Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Ruthless
In Pei Yansi’s office, it was spacious and bright with minimal furnishings, a testament to a very minimalist style.
But it was precisely because of this that he, now seated on the black leather sofa, loomed larger and more oppressive due to the sparseness of his surroundings.
The moment Chen Bo was brought in, fear began to churn incessantly inside him. When he locked eyes with Pei Yansi’s pitch-black pupils, devoid of any emotion, his trembling intensified.
“President Pei… what, what are you doing?”
Pain throbbed beneath him. After being brought in by Zhao Jin, he could hardly stand steady, swaying back and forth. He desperately wanted to sit down, but Pei Yansi hadn’t invited him to, so he didn’t dare.
His stance was unstable, his heart, even more so, seeming almost to leap out of his chest. Unable to help himself, he reached up to wipe the sweat beads that had formed on his forehead.
Pei Yansi watched his actions quietly, taking in every bit of his panic and fear before speaking in a deep voice, “So, you can feel fear too?”
“Heh, President Pei, what a joke… Who in this world isn’t afraid?”
Chen Bo forced a smile.
Pei Yansi said, “Tell me, what did my ex-wife do to you that made you so bold as to call the police?”
“I…” Chen Bo initially wanted to explain, but catching sight of Pei Yansi’s cold, murderous gaze, he didn’t dare to continue and quickly changed his tune, “President Pei, I was wrong, I truly was wrong…”
“At the time, I didn’t know Miss Shen was still your woman… If I had known, I would never have laid a hand on her, and besides, hasn’t she already gotten her revenge?”
Pei Yansi let out a cold laugh.
That laugh alone seemed to drop the temperature in the office to below freezing.
Chen Bo immediately didn’t dare to speak another word.
He stared at him, dumbstruck.
Pei Yansi stood up and walked over to him. As he came closer, Chen Bo’s body shook even more violently.
When he got to him, he raised his foot and pressed it down onto Chen Bo’s shoulder, saying coldly, “You thought just because she wasn’t my woman anymore, you could lay hands on her?”
“No, no, no…”
“Ah—”
Before Chen Bo could finish, Pei Yansi kicked him away.
He let out a painful scream as the kick sent him rolling backwards several times. The wounds from the hospital, already not fully healed, now throbbed with excruciating pain.
He wrapped his arms around himself, howling in agony.
Pei Yansi chuckled coldly and approached him.
Lying in disarray on the floor, Chen Bo’s only view of Pei Yansi was one from below.
Pei Yansi, looking down on him from above, his voice cold and commanding, said, “Even if she isn’t my woman now, she once was. I warn you, even the trash I’ve thrown away is not for you to touch.”
“Moreover, she’s not trash; she’s the mother of my daughter.”
Hearing this, Chen Bo froze completely.
Mother?
How could that be? Pei Yansi was never married, was he? How could he have a daughter? Only then did he remember that Pei Yansi seemed to have referred to Shen Heyuwei as ‘ex-wife’ earlier…
Pei Yansi watched his expression, and after a long while said in a grave voice, “Now do you understand? Get it?”
“Please, President Pei, spare me a way out…”
Chen Bo didn’t dare say another word, only weeping and begging for mercy.
Pei Yansi scoffed coldly, “If you had known you’d want a way out earlier, you wouldn’t have laid hands on her. Chen Bo, I will make sure you cannot live in this city anymore.”
Having said that, he called out to Zhao Jin outside: “Come in and take him away.”
Instantly, Zhao Jin came in with his men and dragged Chen Bo out.
Chen Bo cried and begged for mercy the entire way as he was leaving, but Pei Yansi gave him no chance.
After going out for a while, Zhao Jin came back and spoke to Pei Yansi, who had already sat back down on the leather sofa, “President Pei, how should we handle him?”
“Chop off one of his ‘salty pig hands’.”
How dare he touch what belonged to him, it was as if he no longer wanted his own hands. Pei Yansi’s voice was cold as he said, “Then take all the property under his name, tell the industry that anyone who dares to employ him, help him, or invest in him is going against me, Pei Yansi.”
“Yes.”
Zhao Jin didn’t harbor any doubts about his approach, nor did he feel that anything was inappropriate.
It seemed he had long since grown accustomed to it.
After dealing with Chen Bo, the fire in Pei Yansi’s heart still hadn’t died down.
He thought of Yuexue, thought of Shen Heyu, and didn’t know what to do. The thought of Bai Sheng’er daring to lay hands on Yuexue made him even more furious.
He sat down at his desk to first finish the work that had piled up over the past few days.
When it was about time, Pei Yansi got up, grabbed his suit jacket and draped it over his arm, and left the company, intending to go to the hospital.
Zhao Jin was already waiting in the car downstairs.
As he got in, Zhao Jin said, “President Pei, I have already contacted someone willing to donate a cornea, they will arrive tomorrow, and then the young miss’s eyes will be saved.”
Pei Yansi hummed in response, seemingly indifferent.
When the car arrived at the hospital, it was already past seven in the evening.
He walked to the door of the hospital room and could see inside through a small transparent window in the door.
He saw Shen Heyu leaning back on the sofa, the old lady was not there, and she had her eyes tightly closed, asleep.
The daughter in the bed was also asleep.
They both seemed exhausted by the ordeal.
Seeing this, he lightened his step, tiptoeing into the room.
He closed the door of the hospital room, approached Shen Heyu, and looked down at her.
After she fell asleep, she was very quiet, her fair face softened under the light’s glow, her features relaxed, and long eyelashes casting shadows–serene and beautiful like a dream.
But her sleeping posture was one where both hands were hugging herself.
This was a… very insecure posture.
A pang of pain hit his heart, and he took off the suit jacket from his arm and gently covered Shen Heyu with it.
Almost the moment he touched her, she woke up.
As she opened her eyes, they met Pei Yansi’s surprisingly gentle gaze.
Pei Yansi was taken aback; he hadn’t expected that merely placing the clothes lightly on her would wake her up. Her sense of security must be very frail and her sleep so light and sensitive.
Shen Heyu got up from the sofa and rubbed her eyes while instinctively pushing away the clothes he handed her.
Her rejection caused the light in Pei Yansi’s eyes to dim slightly, and he casually withdrew his hand, then sat next to her and asked, “Have you had dinner yet?”
Shen Heyu shook her head.
“Shall I take you out?”
“I need to stay with Yuexue.”
“Zhao Jin is here; it’s just for the time it takes to eat a meal.”
Besides, Yuexue was asleep, and leaving for just a short while Pei Yansi didn’t think it was a problem. More importantly, he didn’t want to see Shen Heyu so tired.
She would starve at this rate.
He took her hand, glanced at the red marks on her wrist to see if they had faded.
What do you think?
