Reincarnated in a scientific magic world

# Chapter 10: Whispers Beyond the Veil

Meeks stood at the edge of the Floating Gardens, a terraced oasis where the academy grew enchanted crops. Below him, students tended to vines that glowed like neon and fruit that sang when ripe. His hands rested on the railing, still shimmering faintly from that morning’s Soulweaving session.

*‘Three weeks since the farmlands,’* he thought. The realm had been quiet—*too* quiet. Even the System’s alerts had dulled to a background hum.

Lira found him there, her boots clicking against the polished stone. “You’re needed in the Observatory. Aldryn’s… agitated.”

“Agitated?” Meeks raised an eyebrow. “Did someone misalign his star charts again?”

“Worse,” she said, tossing him a small crystal. “*Look.*”

He caught it and activated **Analysis Mode**.

---

### **Object:** Unknown Artifact (Recovered from eastern farmlands)

- **Material:** Non-terrestrial alloy (Origin: Extraplanar)

- **Age:** 12,000+ years (Predates Eryndor’s recorded history)

---

The Observatory was chaos. Aldryn paced before a hologram of swirling galaxies, while Jax and Kaela argued over a table littered with artifacts.

“—could be a precursor civilization!” Kaela snapped, holding up a jagged metal shard.

“Or a *warning*,” Jax countered.

Aldryn silenced them with a glare. “Meeks. This artifact’s energy signature matches the void you described. It’s a relic from *outside* our reality.”

Meeks picked up a fragment. It hummed in his grip, and for a moment, his vision blurred—a flash of towering obsidian spires under a black sun.

[**Realm Synchronization Activated!**]

[Memory Fragment Detected: **The First Convergence**]

---

### **System Quest:**

**Decipher the Artifacts**

Objective: Use Soulweaving to unlock their memories.

Reward: **Ancient Knowledge** | **+10% Realm Synchronization**

---

Meeks hesitated. “This could backfire. What if it’s a trap?”

Aldryn’s gaze was unyielding. “The artifacts began activating the moment you returned. They’re drawn to *you*, Catalyst.”

That night, Meeks sat alone in the Forge, the relics arranged in a circle. He pressed his palm to the largest fragment and let his energy flow.

Gold threads spiraled into the metal, and the room dissolved.

---

**Memory Fragment: The First Convergence**

*He stood in a city of impossible geometry, its skyline shifting like liquid. Beings of light and shadow moved through streets paved with starlight, their voices harmonizing into a single chant: “The Cycle must hold.”*

*Before them loomed a rift—a mirror of the one Meeks had sealed. A figure stepped forward, their form flickering between countless shapes. With a gesture, they wove threads of gold and black into a lattice, sealing the tear. The crowd roared… then dissolved into ash. The city collapsed, leaving only fragments.*

---

Meeks jerked back, gasping. The artifacts now glowed, their edges fused into a perfect sphere.

[**Realm Synchronization: 25%**]

[New Ability Unlocked: **Echowalking** (Limited access to memory fragments)]

Aldryn stormed in, his face pale. “The artifacts—their energy spiked. What did you see?”

“A warning,” Meeks whispered. “The Cycle… it’s happened before. They sealed the rifts, but it *killed* them.”

---

### **Emergency Quest:**

**Investigate the Blackridge Mountains**

Objective: Locate the source of anomalous energy matching the artifacts.

Reward: **Clue to the Cycle**

---

The team teleported to a snowy peak where the air tasted metallic. Kaela’s scanners flickered. “There’s a structure buried beneath us—non-Eryndorian architecture.”

They dug through ice until they found a door etched with the same symbols from Meeks’ vision. Lira traced the carvings. “This isn’t a language. It’s a *map*.”

The door opened silently. Inside lay a vault filled with holographic records—and a single, pulsing crystal orb.

**“Do not touch that,”** a voice echoed.

A figure materialized—a humanoid with translucent skin and eyes like fractured glass.

[**Analysis:** Temporal Echo (Sentient)]

“You shouldn’t be here, Catalyst,” the echo said. “The Cycle is not yours to break.”

Meeks stepped forward. “What *is* the Cycle?”

The echo’s form flickered. “A loop. Realms rise, realms fall. The Convergences are… corrections. Your Anchor delayed it, but the void *will* reclaim this world.”

“There has to be another way,” Jax said.

The echo smiled bitterly. “We said the same thing.” It vanished, leaving the orb behind.

---

### **System Alert:**

**Orb Identified:** Cycle Core (Inactive)

**Warning:** Activation may accelerate Convergence.

---

Aldryn ordered the orb quarantined, but Meeks couldn’t shake the echo’s words. That night, he slipped into the vault and placed his hand on the orb.

*‘Show me,’* he thought.

The orb flared, and the System screamed.

---

[**Realm Synchronization Overload!**]

[**Error: Direct interface with Cycle Core prohibited—**]

The world went black.

When he awoke, Lira was shaking him, her voice raw with fear. “Meeks! Your *eyes*—”

He stumbled to a mirror. His irises now swirled with galaxies, and scales gleamed along his jawline.

[**New Designation:** Realm Catalyst (Tier 3)]

[**Warning:** Integration with the Cycle has begun.]

---

In the Observatory, Aldryn stared at the orb. “You’ve altered the timeline. The Convergence is now due in *weeks*.”

Meeks touched the mirror-like surface of the orb, where his reflection rippled like water. “Then we’ll alter it again.”

Somewhere beyond the veil, something *stirred*.
