When the egg whites resemble cream – frothy like foam and they don’t drip off the chopstick – then it’s done.” Qin Xue thought that this was an easy task, as long as one was persistent and had enough strength.

“Okay, got it.” Qin Yu took in his sister’s instructions and started to beat the eggs.

Meanwhile, Qin Xue was preparing the batter for later. She had left some of the boiled milk aside which had cooled already. She then served it to the three children.

Qin Yu didn’t know that one could beat egg whites into a froth. But as he stirred rapidly and added the sugar bit by bit, the desired texture slowly showed up. However, it required quite a bit of work and would be difficult for someone without enough strength.

Qin Xue returned to the kitchen and saw that her brother had done quite well with the egg whites. That was good. They didn’t have an oven at home, so she was planning to make steamed cake. It would do for now.

Qin Xue added the well-beaten egg whites into the batter in two additions. Then, she poured everything into a large basin, stroking it up and down on the table a few times to work out the bubbles in the batter. Finally, she put it in the steamer for thirty minutes.

When Qin Xue took the milk to the children earlier, she placed the rest of the milk into a space where time flowed faster. That was because they needed it again in a short while and there wasn’t enough time for it to ferment naturally. She needed it for making cream, so she went back to the room and put the milk in the space.

While Qin Xue was steaming the cake, she also prepared breakfast. If they didn’t eat breakfast soon, it would be time for lunch. It was New Year’s Day and eating two meals was enough. They couldn’t delay any longer and had to start making the meal.

But where did Fang Xiu and Jing Xin go? Why haven’t they returned yet? Just as Qin Xue was wondering this, she saw the two she was thinking of walking in. Well, it seemed like they’ve made up. That’s good, saves her from worrying.
