Chapter 14 - Kowloon Walled City? Just do it!

Chapter 14 Kowloon Walled City? Just do it!

When first entering Kowloon Walled City, people are often overwhelmed by the foul stench. This is because there are no proper sanitation facilities, and waste is disposed of by using chamber pots that are emptied into small drainage channels.

These tiny drains handle the waste of 50,000 people, frequently getting clogged up. The dim lighting flickers, and flies and mosquitoes swarm around. Walking here, an umbrella is a must-have item.

Xiang Yan took out a handkerchief to cover his nose, his brows furrowed so tightly that he could crush a mosquito. Behind him were the Hong Gangs of the Yian Association, and behind them were several vigilant young men.

The one whom Alo had hosted was there among them, walking at the back. He walked, mentally combining the map and the surroundings before him.

The roads in the Walled City were labyrinthine, with countless winding alleyways. Even long-term residents could easily get lost. But the young man had remembered the instructions from Zhu Youzi and focused only on key landmarks.

With those landmarks in mind, finding the general direction made the journey easy. They moved forward and eventually arrived at the central courtyard of the Walled City. Originally, this was the Qing Dynasty government office in Hong Kong, but now it had become the headquarters of the Walled City under the control of Uncle Jiu and his faction.

All the doors of the government office were open, and everyone of note in the Walled City had gathered there. Just as Xiang Yan arrived, Li Tai also entered from another direction.

“Welcome, please come in,” said a man wearing black hemp trousers, stepping forward to invite the people from the Yian Association and the Digital Gang inside.

Once inside the large room, they saw an elderly man sitting on a redwood chair at the far end of the hall. He held a smoking pipe in one hand, with one foot resting on the chair in a half-lotus sitting posture.

When he saw Li Tai and Xiang Yan enter, the elderly man merely nodded slightly.

“Uncle Jiu,” Xiang Yan and Li Tai both greeted him, then moved to sit on either side.

There were two rows of chairs set up, allowing both parties to sit. The elderly man, Uncle Jiu, the head of the Walled City’s power, smiled and had someone serve tea.

“Kowloon Walled City has never concerned itself with external matters,” he began.

“Here, no one would dare ambush you, nor would they even think of doing such a thing.”

“I am the host, so let’s sit down and have a proper talk.”

Hearing Uncle Jiu’s words, Li Tai spoke first. He immediately brought up the rules of the underworld, stating that Lei Luo’s actions had violated the rules and set a bad precedent.

“If this continues, the Hong Kong underworld will lose its independence, and they’ll all become dogs,” he said.

“Xiang Lao Da, you and I have a history,” he continued.

“Even if Lei Luo has some ties with your Yian Association, does that mean you’ll just obediently follow him?”

“I don’t mind giving up Kowloon, but tomorrow, I’ll send a big gift to Lei Luo. Can I ask him to hand over Causeway Bay to me?”

Li Tai, younger than Xiang Yan, spoke with an aggressive tone.

Upon hearing this, Xiang Yan only sneered and took a sip of tea.

“Since you, Ah Tai, are so dissatisfied, why didn’t you oppose it that night?”

Mentioning that night, Li Tai’s expression immediately became uncomfortable. Uncle Jiu looked at him curiously. Lan Gang had come to speak with him before and mentioned Lei Luo’s arrogance.

But to Uncle Jiu, no matter how arrogant Lei Luo was, could he really scare someone like Li Tai, who had experienced countless dangers?

In fact, unless someone had experienced that night firsthand, they wouldn’t understand how terrifying Lei Luo was. It was like being targeted by a ferocious tiger, with the terrifying feeling that you would be devoured at any moment. Even now, Li Tai still felt a twinge of fear when he remembered it.

“Xiang Lao Da, let’s not talk about that.”

“We’re both straightforward men, and the Digital Gang can back down, but our businesses won’t leave.”

“No problem, I’ll allow you to keep them,” Xiang Yan agreed, not wanting to escalate the conflict with the Digital Gang.

A few gambling dens, smoke houses, and brothels weren’t something he cared about. With both of the gang leaders leading the way, the negotiation proceeded smoothly, with both sides exchanging benefits.

Uncle Jiu watched the harmonious atmosphere and felt very satisfied. At his age, what he valued most was reputation. Tonight, the two biggest gangs in Hong Kong—the Yian Association and the Digital Gang—were negotiating in his Walled City.

Word of this would spread, and his name would be even more famous. The negotiation lasted over an hour, with Li Tai making more concessions than Xiang Yan. During the process, many people from the Walled City quietly left their rooms.

All of them had serious expressions, and some were carrying weapons. They passed by several groups of people from the Walled City, but no one paid them any mind. Finally, a man dressed in hemp clothes emerged and gathered everyone together.

“Yao Ge, all our people are here,” he said to the leader of the armed group.

This man was the second-in-command of the Walled City, always overshadowed by Uncle Jiu.

The people in front of him were from the Digital Gang, secretly placed in the Walled City. Li Tai and Lan Gang had been planning to cooperate with the Walled City, but the target of the cooperation wasn’t Uncle Jiu—it was him!

Yao turned back and spat on the ground.

“There are two hours left until 10 o’clock. Once the time’s up, we’ll act.”

“We’ll take down the old man, and I’ll lead the Walled City to join forces with your Digital Gang. The Yian Association will be nothing!”

“Once we’ve wiped out the Yian Association, Lei Luo will have no choice but to come to the Walled City and pay his respects!”

Yao sneered as he took the dagger handed to him by one of his subordinates and hid it behind his waist. Meanwhile, outside the former government office, Uncle Jiu was smiling as he sent Xiang Yan and Li Tai out the door.

After they bade their farewells, Li Tai suddenly invited Xiang Yan to walk a bit further.

When Xiang Yan joined him, Li Tai lowered his voice.

“Xiang Lao Da, how about we cooperate and trigger an explosion in the Walled City to cause trouble for Lei Luo?”

Upon hearing this, Xiang Yan was shocked, nearly stumbling. The young man from the Yian Association, who had been following not far behind, suddenly looked up.

Bang!

The young man fired a shot, and Li Tai’s head exploded in a burst of blood!

The hot blood splattered on Xiang Yan’s face.

Before he could react, the young man fired another shot!

This time, it was Uncle Jiu, standing at the door, who took the bullet to the head!

“Boss! The Digital Gang has ambushed us, and they’ve allied with the Walled City to try to kill you here!”

The young man’s voice echoed loudly through the courtyard. Outside, Yao was momentarily stunned, but his expression quickly turned vicious.

“You bastards betrayed me!”

Yao grabbed the collar of a Digital Gang member beside him, only to see that the man was equally stunned. Suddenly, there was a sharp noise from the back, as an iron plate was torn open. The people inside the courtyard and those outside were about to face each other head-on!
