Chapter 628: Challenges Daimon & Nethereal sisters, Jazmine’s version (part 17)
Luckily for Calvin, Loren was indeed interested in what the enemy queen looked like right now and for a good reason, whatever she said to her opponent, made it go as far as to try and take her down alongside him.
All the other nethereals that had fought with her friends and teammates, tried to survive at the end, but David instead not only didn't escape, but the moment he realized his ultimate attack had no chance against Loren's one, was only protect his head.
It was both so that he could set his medal to self-destroy and to make the enemy whom he was sure was practically out of mana, approach him in order to finish him off, reducing the distance between his target and what was going to be the origin of the explosion.
'The plan was perfect, unlike the others, that guy followed my orders to the end, but that masked bastard had to interfere at the last second, damn it!!!', inwardly cursed Erika as she fiercely glared at Daimon.
The worst part is that she didn't know how he saw through her plans and even more importantly, how he screwed them up right under her nose.
Contrary to what the enemy queen believed, the answer was actually quite simple, from the very beginning, Daimon already knew what she was scheming, for the sole reason that with his sharp senses he easily detected the abnormal amount of nether being gathered into that medal.
After all, David was a knight, if he would have been a mage then perhaps his energy manipulation would have been fluid and advanced enough to hide the process from a gaze from Daimon.
Not that it would have mattered, since the infinity eyes would have seen through him, anyway, the rest was easy, he kept a tight watch over the flow of the battle and then when acted when he concluded that rook guy will make his move.
Which was when Loren's spell overwhelmed his ultimate attack, it wasn't a coincidence that Loren purposedly made her light mana produce a blinding flash the moment her spell landed on the ground.
Daimon told her to use all her remaining mana to use the spell "mirage" to make a replacement, while the real Loren was taken out of the battlefield by a shadow portal, courtesy of the undead head maid, all within that fraction of a second when everyone's eyes were blinded by the flashlight produced by Loren's spell.
What came next was obvious, Loren controlled her mirage to approach the enemy and David who saw the perfect conditions for his plan being "fulfilled" died while setting off the medal to explode, without knowing that the enemy which was coming to finish him off, was but a light illusion with extra mana injected into it to make it look more real.
Seeing the murderous expression Erika's face and her deathly glare, Daimon casually said.
"Feel free to play all the tricks you want, but unless you call out those three bastards to the battlefield, none of them will work".
"How dare you disrespect the Lords like that, let's see you keeping your cool when I crush that ungrateful brat's head with my own hands!", shouted the enemy queen as she returned to her side of the barrier.
Earlier she bent the rules to interfere with the barrier, and to block Daimon's way, which counted as she entering in direct conflict with Jasmine before she was supposed to, by using the nether of the Balax Lord stored in that medal, and now that the effect was disappearing, so she had to return to her previous position, not to mention that it was all for naught, since she was tricked by Daimon.
Speaking of which, back at the resting area, Haylee approached Loren with a happy expression on her face, naturally she felt happy that her friend had become stronger, on the other hand she also pouted to then say.
"Your variant light element was as amazing as it sounded… but why didn't you tell your best friend about those new spells of yours?", she asked.
Loren's face slightly reddened, but she ultimately decided to tell the truth as embarrassing as it was.
"I still hadn't thought of proper names for them, Universal Light makes it so I can transform my healing spells into attacks directly without the need of pulling any tricks unlike before… so they should be given a different name when used with it", she said.
That's right, Loren's variant element made it so that she wouldn't even need to learn attack type spells, her healing spells become attacks when they are powered with it, that was her reward for the challenge she completed and the best part of it, is that even if she did so in public, the families and forces that had been keeping her family in check can't do anything about it.
Because her Universal Light maintains the property of her second light affinity, which is that it doesn't lean towards any of the two sides, being able to affect both those at the negative side of the energy spectrum and those at the positive side as well, just like her healing type light, despite it being white colored light like the one used by humans, except those that use corrosive light, it's "neutral".
