Chapter 18 Balancing Between Both Sides, the Fangs Begin to Show

Blue Steel, baring his teeth, stood before the senior officials and swore an oath of responsibility. Just as he had been full of pride in front of Sang Gou and Ayao, now he was in a much more awkward position.

As for his assurances, the senior officials exchanged glances and weren’t particularly impressed. However, since Blue Steel was someone they had promoted, and given that he had done decently with previous matters, it would be inappropriate to remove him immediately.

In the end, the Commissioner of Police accepted his oath and instructed him to immediately handle the situation. Once Blue Steel left, the Commissioner of Police turned to James.

“Dear James, go visit Lei Luo on our behalf.”

“We need to prepare for both outcomes.”

“If the higher-ups are dissatisfied, we’ll have Blue Steel take the blame and bring Lei Luo back.”

The others nodded in agreement with the Commissioner’s plan. When it came to political maneuvering, these British-born individuals were experts. At the very least, when it came to the art of passing the buck, they were all masters.

After the meeting, James left the police station and headed for Yang He Hospital. As for Blue Steel, after leaving the office, he immediately summoned all the heads of the districts. Just as the higher-ups had scolded him in the office, now he was doing the same to others!

Even the detectives Yan and Han, who were of the same rank, weren’t spared from his reprimands.

“I don’t care about your reasons, everyone get moving immediately!”

“All those drug addicts causing trouble, arrest them and send them to rehab!”

“If there’s not enough space in the rehab, send them to jail! If there’s still not enough room, let the gangs find a place to hold them!”

“I’ll give you two days, just two days!”

“If you can’t handle it in two days, I’ll make sure no one leaves this place!”

After leaving these harsh words, Blue Steel left first. He was anxious to figure out how much inventory the Digital Gang still had!

Blue Steel knew very well that once drug addicts went into withdrawal, they were no longer human. For years, under the tacit approval of the higher-ups, drug use had almost run rampant in the underground of Hong Kong Island. No one really knew how many people were addicted. He needed to give those people some hope.

As long as there was hope, those people could retain their sanity and remain controllable. If necessary, it could also be used to divide and recruit a group to strike at another.

“Next, he should go to the Digital Gang to check the inventory.”

“Then, the Digital Gang will collect the remaining stock from the other gangs in the market.”

“Zhu Youzi, go find Xiang Yan and tell him it’s time to take action.”

“The Yi An Society must have people planted in the Digital Gang. Find the inventory and burn it.”

“Once all the goods are gone, Blue Steel won’t be able to control the situation, and the police will be directly tied up.”

Right now, the police force was focused on capturing drug addicts, while also trying to maintain order in the market.

In such a situation, they would be unable to manage the various gangs. If the actions were quick enough, they could reclaim their territories before the police could react. It was even possible to cripple the Digital Gang once again.

In the VIP room of Yang He Hospital, Alo was reclining on the sofa as he spoke. Zhu Youzi, listening nearby, was both nervous and curious but still agreed to the plan.

Since Alo was shot until now, it felt as if he was in the midst of a storm. He had witnessed Alo’s masterful manipulation of the Hong Kong Island police, Blue Steel, and the major gangs behind the scenes.

And now, he still didn’t know how Alo was going to bring this entire drama to a close. It was clear that the situation had gotten somewhat out of control. However, seeing Alo remain so calm and composed, Zhu Youzi also suppressed his own doubts.

This time, Alo had managed to wipe out nearly all the drugs on the market. He had deliberately used this momentum to cleanse the rampant drug situation.

Although, in present-day Hong Kong Island, it was impossible to completely eradicate it, he was cleaning up as much as he could while also keeping himself out of the picture. Soon after Zhu Youzi left, the door opened again. This time, it was James.

Seeing Alo’s healthy condition, James was visibly surprised.

“Oh my God, dear Luo, you look completely fine!”

He quickly approached Alo and checked him from top to bottom. After confirming that Alo was indeed unharmed, James continued to marvel in disbelief.

“Tell me, Lei, how did you recover so quickly?”

“Heh, just some ancient Eastern medicine, with a bit of luck on top of that.”

Alo casually attributed his recovery to traditional Chinese medicine. After all, foreigners always found Eastern medicine mysterious. Upon hearing about the Eastern method, James nodded as if everything made sense. He then relayed the Commissioner’s arrangement to Alo.

After working together twice, James and Alo had developed a good relationship, so there was no need for secrets between them.

“Don’t worry, James. As long as I’m here, the sky over Hong Kong Island won’t change.”

Alo handed James a cigar, smiling as he spoke.

Such a bold statement in front of the colonial officials would be considered outrageous. However, James didn’t think anything of it and actually accepted it with ease.

The same words, when spoken by different people, had entirely different effects. Blue Steel might think it was nonsense, but when Lei Luo said it, James believed it without hesitation. But today, James came to see Lei Luo for more than just this matter. He was also concerned about their business.

The batch of medicine that Lei Luo’s wife had purchased had already arrived in Japan Island. However, due to the recent events in Hong Kong and Lei Luo’s shooting, James hadn’t had time to ask about it. Now that he saw Lei Luo was unharmed, he immediately asked about the business.

“Don’t worry, James.”

“The medicine has already been arranged for transport. It should be ready for trading soon.”

“There’s just a bit of trouble; if we want to make this a long-term business, we’ll need to improve the process.”

Hearing Alo’s words, James awkwardly chuckled. The reason it was so complicated, and why they had to send the goods to Japan Island first before rerouting them, was because of their doubts. After all, Alo was Chinese, and they wouldn’t easily trust him.

If Alo were like Huo Dong, supporting Xia Guo, this would be the last transaction. But if it was a normal business deal, then the situation would be different.

“Don’t worry. As long as you make money this time, I’ll talk to my mother.”

“After that, we’ll truly become partners, and the purchase price will be cut in half.”

With the purchase price reduced, there would be no need to talk about intermediary fees and kickbacks. James gave Alo a knowing look, and the two of them laughed together.

Meanwhile, on a port in Japan Island, Huo Dong, wearing a mask, was overseeing his men as they repackaged the medicines on the ship. The medicines were stuffed into clothes with pockets sewn into them, and the boxes contained some expired snacks. They moved back and forth on several ships, transferring all the repackaged drugs…
