Chapter 94 - 94 Discovered
Chapter 94: Discovered Chapter 94: Discovered Shang Hexing leisurely watched her, those profound eyes seeming to see through all disguises.
Wen Zhi dared not meet his eyes and sheepishly said, “Maybe I should go out first.”
Shang Hexing looked at her evasive eyes and suggested, “What if we go out together?”
Such a light and casual remark sounded to Wen Zhi like thunder out of a clear sky, and she quickly shook her head: “That’s not possible!”
She seemed to see a teasing glint in Shang Hexing’s eyes.
He had said it on purpose.
And she, was easily frightened.
“You go out first,” he said, not troubling her further.
Wen Zhi nodded, turning to leave in a fluster.
Shang Hexing gazed long at her slender figure, then looked at the Silver Hairpin in his hand and casually tossed it into the trash bin beside him.
–
After coming out of the restroom, Wen Zhi quickly spotted Meng Fan among the crowd.
She headed straight toward Meng Fan, walking briskly, and unintentionally bumped into someone.
She staggered a step, and the person she had bumped into steadied her by the arm: “Walking in such a hurry, who’s chasing you?”
It was Liang Yin, who spoke with a teasing tone.
Wen Zhi looked up at him: “I accidentally bumped into you.”
Liang Yin smirked: “It’s my fault for suddenly blocking you, it’s not your fault.”
As he spoke, his gaze drifted to her head, noticing the absence of the Silver Hairpin, and he asked her, “Did you take off your Silver Hairpin?”
Wen Zhi subconsciously touched her hair bun and, if not for Liang Yin’s reminder, she would have almost forgotten that Shang Hexing had just removed her Silver Hairpin. She said, “It might not have been securely fastened, it probably fell off accidentally in the restroom.”
Liang Yin remarked, “What a pity.”
Wen Zhi said it was nothing to regret.
Liang Yin agreed with her words: “Going natural without embellishments, you’re already very beautiful, the Silver Hairpin actually seemed somewhat superfluous.”
“I saw Meng Fan has arrived; I’ll go find Meng Fan,” Wen Zhi couldn’t keep up with his conversation and just had to get past him.
Liang Yin nodded and reminded her, “Your heels are quite thin; walk slower.”
“Got it,” she had already walked away.
Seeing Wen Zhi walking so fast earlier, Liang Yin was just worried she might fall, hence he came out to stop her, not understanding why she looked so tense.
Liang Yin turned and looked toward the restroom.
At that moment, Shang Hexing was coming out from there.
Liang Yin narrowed his long, narrow eyes and walked forward.
…
Wen Zhi approached Meng Fan from behind. Meng Fan didn’t notice, but Huaishen saw her.
Wen Zhi lightly tapped Meng Fan’s left shoulder; as Meng Fan turned her head, Wen Zhi moved to her right.
Meng Fan puzzled, “Who tapped me?”
Wen Zhi didn’t move or make a sound.
Meng Fan turned her head back, but soon her left shoulder was tapped again. Meng Fan turned her head once more, still seeing no one, and then just stared in that direction.
Huaishen just quietly watched, not intervening; he wanted to see how perplexed she could get!
It wasn’t until Wen Zhi moved closer and appeared in Meng Fan’s field of vision: “It’s me.”
The annoyance on Meng Fan’s face vanished the moment she saw Wen Zhi, replaced instead by sheer astonishment; she was dazzled by Wen Zhi in her lake-green cheongsam.
“Oh my Zhizhi, who are you trying to enchant to death!”
Meng Fan held Wen Zhi’s hand and carefully admiring the cheongsam she was wearing: “That tiny waist, those hips, and these proportions, if I were a man, you wouldn’t be getting any sleep tonight!”
Wen Zhi held a finger to her lips, continually reminding Meng Fan, “Shh, keep your voice down, you’re exaggerating too much.”
“Where am I exaggerating? Our Zhizhi is so beautiful, I have to shout it out loud. I want everyone to see your beauty,” Meng Fan said with pride beaming on her face, as if Wen Zhi were her own daughter, eager to show her off everywhere.
Wen Zhi was embarrassed by the compliments.