She found a way to overcome the restrictions placed on her, without putting her family in danger, since she is technically not breaking any rules, and Daimon can confirm it, the mana circuits and the process she used for the four attack spells she used earlier, is the exact same as that of the healing spells whose names she called.
It's only the result that is different and that "isn't" her fault, it's her light element which had mutated the one at fault, what's more, is that since she is now a variant, Aura, Erin, Zein and naturally Solomon, in other words the Half Emperors that have sided with the 1S elite class in the open, have a reasonable and "non-biased" reason to vouch for her and her family, as she is now not only talented but a unique case.
Calvin who was looking for a chance to make his comeback, immediately saw the opportunity and took it.
"How about "Daylight", "Decay", "Burning Field" and… "Execution", I think they go along with their effects being the opposite of what they would do", he said as he appealed to Loren, who couldn't help but have sparkles in her eyes at the names her boyfriend came up with in such a short period of time.
"Mm, I like them~", happily said Loren as she smiled to Calvin, which was like a blessing for the Grish young master, at least until Michael decided to kick him back into the blender by saying.
"I quite like "Execution" she destroyed a defense type earth affinity knight with it, so if Calvin gets any funny ideas in the future, you can calmly kick his ass now".
And that reminded Loren of the fact that Calvin "admired" Daimon for having both Liz and Elaine as his fiancées, and that she has a beautiful older sister.
"Come on, let me alone you shrimp bastard!", exclaimed Calvin which then started a discussion between those two, making Loren and Haylee both sigh, the four of them had improved in a lot of aspects but some things remained the same.
Now that the romantic re-encounter had ended, the others also came to talk with Loren, to either congratulate her or simply make some small talk, well besides Sarah who was quite interested in how she obtained a second light affinity to then combine it with the original to become a variant, since that sounded like something that could help her protect Jasmine.
…
High into the skies, Daimon who observed the interactions between his teammates and he couldn't help but think.
'New affinities, lineage awakenings and even two element variants, not to mention the changes that Scarlet and her sisters as well as Michael and Calvin went through, isn't it a bit too much even if they are influenced by a system user?', he asked to which Evangeline said
'Yes, it is, opportunities of this magnitude wouldn't be surprising if they were part of the main focus of a mission or something along the lines of it, like that whale princess or the unlucky angel fish woman, but they aren't, and it hasn't been too long since they got tangled with you so… I also have no idea of what's going on'.
'Ultimately your influence on them needs time to work, so this probably happened because of Aisha, making their competitiveness soar into the sky, but it also helped that the rewards the obtained through this place seem to be perfectly fitting for them', concluded Eve, which made Daimon inwardly frown for a second as he looked at his right pocket.
'There is that too, you better give me an explanation soon, you little thing', thought Daimon, which made his black sea emblem glow for a second.
Leaving that aside, the atmosphere around the enemy queen and Jasmine suddenly changed, meaning that it was time for the first part of their clash to start, just like with Reyne and Sarah they had to fight with their "pawns" before it was their turn.
[The White Queen earned the first movement privilege, please choose how many "Blank Golems" will you command, you are free to inspect them for the next five minutes]
With the previous, a portal appeared on the sky, before a total of sixteen humanoid gray "statues" came out of it to then descend until they were floating in between Erika and Jasmine.
The light palace's princess turned to see Daimon who nodded at her before she approached the statues under Daimon's careful watch, to then place her hand on one of them, which made an information window to appear in front of her, one that the enemy queen couldn't see by the way.
[Blank Golem: a training device developed for those who command armies to compare their skills, by using boosting or weakening spell or martial on them, they'll change depending on the case, be careful as they can be captured by the enemy if the energy you supply becomes lacking]
[You can inspect how much energy will they need by trying to circulate your mana while touching one of them]
Jasmine did as the instructions said and she felt as if a large quantity of mana was drained out of her, she tried to not show it but her slender body slightly shook for a second, a detail that didn't escape the enemy queen's eyes.
