Chapter 697 - 657: The Three Great Bandits
Top-tier Earthroot indeed plays an extraordinary role for the Earth Core lineage; it pertains to the very continuity of their line.
Meg understood this deeply. Seeing the Thousand Claw Throne speak with such conviction, as if determined to obtain it, he hesitated for a moment.
The best way was to hand over the Earthroot.
He knew that this would be utterly unfair to Ivan, essentially a disaster out of nowhere. Yet, he also knew the formidable strength of the Earth Core lineage—far beyond what Ivan could afford to offend. Even Meg himself could do nothing about it.
Hence, Meg hoped Ivan would not act impulsively.
The two exchanged glances. Ivan immediately understood, signaling that he had things under control, though he said nothing.
"Human sorcerer, I’ve spoken clearly enough. Do you refuse to hand it over, or do you still deny possession?" Seeing Ivan feign ignorance, the Thousand Claw Throne directly demanded.
This time, he refrained from exerting pressure. Having tested earlier, he realized the opposing sorcerer possessed remarkable strength that rendered minor tricks ineffective.
"That was a gift from a benevolent elder as a token of their kindness upon our first meeting. How could I hand it over to others? That would be a grave disrespect toward them." Ivan, seeing no way to avoid the matter, replied succinctly.
The World Tree seed pertained to his throne’s ascension; he could not afford to relinquish it easily.
Moreover, the Sorcerer had been entrusted by the Great Will with immense expectations. If not for this, the Golden Throne of the Duomu Clan would have acted long ago before the Earth Core lineage could even interfere. Ivan resolved to gamble on it.
"A mere sorcerer like you—where would you find such an elder?" scoffed the Thousand Claw Throne upon hearing this.
"This sorcerer has his opportunities." Ivan, aware of their disbelief, did not argue further. Instead, he activated the Prophet’s Treasure Tome and the True Sight Lantern within his soul sea, revealing a radiant Light of Wisdom outwardly.
The Wisdom Divinity originally lying dormant surged dramatically, becoming strikingly dense and conspicuous.
This drew the attention of everyone present, even shocking the Thousand Claw Throne.
He possessed extraordinary perception; not only did he see the dense Wisdom Divinity, but he also discerned a profound favor of the Greater Will, far beyond expectations. Typically, such beings had a special title—Child of Luck.
Impossible!
Why would the supreme Mother of All Things take such deep interest in this human sorcerer?
The Thousand Claw Throne was baffled, yet he knew that targeting such beings was bound to bring backlash, courting misfortune and disaster—something he feared deeply.
Not daring to delay, he secretly conveyed his discovery to the others.
Instantly, the gaze of several Earth Core thrones shifted significantly, though Meg remained wholly perplexed.
"Sorcerer Ivan, I’ve heard your kind favors equivalent exchange. We’re willing to offer sufficient terms," the Dark Night Mother Goddess finally spoke after a long pause, her demeanor markedly transformed.
"I regret to disappoint the Goddess. The elder’s gift is of extraordinary importance. When I shamelessly accepted it, it was because the item served a crucial purpose for me. I still plan to return it at an appropriate time."
Ivan remained firm in his rejection. He indeed intended to return the gift to Qingmu Yuanmu someday.
"Don’t act ungrateful," snapped the Thousand Claw Throne.
"To be frank, I don’t believe you can restore it." Ivan dismissed the clamoring with composed manners.
"Human sorcerer, do you dare underestimate the Earth Core lineage?" the Thousand Claw Throne roared.
"I don’t dare. Yet, I still hold this belief," Ivan replied.
"Sorcerer Ivan, some things cannot be said lightly. I hope you can provide valid reasons, or else we’ll consider it an offense—a lack of reverence for the strong," the Dark Night Mother Goddess warned in a heavy tone.
"As a mere sorcerer, I dare not offend the esteemed Lords. I offer two reasons," Ivan said.
"Speak, then. Let me see what grants you such certainty," the Dark Night Mother Goddess said with a frown.
"Then this sorcerer will speak boldly. First, the elder is called the ’Ancestor of Wood,’ a being of unparalleled power. She personally stated that she could not restore this Earthroot and bestowed it upon me as her successor;
Second, the Earthroot was something I brought back across the stars from elsewhere. Upon my return, I met with the supreme Mother of All Things and relayed all details, including allowing the Mother of All Things to personally inspect the Earthroot.
I dare make these statements under the name of the supreme Mother of All Things."
Ivan once again bent slightly in respect, presenting his case with courteous reasoning.
These people were domineering, but Ivan was not without standing himself. He had obtained the direct recognition of the Mother of All Things, who had emphasized twice for him to swiftly condense his throne while promising to watch over him—an exceptionally rare honor.
It must be noted that even the Mother of Earth Core was once a guardian under the Mother of All Things.
Within the Danaila Plane, was there anyone whose authority surpassed the Mother of All Things?
"You’ve met the Mother of All Things?"
Ivan’s words shook everyone present, leaving them astonished.
"That was ten years ago. The benevolent Mother of All Things even instructed me repeatedly to ascend my throne without delay. Out of fear of failing her expectations, I’ve never dared to slack in my efforts, nor to be distracted by other matters," Ivan said with solemn emphasis, with a hint of wistful emotion.
The gathered thrones exchanged glances, while the Thousand Claw Throne’s expression turned dark and sour, as though having swallowed a fly. No wonder this individual carried such profound favor.
Meg let out a smile, his previously tense heart finally easing.
Now, the Earth Core lineage could no longer eye Ivan or what belonged to him. After all, no one could disregard the will of the Mother of All Things.
"Sorcerer Ivan is truly fortunate," murmured the Dark Night Mother Goddess after a pause of more than ten seconds.
What do you think?
