Chapter 63: A New Home

The journey back to the capital was a quiet one, filled with contemplation and thoughts of the new beginning that lay ahead. Lyra, Yuki, Ella, and their newly bonded familiar, Mizu, walked side by side as they made their way through the bustling streets of the capital. The day was bright and clear, the air filled with the hum of activity that only a large city could offer. As they entered the Adventurers’ Guild once more, their footsteps echoed in the large hall, signaling their return.

The representative who had greeted them earlier was behind the desk, sorting through some paperwork. She glanced up as she saw them approach and offered them a welcoming smile. "Welcome back," she said. "I trust your mission went smoothly?"

Lyra stepped forward, her expression thoughtful. "Yes, the dungeon was… challenging, but we managed. We also discovered something quite interesting," she added, her voice tinged with excitement. "I’ve contracted with a water spirit—her name is Mizu."

Mizu, standing at Lyra’s side, offered a friendly wave, her white fur shimmering faintly in the sunlight that streamed through the windows. The representative’s eyes widened in surprise and admiration.

"A water spirit, you say? That’s certainly an impressive companion to have," the representative said with a respectful nod. "You must have had quite the adventure."

"We did," Ella chimed in, smiling. "And now, we’re looking to settle down a bit, so we thought it might be time to find a house."

The representative raised an eyebrow. "A house, you say?" She stood up and walked to a nearby shelf, pulling down a folder filled with documents. "I might have just the thing for you. I know a reliable contact who specializes in selling houses. I’ll mark the address for you."

She wrote down a name and a location on a piece of parchment and handed it over to Lyra. "This should guide you to her. She has a variety of properties for sale, from simple cottages to more extravagant homes. I’m sure she’ll be able to help you find something suitable."

"Thank you," Lyra said, taking the paper. "We’ll head there right now."

With the directions in hand, the group made their way out of the Guild and into the vibrant streets of the capital once more. The hustle and bustle of the city continued around them, but now there was a sense of purpose in their steps. They were no longer just adventurers on a journey. They were about to make a place of their own, a foundation for the future.

The journey to the address was not far. It led them to a quieter district of the city, where the buildings were a little more spaced out, and the air felt less crowded. As they walked down the cobbled streets, Lyra couldn’t help but feel the weight of the moment. A house. A home. It was a dream she’d held in her heart for as long as she could remember. Now, it was about to come true.

At the end of a winding street, they found the place marked on the parchment—a small, unassuming office with a sign that read, "Hannah’s Houses for Sale." The building itself was modest, but it had a warm, welcoming feel. The wooden door opened with a soft creak as they stepped inside, greeted by a cozy interior and the soft scent of freshly baked bread wafting from a nearby bakery.

Behind a counter stood a woman in her late thirties. She was dressed in a simple, yet elegant, green dress with a brown apron tied around her waist. Her long brown hair was pulled back into a loose bun, and she had a welcoming smile on her face as she stood to greet them.

"Hello, welcome! You must be the ones who are interested in a house?" The woman’s voice was warm and friendly, and her eyes gleamed with professionalism. "My name is Hannah. How can I help you today?"

Lyra nodded, stepping forward with a slight smile. "Yes, we’re looking for a house—something with three stories, with a nice garden in both the front and back."

Hannah’s eyes lit up at the request. "Three stories and a garden, you say? I think I have just the place in mind for you." She stood up and grabbed a bundle of keys from a nearby shelf. "Follow me. I think you’ll be pleased with what I have."

The group followed Hannah down the street, through the winding alleys of the quieter district, until they reached a house at the end of the block. Lyra’s breath caught in her throat as she saw the building in front of her.

It was a large, three-story house, with ivy growing up the walls and a charming, slightly rustic appearance. The house had large windows that let in an abundance of light, and the front yard was beautifully landscaped, with an elegant stone path leading up to the front door. The back yard was even more impressive, with a sprawling garden and a small pond surrounded by flowers.

"This is it," Hannah said, unlocking the door and gesturing for them to enter. "It’s been on the market for a little while, but it’s still a gem. The price is reasonable—one hundred gold coins for the whole property."

Lyra felt a smile spread across her face. The house was perfect. It was exactly what she had imagined—a place that would allow them to settle down and call home. The price was steep, but it felt worth it for the tranquility and beauty of the space.

"We’ll take it," Ella said, grinning. "This is exactly what we need."

Hannah led them inside, showing them the various rooms—the spacious living areas, the cozy kitchen, and the bedrooms, each with large windows that overlooked the lush gardens outside. Everything about the house was perfect, and Lyra could already picture herself living here, with Yuki, Ella, and Mizu.

After a thorough tour, they sat down in the main room, and Lyra handed over the payment—a full 100 gold coins, carefully counted and placed on the table. Hannah accepted it with a smile, and they both signed the contract, finalizing the purchase.

"Congratulations," Hannah said, shaking Lyra’s hand. "You’ve made an excellent choice. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your new home."

As they left the office, Lyra felt a sense of peace wash over her. They had a home now—an anchor in this chaotic world.

They returned to the house later that day, and after unpacking their things, they set about cleaning and organizing. It was a long, laborious process, but one that felt fulfilling. The scent of fresh paint filled the air as they wiped down the surfaces, scrubbed the floors, and planted flowers in the garden. Mizu, ever the playful one, darted around, chasing the butterflies that flitted about in the newly planted flowerbeds.

By the time the sun set, the house was already beginning to feel like home. The rooms were filled with laughter, the air was filled with the scent of fresh herbs from the garden, and the quiet stillness of the night was only broken by the sounds of their voices as they talked and worked together.

"This is going to be our home," Lyra said, a sense of warmth filling her chest. "A place where we can rest and plan for the future."

"Yeah," Yuki said, grinning as she flopped down on one of the couches. "This place is amazing. It’s going to be perfect for all of us."

Ella nodded, her gaze sweeping over the house. "I agree. It’s everything we need."

As they settled in for the night, Lyra looked around their new home, a soft smile on her lips. She knew that this was just the beginning. There were still so many adventures to be had, so much more to explore, but for the first time in a long time, she felt as though she had a place she truly belonged.

And with Mizu at her side, there was no limit to what they could accomplish together.
