Chapter 241 241: Tea
Margaret adjusted her dress in the mirror, making sure it showed just the right amount of cleavage. After all, Kimiko's "tea parties" had certain expectations.
[... Goodness, I look quite lewd, don't I?]
She'd picked out a deep purple number that hugged her curves perfectly. The kind of dress that said "responsible mother" right up until it hit the floor. Her breasts threatened to spill out with each movement, which was exactly how she liked it, and her stockings and high heels gave her outfit a bit of a Syux edge to it.
"Let's see... Hazel's asleep," she murmured to herself, going through her mental checklist. "Melistair's working late..."
A quick peek into Hazel's room confirmed her youngest was indeed passed out, clutching her stuffed dragon. Margaret smiled, remembering how Melisa had saved up to buy that toy for her sister a few years ago.
Her lips curled into a satisfied smile as she returned to her preparations.
The last "tea party" had been particularly memorable. Who knew the merchant guild's wives were so... adventurous? Especially that redhead with the talented fingers.
[And here I thought I didn't have it anymore. Getting railed in fancy dresses might just be my new favorite hobby~]
She checked her makeup one last time. Perfect. Kimiko would definitely approve, and probably show that approval in very physical ways.
[Wonder if she'll bring out those enchanted toys again...]
Just as she grabbed her purse, ready to head out for another night of "socializing," someone knocked at the door.
[Oh, that must be Kimiko. I swear, I told her I'd walk tonight, though.]
But when she opened it, she found Melisa standing there instead.
Her daughter's tail was drooping, her expression somewhere between frustrated and lost. Her clothes were rumpled too, like she'd been running her hands through them nervously.
Even her horns looked sad somehow.
[Oh dear. That's her 'the world is complicated and I need mom' face.]
"Come in, sweetie." Margaret ushered her inside, already knowing her plans for the evening were about to change. Sure, maybe she wouldn't be getting dicked just yet, but her girl needed her. "What's wrong?"
They settled in the living room, Margaret trying simultaneously to make sure she was putting on a calming, motherly aura while trying her hardest not to imagine what Kimiko was doing right now.
[Focus, Margaret. Your daughter needs motherly wisdom, not for you to be horny right now... Even if she does enjoy you in that way as well.]
"The speech sucked," Melisa said finally, curling up on the couch. "Well, the speech itself was fine, but then there was an attack, and now Aria's talking about possible restrictions on nim, and-"
"Whoa whoa, Mel, dear, slow down. What happened?"
Sighing dramatically, Melisa slowly began to talk again.
Margaret listened as Melisa explained everything - the attack, the revelation about pheromone control, the conversation with Aria. With each word, her daughter's tail drooped lower, until it was practically wrapped around her ankles.
"Oh, honey." She pulled Melisa close, stroking her hair. "You can't change an entire city overnight... Not even with that talented tongue of yours."
"Mom!"
[Okay, well, I'm still horny. I was bound to say something like that. May as well get it out of my system.]
"What? It's true." Margaret smiled, remembering some of their more intimate moments. "Look, let me tell you something," Margaret said, settling back against the couch. "I know you want to fix everything. But our experience isn't universal. We've been lucky, living with Javir all these years."
[Even if some of those early days were rough...]
Melisa's brow furrowed.
"What do you mean?"
"Think about it, sweetie. We've had a roof over our heads, food on the table, and a powerful mage protecting us." Margaret's tail curled thoughtfully. "But other nim? Some are still slaves. Others can barely afford to eat. Even the 'free' ones often live in fear."
"That doesn't justify attacking innocent people," Melisa protested.
"No, it doesn't," Margaret agreed, squeezing her daughter's hand. "But... It probably is going to be messy. When people who've been powerless suddenly find power... Wouldn't you expect them to get carried away at least once or twice?"
Melisa looked away.
"I guess. But..."
"Again, I'm not saying I agree with those attacks, dear. But, if you ask me, some growing pains are inevitable. Not right, but inevitable."
"So what am I supposed to do? Just let it happen?"
Margaret chuckled.
"Since when has my daughter ever 'just let' anything happen? No, you keep doing what you're doing. I'm just saying, I would be very surprised if you solved centuries of problems overnight."