Meng Fan leaned in closer to admire the makeup on Wen Zhi’s face: “This eyeliner suits you too. You should always wear it like this.”
Wen Zhi said, “I can’t do it. The makeup artist did this for me.”
Meng Fan assured her in a confident tone, “No worries, I’ll teach you how to do it myself from now on.”
From aside, Huaishen’s voice could be heard, “The banquet is on the second floor, come up later by yourselves.”
Meng Fan, without even turning her head, replied indifferently, “Got it.”
Before leaving, Huaishen commented, “So pretentious.”
Meng Fan suddenly turned her head, “Who are you calling pretentious?”
However, Huaishen had already left, leaving only his cold and distant silhouette behind.
Meng Fan stomped her feet in anger, holding Wen Zhi’s hand to voice her grievances: “Look at the miserable life I live. That jerk always gives me the cold shoulder, always making insinuations at me. I just can’t live with him another day.”
Having said that, Meng Fan leaned on Wen Zhi’s shoulder acting spoilt.
Wen Zhi, smiling, asked her, “I know you really want to divorce him, but have you thought about what if he consistently refuses?”
Meng Fan whispered into Wen Zhi’s ear, “I’m already gathering evidence of his infidelity. If he won’t agree to a divorce, I’ll make his infidelity public and embarrass him.”
Wen Zhi said, “That might be a difficult process.”
“What!” Meng Fan raised her head. “Even you underestimate me?”
Wen Zhi didn’t mean that. She told Meng Fan, “From what I’ve observed, I think Director Rong has some feelings for you. You might not notice it, and he might not have realized it either.”
“Pah, pah, pah! Who cares about that jerk’s feelings.” Meng Fan’s face was full of disdain, “It’s not like there aren’t any good men in the world. Why should I demean myself by fighting over him with a girl from a poor background? That would be such a downgrade.”
Well said.
Just as Wen Zhi was feeling happy about Meng Fan’s refreshing perspective, Meng Fan suddenly remembered the gossip she had seen in the restroom and pulled Wen Zhi to a less crowded area, making a ‘you know’ face, “There’s something.”
Having known Meng Fan for so many years, Wen Zhi knew these little expressions too well. That look meant—there’s gossip.
Bored anyway, Wen Zhi was happy to listen, leaning closer, “Do tell.”
Meng Fan, with a wicked grin, lowered her voice and shared the gossip into Wen Zhi’s ear, “Just now, I went to the restroom, guess what I saw?”
Wen Zhi felt a jolt when she heard ‘restroom’, and her smile froze, “…What did you see?”
Meng Fan said, “There was a man with a woman in the smoking area, having a secret meeting. Think about it, at an event like this, if they were a couple, they’d just be openly showing affection. Why sneak off there to whisper sweet nothings? Either that man has a wife, or that woman has a husband. The relationship is definitely not simple, very complicated indeed!”
Wen Zhi: “…”
The smile on her face didn’t disappear; instead, it moved to Meng Fan’s face, who was smiling so widely that her eyes were nearly closed, her gossip-loving heart ablaze.
“Zhizhi, if only you had come a bit earlier. You don’t know how frustrated I was that I couldn’t share it with anyone right away!” While saying this, Meng Fan even sighed.
Wen Zhi swallowed nervously, tentatively asking Meng Fan, “Did you see their faces?”
Meng Fan shook her head, “No.”
Wen Zhi breathed a sigh of relief.
Meng Fan continued, “But!”
Wen Zhi’s heart hung in suspense, tensely looking at Meng: “But what?”
Meng Fan clicked her tongue twice, “That man kept the woman very well hidden. Although I couldn’t see what she looked like or what she was wearing, I did see her high heels…eh?”
Meng Fan looked down at Wen Zhi’s heels, paused for two seconds and said, “Her high heels look very similar to yours, Zhizhi. They’re white too, with lace and bow decorations on the tips, and they’re also slim. They’re exactly the same…??”
By the end, Meng Fan’s expression turned blank.
She took a closer look at Wen Zhi’s shoes, then lifted her head to look at Wen Zhi’s face, and after a few examinations, she was flabbergasted, “Holy crap, they really are identical.”
What do you think?
