The Parents Return
Su Kang needed to travel to the Central Plains for the Heavenly Sword Sect's disciple recruitment exam, but he wanted to help stabilize his family further before leaving. Yet, circumstances prevented it.
He had considered asking Fate for a suitable technique to pass down to the family, but the techniques Fate possessed were too dangerous. Risking himself was one thing; involving his family was another. Besides, he lacked the destiny points to purchase anything so valuable.
He already owed Fate destiny points for its help with his body reconstruction. Asking for more from Fate would be too much. This is where Yue Mei came into the picture. He wanted to help her because she had background and resources, and finally, she would owe him and Su Ting a favour.
If she managed to truly awaken her body and her strength soared in the future, then he would benefit immensely. But for now, he could only ask for some help from her. Over the past weeks, she had shared more details about herself. Her aunt owned an auction house in the Xuantian Empire. Yue Mei didn't have any other family except her aunt; the two of them managed the auction house. It was surprising but much-needed information.
He had initially thought Yue Mei came from a noble family, judging by her aura and demeanor, but knowing she worked in an auction house explained things. She must have dealt with many heirs and young masters from powerful families. It was just that her interactions with Su Ting were a little different from her usual behaviour. With her connection he might found some help him.
"I hope Senior Zhu can help me in this situation," he thought, hoping to receive support from Zhu Zhihao.
....
The warmth beneath the covers contrasted sharply with the cold night air outside. In the dim glow of the bedside lanterns, two bodies lay entwined, their rapid breaths slowly calming, mingling softly in the quiet room.
Su Kang's fingers traced Bai Yunxi's back and ran through the strands of her soft hair. She felt warm against him, her fingers idly drawing patterns on his firm chest muscles, but her face still showed signs of unease.
She hesitated, the vulnerability clear in her emerald eyes, before whispering, "What if your parents don't accept me?"
His hands slid to her waist. "I told you, I'll handle it," he murmured, his voice low and steady against her ear. "There's no reason for you to worry."
"But I…" She bit her lip, uncertainty flickering in her eyes.
"What if they ask about my past? If they learn I'm the mother of your former sect brother… will they still accept me?"
Su Kang exhaled slowly, then shifted, rolling her onto her back as he leaned over her. He looked into her eyes, which were filled with unease. He caressed her right cheek, his thumb brushing her skin, before pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
"You are my wife," he whispered as his lips left her skin, his breath warm. "We married under the eyes of the Heavens. It's already too late to ask for anyone's approval."
"But they—" she whispered back, the protest fragile.
"They will accept you," he interrupted, his voice soft but firm, his gaze filled with unwavering assurance. There was a moment of quiet pause, the only sound their breathing.
Then, a teasing smirk touched his lips. "Besides, how could they possibly refuse when their daughter-in-law is so beautiful and sweet?"
"You…" she pinched his waist, though it had no effect on him. Su Kang chuckled, his fingers threading through her hair, cradling the back of her head as he leaned in.
"I'm their son. I know how to convince them." His tone carried quiet resolve, a promise wrapped in confidence. His lips captured hers, slow and lingering, drawing out every ounce of hesitation she held. Her arms tightened around his back, their bodies pressing closer as they melted into an embrace filled with fierce resolve and love.
A few days later, a quiet energy buzzed through the Su family manor as elders discreetly prepared for the return of Su Kang's parents. Strict instructions were given: their arrival was to be quiet, preventing any speculation that Su Chen and Dong Yue were returning from a mission.
Having just returned from their resource expedition, Su Chen and Dong Yue first reported to the family head and elders. As evening approached and the sun began its descent, painting the sky in fiery hues, they finally left the formal meeting. Later, settled in their private courtyard, Su Kang and Su Ting were summoned to meet them.
Su Chen, seated comfortably, took a slow sip of fragrant spirit tea, setting the delicate porcelain cup down with a satisfied nod.
"You've done something incredible this time, Kang'er," he said, his voice carrying pride as he clapped Su Kang firmly on the shoulder. "Finding an undiscovered spiritual realm—do you realize what this means for our family?"
His father was particularly curious about the mysterious individuals who had mapped the realm with such impossible detail, a question he clearly planned to ask Su Kang about privately later. Dong Yue, however, settled her sharp, perceptive gaze on her younger son, Su Ting.
