucking politicians!' Gwen thought, realizing that the Avengers were being stopped by the council that oversaw SHIELD, not trusting in their ability to fight off the invasion, so instead, they were planning on nuking the hell out of the city of millions. But, it seemed that the Avengers weren't having that, so they left either way.

"Looks like we'll be here alone for a little bit. The Avengers are being stopped by some...less than good politicians that are in control of SHIELD. So, for now, it'll be up to us to fight them off. Do you all think you're ready for it?" Gwen asked, as they all looked at one another, nodding. Jean breathed in deeply, as she nodded as well, with Iceman speaking up.

"I have to be, people are dying down there, innocent people. And...I can't just stand by while it's happening" Bobby said as Gwen grinned, as the doors to the Blackbird opened, and she turned back to them.

"Don't come until I give the signal!" Gwen said, as she leaped out of the building, her Spider suit forming around her as she flew downwards, as it was finally time for the Ghost Spider to make her debut in the world, and boy...was it about to be with a bang, as she landed on the ground, staring at the chitauri around her.

'God I've always wanted to say this!' Gwen thought, giddy, as she inwardly began to hear a very familiar theme, courtesy of the system, as she opened her mouth, the skies darkening above, the sounds of lasers firing, and most of all...the sound of a black bird.

"TO ME, MY X-MEN!"

Not sure if I cooked or not, but...I couldn't help it! My Inner X-Men nerd needed to hear it from Gwen! And playing it at the same time as the X-men theme? Goosebumps people, goosebumps!
