Chapter 3 - I Can Love My Country Too!
Chapter 3 I Can Love My Country Too!
Reorganizing the underworld forces of Hong Kong Island!
If anyone else had said these words, the leaders of the major gangs on Hong Kong Island would have burst into loud laughter.
After laughing, they would have spat on the ground and asked, “Who do you think you are?”
But the person who said it now was Lei Luo. At that moment, all the leaders of the various gangs in the room suddenly went silent.
Some exchanged glances, while others looked toward the four major gangs at the main table. The ever-smiling Pig Oil Boy and Alo’s wife, who had been carefree all evening, were both puzzled, as they hadn’t been informed about this matter beforehand.
As for Ah Hao, sitting at the main table, his smile stiffened before turning even brighter. But in his slightly squinting eyes, a fierce and cold light flickered, like a hungry wolf.
The leader of Yianhui, Yan, remained unmoved like a mountain, slowly putting down his cigar. Meanwhile, the leaders of the Digital Gang and He Sheng furrowed their brows in confusion.
“Brother Luo, everything was going fine. Why the sudden reorganization?”
The first to speak was Li Tai, the leader of the Digital Gang. The others all turned to Alo, eager to know his reasoning.
“I know some of you have been in contact with the British or other higher-ups.”
“I’ll be straightforward with you all.”
“The high-ups in Hong Kong Island are about to change, and they want to arrange some of their own people.”
As soon as Alo’s words left his mouth, the entire hall fell silent, and the atmosphere grew tense. In truth, he hadn’t received any notifications from anyone.
The claim about the British having new arrangements was just a lie he had made up on the spot. However, this wasn’t entirely untrue—it was just that the timing was off. The reborn Alo was fully aware of what was to come.
The British high-ups, in order to maintain balance, would never allow him to dominate alone. By saying this now, he immediately caused many people with ulterior motives to stiffen.
If this had been the old Alo, he would never have done this. Instead, he would have tried to win over the people under him before the British took any action.
But now, things were different. Alo had bound himself to the nation. This group of scum would be better off dying early and moving on. Rather than waiting for them to plot and gather their strength, it was better for him to ignite the fire and clean them out completely.
Of course, how to blow things up, and where to start, would require careful planning. That was also the reason why he had planned to announce this only after a few days.
At this point, the atmosphere at the banquet had completely dissipated. Everyone stood up, bid farewell to Alo, and began to leave.
“Brother Luo…”
Ah Hao was the last to leave. Before leaving, he tried to get some hints from Alo. But Alo just nodded at him and said nothing more. Seeing this, Ah Hao had no choice but to leave disgruntled.
After a lively day, things finally quieted down near midnight. Alo’s wife seemed to want to say something but hesitated, only to be dismissed with a gesture from Alo.
“You should go rest, I’ll be staying in Kowloon tonight.”
“Alright, just don’t overwork yourself.”
“Don’t worry, I’m just going to handle some business, nothing else.”
When Alo’s wife heard that he was going to Kowloon, her expression stiffened for a moment. But Alo quickly explained and reassured her. After that, she didn’t ask further questions and left.
Once everyone had left, Alo sat in the restaurant for a while. At 1 AM, Pig Oil Boy finally returned to the restaurant.
“Brother Luo, the 2 AM boat, Kwai Chung Pier, I found out that Huo Dong is coming back tonight.”
“Let’s go.”
Without any unnecessary conversation, Alo immediately stood up, and Pig Oil Boy drove him to the pier. At this time, Hong Kong Island was far from being as bustling as it would be in Alo’s later life, it was pitch dark at night, and the streetlights flickered on and off.
Only when they passed through the central area did they see some light in the distance. Arriving at the pier just around 2 AM, a freighter slowly docked. The crane started unloading goods, and the long-waiting dock workers quickly moved forward.
A group of people disembarked from the freighter, with a lean man at the forefront. After they stepped down, a distant light lit up at the edge of the pier, and a car slowly drove over.
The people behind the man took a few steps forward, positioning themselves protectively around him. Their stance, movements, and eyes all revealed a sense of elite training. Sitting in the car, Alo immediately recognized them as military personnel!
The car eventually turned a corner in front of the man, exposing its full body. The rear window slowly lowered, revealing half of Alo’s face.
“Huo Dong, do you have time to talk?”
The man was Huo Dong. Upon hearing Alo’s voice, he froze for a moment. He bent slightly and looked at the car window. Seeing Alo’s face, a look of surprise and suspicion appeared on his face.
Why was the underground emperor of Hong Kong Island, a man with power over both the legal and illegal worlds, suddenly here waiting for him?
He was in the shipping business, rarely interacting with other people on Hong Kong Island, let alone Alo. Their relationship was limited to sending gifts during festivals.
Due to his connections with mainland China, he had always been subtly excluded from the Hong Kong business world. The British high-ups were constantly looking for ways to catch him in a trap. So, he had always been cautious in his actions.
But now, Alo had come personally, and he had no choice but to respond. And clearly, refusing Alo was not a wise decision.
“What’s the matter that you’ve come all the way here, Brother Luo?”
“If you had your people give me a call, I would have come to visit you myself.”
Hearing Huo Dong’s words, Pig Oil Boy smiled, got out of the car, and opened the door.
Alo, leaning on the armrest with his chin, kept his gaze fixed on the unloading freighter. He didn’t speak, but the more he stayed silent, the greater the pressure Huo Dong felt. He waved his hand to signal his bodyguards to step back, then got in the car and sat beside Alo.
There was only a handrest between them, and they could clearly smell each other’s scents. Alo’s scent was of thick cigars, while Huo Dong’s had a hint of salt from the sea.
The car was now left with only Alo and Huo Dong. Pig Oil Boy wisely stepped away. Huo Dong also signaled his men to move farther back.
“Who’s your contact on the mainland? The Lao Ye family, or someone from the capital?”
In the quiet car, Alo’s first question made Huo Dong break into a cold sweat!
He suddenly turned to look at Alo, only to see Alo still looking out the window, his demeanor calm.
“Your homeland just fought a tough battle; it’s a difficult time.”
“I have 50 million HKD here. Help me exchange it for supplies and send it to them.”
Alo finally shifted his gaze from the window, looking at the stunned Huo Dong. Clearly, his words had a huge impact on Huo Dong!
50 million HKD was something Alo could give away with ease—only someone like Lei Luo could do this on Hong Kong Island at this time. Huo Dong swallowed hard, unsure how to respond…
Until Alo lit another cigar and took a puff, then said, “You love your country.”
“I can love my country too.”
What do you think?