"Your uncle mentioned something about a girl," she said, her tone light and playful but her eyes expectant.
Su Ting, caught mid-bite of a peach blossom pastry, nearly choked. "It's not serious, Mother! Really! Yue Mei and I… we're just getting to know each other."
Dong Yue chuckled, the sound bright and clearly amused. "Oh? Just getting to know each other? How interesting… I seem to remember when your father and I were just 'getting to know each other'—we were already a couple a few months later!"
Su Ting groaned, waving his hand. "Mother, it's not like that!"
Su Chen, listening quietly with a neutral expression, finally spoke, his attention piqued. "You said her name was Yue Mei?" His tone was neutral, but his gaze was thoughtful. "Which family is she from?"
"She's from the Xuantian Empire," Su Ting admitted hesitantly. Both parents paused, exchanging a glance.
"A noble family?" Dong Yue asked curiously.
"Yes, though her family runs an auction house," Su Ting clarified. "She's been traveling alone and is staying with us temporarily as a guest."
Su Chen frowned slightly, his fingers tapping a slow rhythm on the armrest. After a moment of thought, he added, his voice firm, "Be careful, Ting'er. People from such prominent families rarely act without purpose, and they often look down on those from border regions like ours."
Su Ting nodded quickly, eager to shift the conversation. Then, smirking, he glanced at Dong Yue. "Speaking of relationships, Mother, did you know Elder Brother has a surprise for you?"
Dong Yue's head turned toward Su Kang, her eyes widening with genuine surprise. "Son, is this true?"
Su Kang sighed, setting his cup down. "Mother, Father," he said steadily, "I want you to meet someone."
Dong Yue blinked. "You… actually have a lover?" The astonishment in her voice was clear.
Su Ting leaned back, clearly enjoying the rare moment of his brother being in the spotlight.
Su Kang nodded calmly. "Yes."
There was a brief silence. Then, Dong Yue's lips curved into a curious smile. "Well, what are you waiting for? Introduce her already."
Su Kang led them toward a separate courtyard, where Bai Yunxi stood waiting. The lanterns cast a soft glow across the hall, illuminating her delicate yet graceful figure. She wore a deep blue robe, loosely draped and cinched at the waist with a red sash.
Simple yet elegant sapphire earrings adorned her ears, subtly enhancing the natural glow of her emerald eyes. Her long, dark hair flowed freely down her back, though partially gathered into a small, intricate bun.
As she stepped forward with quiet poise, each movement radiated warmth and refined composure. Dong Yue's eyes lit up the moment she saw her. "Oh," she murmured. "She's lovely."
Bai Yunxi felt her heart pound but kept her composure, bowing respectfully. "Bai Yunxi greets Uncle and Aunt."
Su Chen studied her closely, his sharp gaze assessing every detail. His wife, however, smiled warmly. "No need for such formalities, child. You are Su Kang's woman. That makes you family."
Bai Yunxi relaxed slightly, but Su Chen’s expression remained unreadable. After a long pause, he finally spoke. "Tell me about your family."
Bai Yunxi lowered her gaze for a moment, gathering her thoughts before answering, her voice measured and clear. "I come from a small family in Qin City. My parents were merchants, primarily dealing with smaller cultivation families in the region. My clan originates from Goldstone City, near Qin City. My father… is no longer alive."
Su Chen's fingers drummed lightly against the armrest, slow and deliberate. His sharp gaze flickered over Bai Yunxi, observing her intensely.
Dong Yue, sensing the weight in the air, gently placed a hand over his, grounding him. Then, she turned to Bai Yunxi with a gentler question. "How did you two meet?"
Bai Yunxi hesitated briefly before answering. "Five years ago… Su Kang saved my life during an accident."
She wasn't sure how much to say, but before she could find the right words, Su Kang spoke for her. "I saved her back then… and expressed my desire to be with her."
Bai Yunxi's cheeks warmed at his straightforward confession. Su Kang had asked about taking responsibility, though whether those were just joking remarks or born of serious desire, Su Kang wouldn't tell them.
Dong Yue blinked, momentarily stunned. Her eyes twinkled with amusement. "Su Kang? You used to avoid women but fell in love from just one encounter?"
"I never imagined my son could be like this," Dong Yue chuckled softly before reaching out to Bai Yunxi. "But now that I see you… I understand why no one else ever captured his heart."
What do you think?