"Even with my... special talents?" Melisa asked with a small smirk.
[That's my girl. Always finding a way to lighten the mood.]
"Even with those," Margaret smiled. "Though they certainly don't hurt."
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment. Then Melisa's eyes narrowed, finally taking in her mother's appearance.
"Wait." She sat up straighter. "Why are you dressed like that?"
Margaret's blooming grin could only be described as wicked.
"Oh, you know." She stretched, making her breasts strain against the fabric even more. "Just heading to one of Kimiko's... tea parties."
"Tea parties." Melisa's face went through several interesting expressions. "Right, right, that's what we're calling them."
"Indeed." Margaret winked. "Want to come along?"
"MOM!"
"What? You wouldn't see anything we haven't done already."
Melisa buried her face in her hands, but not before Margaret caught her grin.

{Melisa}
Morning light filtered through the dorm window as Melisa stretched, careful not to wake Raven sleeping beside her. Her girlfriend had waited up until she'd returned last night, pretending to read but she had clearly just been worried.
"Mmm." Raven stirred anyway, her grey eyes fluttering open. "You're up early."
"Yeah, couldn't sleep much." Melisa leaned down to kiss her. "Sorry I worried you last night."
"I wasn't worried." Raven's deadpan delivery was somewhat undermined by how she pulled Melisa closer. "I just... Couldn't help but wonder if someone had tried to assassinate you. Again."
[Who knew a cold-blooded assassin could be this cute of a girlfriend?]
"No one did, no one did," Melisa grinned. "Want breakfast?"
"You should probably get some sleep first. Then breakfast." Raven said, though instead of giving Melisa the space to get comfortable, she put her head in Melisa's chest.
"Hm?"
"... I wasn't sure if I was going to have to stab someone. I'm glad I don't."
[Adorable AND murderous. I really know how to pick them.]
The conversation with her mother last night came flooding back as Melisa stroked Raven's hair. Sure, she and Margaret had their... moments. Quite a few of them, actually. But watching her get railed by random noble friends of Kimiko's?
[Yeah, no. There are some lines even I'm not ready to cross... yet.]
The newspaper had already been slipped under their door. As soon as she noticed it, Melisa carefully extracted herself from Raven's grip and padded over to retrieve it, her tail curling in anticipation.
Sure enough, there it was on the front page:
"CHAOS AT SYUX ACADEMY - Nim Attackers Breach Security."
[Great. Just great. Because that's exactly what we needed - more fear-mongering.]
She skimmed the article, noting how it conveniently failed to mention the human conspirators involved. The whole thing painted it as a nim-only attack, despite the fact that the most perplexing part of the whole ordeal was the fact that some part of security had been in on it.
Melisa couldn't say she was surprised though.
[Of course they'd spin it that way.]
Still, all she could do was get back in bed.
---
Soon, getting dressed for class, Melisa tried to focus on positive thoughts. Maybe it wouldn't be that bad. Maybe people would be reasonable.
That hope lasted until she stepped into the hallway.
Two human students were walking ahead of her. They glanced back, saw her, and immediately quickened their pace.
[Really? We've been classmates for how long now?]
More whispers followed her down the corridors. Some students openly moved away when she passed. Others just stared, like they expected her to suddenly sprout fangs and attack.
"I heard they can control minds now..."
"My father says they're all dangerous..."
"Should they even be allowed here anymore?"
"Did you see what they did to Lord Brunswick? Set his whole head on fire..."
[Wow. It's like all my progress just... poof. Gone overnight.]
She caught sight of Claire up ahead, surprisingly. The blonde was arguing with another student.
"The statistical probability of every nim being involved in this conspiracy is astronomically low," Claire was saying, gesturing emphatically. "Your xenophobia is clouding your logical reasoning capabilities."
[... Thanks? I think? Did I just get off on the wrong foot with this girl or what?]
A group of younger students scurried past, practically plastering themselves against the wall to avoid her.
[Great. Now I feel like some kind of monster. Maybe I should've gone to that tea party after all - at least there everyone's too busy getting fucked to be prejudiced.]
Melisa squared her shoulders and kept walking. She'd changed minds before. She could do it again.
Even if right now, it felt like swimming against a very strong, very prejudiced current.
What do you think?