'Would you look at that, just testing the energy needed for a single blank golem produced such a reaction, what a weakling', thought Erika.
As strange as it might sound, she was not surprised by this set up at all, because she has played this "game" quite a few times before, it's a training exercise exclusive for the right and left hands of the Balax Lord, in other words the captain of the special corps and Erika herself.
And that's not all, she has trained on it… directly against the Balax Lord, once before, of course she was defeated, but the important part is that she has experience on it, while the opponent clearly didn't.
'What's more, that ungrateful brat is too young and inexperienced, I'm sure she has only reached this far due to the interference of that masked bastard, but he won't be able to interfere this time', thought the enemy queen as she calmly waited for Jasmine to make her choice.
The light princess had the earned the first movement privilege, and so she could choose the number of blank golems she wanted to use first, technically she could even take all of them, the problem is that she needed to supply mana to all the ones she took at the same time.
And if she couldn't keep them up with her mana, they could be "stolen" by the opponent, so it was futile to take more pieces than the ones she could sustain at the same time.
After a moment of hesitation, Jasmine made her choice.
"I'll take seven of them", she mumbled, making seven of the gray statues float towards her to then turn around to be facing at Erika's side.
"I'll take all the remaining ones then", disdainfully said the enemy queen, which made the remaining nine blank golems come her way to then turn to face Jasmine's ones.
Having had the blank golems distributed, the two queens were then moved in contrary directions, opening a huge space for their pawns to fight, Daimon who casually flew towards Jasmine as the rules of the challenge didn't seem to apply to him, heard the enemy queen saying.
"After all, "No interference" stuff that came from your mouth, I expect you to not pull any tricks to help that little bi…", unfortunately for Erika, Daimon had no interest in her words.
"I'll do whatever I want, just like those bastards who are hiding in their castles while watching, that being said, I had zero doubts about who will win this fight", casually said Daimon as he flew into the distance, leaving behind an Erika who was gritting her teeth due to anger.
"Yeah, it will be me!", she exclaimed to then look at her pawns, she couldn't activate them or make any formation with them until the enemy did it, because she lost all the fights, it was humiliating but it was nothing for her who has only being completely defeated by her Lord in person, while she managed to tie with the captain of the special corps in terms of wins and losses.
With that, as if the challenge had waited for Daimon to take his leave, new barriers formed between Erika and Jasmine, for a total of eight, four in front of Jasmine and four in front of Erika, each separated by a certain distance.
[The fight will start in sixty seconds, the White Queen will be allowed to move once while the Orange Queen is restricted, if the barriers are destroyed, the respective queen will have to dodge the attacks from the pawns of the enemy and the one who loses all her pawns will have to take one attack from the winner without being able to move, good luck]
And with that, the rest of the rules were explained, basically they had to fight using those pawns while also using them to break the barriers protecting their enemy, they could receive attacks from the pawns if all their barriers were destroyed and the one whose pawns lost, would have to take an attack from the opponent.
Jasmine whose eyes were glowing, felt a bit nervous having only a few seconds left before her fight started, because this was going to be the first time she would be able to get back at the monster that caused her mother's "death", well she now had two mothers, but they didn't remember her… at all.
That didn't stop them from liking the light princess, as she is quite a good girl, but their relationship was strange, after all they suddenly gained a daughter of which they knew nothing about, so they treated Jasmine as if she was a really good friend of their daughter, in other words Reyne, at least for the time being.
Despite the previous making her little heart tighten back then, Jasmine who has matured thanks to all the recent events knew that they weren't at fault, neither was she, the one to blame was the bastard standing behind her current opponent.
"Silver Blessing!", with a strangely fierce light burning in her pretty bright blue eyes, Jasmine pointed her staff at one of the blank golems and a dazzling white light was shot at it.
The light princess decided to start strong, with a spell that she has learned only recently, in fact it was the first time she used it in front of anyone.
