Chapter 860: Chapter 860: Don’t Move, Stay With Me for a While
The car weaved through the bustling city center and returned to Rose Valley.
Catherine first went to the nursery to pick up Alice. The little girl hadn’t seen her mother all day. She rushed into her mother’s arms upon seeing Catherine, happily talking about her day. After finishing, she peeked out from Catherine’s embrace and, not seeing Benjamin, showed a hint of disappointment on her face, “Mommy, where is Uncle Benjamin?”
“Uncle Benjamin is busy,” Catherine replied somewhat evasively to her daughter.
Alice nodded understandingly, but couldn’t help asking again, “When will uncle be finished with his work? Alice misses uncle a bit.”
“Quite soon,” Catherine said, feeling uneasy as she heard her daughter’s words. She wondered if it was the bond of blood that had made Alice and Benjamin so close lately. Her daughter was growing increasingly fond of Benjamin, which not only made her anxious but also filled her with guilt. She hesitated over whether to tell Alice that Benjamin was her father.
Hearing her mother’s listless voice and noticing her pale face, Alice knew her mother must be very tired from work. She wisely stopped asking, climbed out of Catherine’s embrace, and took her hand, “Mommy, let’s go home.”
Seeing her daughter’s demeanor made Catherine’s nose sting with sadness, yet she did not know what to say. She could only nod and led her little girl out of the building’s property management office.
What she didn’t expect was to find Reed still waiting outside. Catherine was puzzled, “Mr. Reed, it’s not far from the villa; Alice and I can just walk back.”
“I’ll take you,” Reed insisted.
Catherine, not wanting to snub his kindness, took Alice’s hand and got into the car. What was strange was that Reed stopped the car at Benjamin’s house, and even stranger was that the lights in the man’s villa were on.
“Did Aunt Jones come?” Catherine asked Reed, puzzled.
“Miss Ford will know when she goes inside,” Reed replied vaguely, not sure how to answer her question.
Catherine had originally thought Benjamin was hospitalized today, and since Reed had refused her offer to visit the hospital, she didn’t plan to go to Benjamin’s villa, assuming she wouldn’t need to prepare dinner for him tonight. But Reed’s words didn’t seem to imply what she was thinking. Could it be that they planned to have her prepare the dinner first and then deliver it?
What do you think?
