The flying ship sped directly toward the basin where the Decayed Bone Stone Mine was located, stopping above the deep pit at the mine's entrance.
The four of them disembarked from the ship and landed at the edge of the pit.
A male cultivator in the mid-Foundation Establishment stage approached them.
"Greetings, Elder Chu, greetings, Young Master Chu, and greetings, fellow seniors."
The male cultivator did not recognize Song Wen and Cui Yan, but he could feel the deep cultivation auras emanating from the two of them.
Chu Lingyun addressed the male cultivator, "Miao Cheng, how is the situation on the island?"
The cultivator named Miao Cheng respectfully replied, "Elder Chu, everything the Tang family left behind has been taken over by the Miao family. As per your instructions, we have not yet begun mining the veins."
The Miao family, to which Miao Cheng belonged, was evidently a Foundation Establishment family allied with Chu Lingyun. They followed his orders without question.
At this point, Song Wen began to piece together the situation.
There was likely some treasure hidden deep within the Decayed Bone Stone Mine, and it was this treasure that both Chu Lingyun and Cui Yan sought.
The Decayed Bone Stone Mine was part of Wu Ji Island and was originally managed by the Tang family.
If word of the treasure were to leak out and reach Wu Ji Island, Chu Lingyun and Cui Yan would lose their chance to claim it.
To obtain the treasure in secret, they needed to first seize control of the mine.
Therefore, after the appearance of the Nether Fire Ant disaster, Chu Lingyun secretly came to the mine, hoping to use the Nether Fire Ants to kill the Tang family's patriarch without anyone noticing.
By doing so, he could use the excuse of the Tang family's incompetence to have Wu Ji Island replace them with another family to oversee the mining of Decayed Bone Stone.
He could then push forward a Foundation Establishment family allied with him to take control of the mine.
However, Song Wen's interference, when he came to rescue Jing Kai, had disrupted these plans.
This forced Chu Lingyun to resort to more extreme measures, including slaughtering the entire Tang family.
Song Wen had initially believed that it was Chu Lingyun who personally wiped out the Tang family. Now, he suspected it could have been Cui Yan's doing.
This way, Wu Ji Island would not suspect Chu Lingyun if they investigated.
Having figured this out, Song Wen felt some concern for Jing Kai's safety.
Aside from Song Wen, who was an unknown figure, Jing Kai was the only person to have left Misty Island alive. Whether or not he knew the full details, Chu Lingyun would surely try to eliminate him.
Capturing Jing Kai and subjecting him to intense interrogation would reveal that it was the "Ji Yin" who saved him that night.
With this in mind, Song Wen felt a tightening in his chest.
"Could Chu Lingyun and Cui Yan already know that it was me who saved Jing Kai? Did they call me here to eliminate me? When they mentioned the third-grade alchemist who raises spirit bugs, were they testing me?"
Song Wen was uncertain, but his expression remained calm.
He glanced at Chu Lingyun and Cui Yan, yet could not detect any unusual signs on their faces.
"I will lead the group into the mine to deal with the Nether Fire Ants. You guard the entrance and make sure no one approaches."
Chu Lingyun instructed Miao Cheng.
He never mentioned the true identities of Song Wen and Cui Yan.
Then, he turned to Chu Qian and said, "You stay outside the mine as well."
After giving his orders, Chu Lingyun glanced at Cui Yan. Once he received a nod of approval, he was the first to leap into the deep pit.
Cui Yan followed closely behind.
Song Wen waited at the edge of the pit for a moment before he received a transmission from Cui Yan.
"Ji Yin, hurry up and follow us."
Song Wen had no choice but to jump into the pit.
The three of them reached the bottom of the pit, which connected to several large mining tunnels, each about ten feet high.
Song Wen felt uneasy but still tried to maintain a curious expression.
"Senior Cui, Daoist Chu, is there some treasure in this Decayed Bone Stone mine that's worth both of you coming here?"