The white light entered the blank golem and the gray statue turned pure white, before its vague humanoid figure started changing, until it had taken a feminine shape, it looked like a perfectly detailed young woman wearing something like a sister's attire, of course it was carved into the now white stone, instead of being real clothes.
[Resistance to negative effects increased by 20%]
Surprisingly the effect of the spell that Jasmine used was explained for everyone to hear, then the previously lifeless eyes of the statue lit up in white flames, that was the sign of the mana that was being injected into it for it to be able to move.
"Mm", Jasmine was momentarily dazed by the connection that it formed between herself and the statue, which she could control with her thoughts now, but she recovered in a fraction of a second, each movement used a part of the mana that was stored inside the statue and if it diminished too much she will have to inject more or the statue might be either become lifeless again or it could be stolen by Erika.
Speaking of the enemy queen, now that Jasmine has made the first move, she was free to take action as well.
"Song of War!", with a loud shout, orange battle aura exploded out of her body turning into an ethereal trumpet that then shot a few rays of orange light which landed on a total of three of her gray statues.
As a result, the three statues turned dark orange toned, their previously vague humanoid figures became taller and much more solid looking with a muscular build, they all were female looking and had what would have been leather armor had it not been carved into stone.
[Strength Increased by 10%]
The effect might appear to lose when compared to the buff spell that Jasmine used, but it affected three statues with a single casting, so while Jasmine's spell increased 20%, the one used by Erika increased a total of 30%.
That being said, it would be like comparing apples with oranges, since Jasmine's spell was aimed to prevent her pawn from being affected by negative effects like curses in which nethereals seem to be well-versed, it was a rather neutral approach.
While Erika on the other hand took a much more aggressive stance, directly creating soldiers, which by the way started flying towards Jasmine's outer barrier where her recently activated statue was stationed.
The enemy queen saw Jasmine being about to cast her second spell to sent another pawn to defend her first barrier and she smirked.
'Too slow bitch!', she thought to then yell.
"Burning Fighting Spirit!", compared to before, the martial art was actually casted by one of the three statues she controlled, so the effect activated way faster than expected.
The result was that the three statues lit up in orange flames, before they actually became faster, reaching their target in an instant.
[Instant movement speed increased by 20%]
Even the explanation of the effect of her martial art came in a fraction of a second later, by that time, the three warrior looking statues punched at Jasmine's barrier at the same time.
"Booom!", a loud explosion was produced due to the impact and what followed was as expected, cracks appearing on the outer barrier.
'The durability of the most outer barrier is really low, a couple rounds of those attacks and it will break, as I expected the Lord had already prepared me for this day since a long time ago!', excitedly thought Erika.
While the most important rules of the game were explained earlier, the other dynamics had to be discovered by the commanders, just like in a real battlefield, so the experience that Erika had was bound to be an advantage for the enemy queen.
But then, instead of showing any signs of panic, the light princess saw from the corner of her eyes the imposing and tall figure of her "king" who was floating actually a few centimeters ahead of her at her right side, as if to stand in front of her in order to protect her and she felt incredibly calm.
"Light protection", with a couple of words, the female priest like statue had a white light mana sphere appear around her as she came out of the barrier to face the three warriors head on.
"Do you really believe you can block three of my pawns with just one, you arrogant brat!", exclaimed Erika as she ordered her warriors to pummel their opponent into gravel, but then her eyes contracted as she saw the blond-haired girl smile as she said.
"Silver Shield".
"Clang!", the three fists clashed against the mana sphere covering the priest statue and to Erika's disbelief, not only did they couldn't break through it, but also… their whole arms cracked on the spot.
"Crack!".
'No way!', and while Erika was at a loss about what happened a second ago, the explanation of the spell that Jasmine just used, echoed through the sky.
[Physical and Magical defense of a single spell increased by 300%]
"What!", this time Erika couldn't help but express her disbelief out loud, that was one outrageous buffing spell after all.
What do you think?