Cui Yan responded coldly, "Knowing too much will not benefit you."
With that, he turned and entered one of the tunnels.
"Don't worry, Ji Yin. Just assist me and Senior Cui, and you won't be in any danger." Chu Lingyun reassured him.
Song Wen nodded and stepped into the mine tunnel where Cui Yan had entered.
The mine was intricate and maze-like.
After numerous twists and turns, the trio arrived at the section of the mine where Jing Kai had once been trapped.
During the journey, they encountered swarms of Nether Fire Ants, but Cui Yan dealt with them effortlessly.
The ground where Cui Yan stood was riddled with numerous holes, evidently left behind by the Nether Fire Ants' nesting activities.
He summoned a bone awl, about a foot long and triangular in shape.
The bone awl emanated black yin energy, filling the air with an icy and decayed aura.
As Cui Yan channeled his magic into it, the bone awl began spinning rapidly. The yin energy swirling around it formed into a dark vortex.
The vortex emitted a piercing, wailing sound, like the cries of malevolent spirits, sending chills down their spines.
With a sudden thrust, the bone awl pierced the ground beneath Cui Yan's feet.
The hard rock was instantly shredded, and the bone awl effortlessly drilled deep into the earth, leaving behind a hole half a yard wide.
"Let's go!" Cui Yan called out, leaping into the hole.
The trio descended dozens of feet before a dim, blue-lit cavern came into view.
It was a massive underground chamber, spanning tens of feet, filled with lava.
However, the lava wasn't the usual fiery red; instead, it glowed an eerie, ghostly blue.
Occasionally, tongues of flame would burst forth from the lava—these were Nether Flames, also blue in color.
Though not reaching the level of spirit flames, the Nether Flames filled the cavern with a thick, oppressive aura of malevolence.
This sinister energy seemed to erode one's spirit, making them feel uneasy and suffocated.
"What is that?"
Song Wen raised his hand, pointing toward the depths of the cavern.
There, a giant turtle floated in the lava.
Part of its shell and head were visible, while the rest remained submerged in the magma.
Even so, the exposed shell was as large as a house, resembling a massive reef amidst a sea of lava.
The giant turtle suddenly opened its mouth and inhaled sharply at a burst of Nether Flame emerging from the magma.
The ghostly blue flames instantly transformed into a slender blue streak and were swallowed by the turtle.
"Don't worry, that's a Nether Camel Turtle. It feeds on Nether Flames and is naturally docile. As long as you don't attack it, it won't harm you," Cui Yan explained.
Song Wen found it hard to believe as he stared at the flame-consuming giant turtle.
Such a colossal beast was actually docile?
This was a Tier Four demonic beast.
In its domain, if it were to go berserk, even Cui Yan might struggle to escape unscathed.
The Nether Camel Turtle merely glanced at the trio. Seemingly aware they posed no threat, it lost interest and ignored them.
Cui Yan took out a jade bottle containing the Hundred Flowers Detox Pills and distributed three to both Song Wen and Chu Lingyun.
"One pill can protect you from fire toxins for an hour."
After saying this, Cui Yan and Chu Lingyun each swallowed a pill.
Believing in his own refinement of the pills, Song Wen also consumed one without hesitation.
Under Cui Yan's guidance, the trio reached the edge of the cavern and descended along the rock wall, diving into the magma below.
The submerged rock wall was jet-black, faintly metallic in luster, and appeared exceptionally sturdy.
Song Wen activated his magical shield, watching as the ghostly blue lava flowed past.
The deeper they ventured, the stronger the sinister aura emanating from the magma became.
To maintain the integrity of his shield, Song Wen quickly depleted his magical energy. Chu Lingyun was in a similar state, while Cui Yan seemed unaffected, his energy expenditure minimal.
Fortunately, after descending a mere hundred feet, Cui Yan abruptly halted.
Embedded in the rock before him was a crystal the size of a fingernail.
The crystal was a deep purple, brimming with dense Yin energy.
