Chapter 274: Chapter 274: Return to 20 Years Ago (9)

The parents were discussing matters in the living room with their aunt while Ji Tingyang took Ji Lanyue upstairs.

“Luckily, Dad was busy; otherwise, I would have been scolded again.” Ji Lanyue let out a sigh of relief, grateful as she entered her room.

The moment she pushed the door open, she saw a boy sitting on her bed, fiddling with her teddy bear.

The bear was being distorted under his abuse, its body misshapen.

Ji Lanyue’s expression changed and she immediately went forward to snatch back her teddy bear, “Don’t touch my things!”

“It’s just a bear, what’s the big deal with playing with it for a bit?” The boy said nonchalantly, picking up a duck plushy from her bed.

“These are all my things; you’re not allowed to touch them!” Ji Lanyue angrily tried to take back the duck.

She had disliked this cousin since she was little, as he always liked to mess with their stuff whenever he came over. He had taken her older brother’s tablet before and later damaged her second brother’s racing car model; now, he had come to wreck her dolls.

She pulled on the duck’s neck to take it back, but Wu Yanghui held onto the duck’s legs firmly. During the deadlock, the seams suddenly split open, revealing the cotton inside.

“Ah!” Ji Lanyue screamed, coming over and hitting him with her clenched fists, “You broke my duck, pay me back for the duck!”

“It’s just a broken toy; here, I’m giving it back to you,” Wu Yanghui clicked his tongue, and tossed the duck onto the ground.

Ji Lanyue’s eyes reddened, her lips pressed tightly, suppressing the emotions inside her.

She went over and picked up the duck, her soft voice tinged with a sob, “This was given to me by Mom…”

It was at this moment that Ji Tingyang and Ji Zeqiu rushed into the room and saw their sister’s red eyes as they entered.

“What’s wrong?” Ji Tingyang asked.

Seeing her brothers approaching, Ji Lanyue suddenly found the courage to run into Ji Tingyang’s arms and burst into tears, “Wu wu wu… Cousin broke my duck…”

Ji Tingyang raised his head and only then noticed there was someone else in the room.

When he saw Wu Yanghui, his eyebrows knotted tightly and his tone was not very friendly, “What are you doing here?”

“Of course, I came with my mom. She said she had to discuss something with Uncle and told me to look around,” Wu Yanghui said.

“Aren’t the living room and backyard downstairs enough for you to wander around? What are you doing in my sister’s room? Don’t you know there should be a distinction between men and women!” Ji Zeqiu’s anger surged at the sight of Wu Yanghui acting innocent, pulling him up from the bed.

He hadn’t yet settled the score for the damaged racing car model, and now here he was, causing trouble in his sister’s room.

“She’s just a kid, not even fully grown yet; what distinction are you talking about?” Wu Yanghui grinned, seemingly unconcerned.

Ji Zeqiu’s clenched fists tightened, and just as he was almost unable to restrain himself from smashing that face, he heard Ji Tingyang calling out his name.

“Ji Zeqiu.”

Ji Zeqiu clenched his teeth, the emotions inside him slowly cooled down, and he let go of his grip.

After pondering for a moment, Ji Tingyang bent down and whispered a few words in Ji Lanyue’s ear.

Ji Lanyue’s round eyes turned, and in the next instant, tears welled up again as she clutched the little duck and ran out.

“Wu wu wu… Daddy…”

Her crying grew louder, echoing throughout the entire villa.

Before Ji Yanli could finish his conversation, he heard his daughter’s heart-wrenching cries growing from distant to near, until finally, she threw herself into his embrace, her tears soaking the front of his shirt.

“What’s wrong?” Ji Yanli gently soothed her back.

“My cousin came into my room and broke the little duck Mommy gave me.” Lanyue’s shoulders trembled as she sobbed heart-wrenchingly.

Ji Yanli’s brow furrowed.

The woman’s face turned stern upon hearing this, and as Wu Yanghui came down from upstairs, she quickly rose to her feet and slapped the man.

“How could you tamper with your sister’s things and even break them?” she chided Wu Yanghui while pretending to hit him.

“It’s just a toy, what’s the big deal…” Wu Yanghui hadn’t finished speaking when his arm was twisted fiercely.

“Don’t cry, Lanyue,” said the woman, as she turned to smile at Lanyue. “Aunt will buy you a new toy.”

Lanyue glanced at Ji Tingyang not too far away, her mouth puckered, and she continued crying to Ji Yanli, “I don’t want any other dolls, that one was from Mommy, I just want that one wuwuwu…”

“Okay, let’s have Mommy buy you another one later,” Ji Yanli passed a tissue and wiped the tears from her face.

Then he turned to the woman with a cold face, “We have other matters at home today, so we won’t keep you for dinner.”

When the woman heard he wanted her to leave, her face stiffened, “I was just telling you…”

“I won’t lend you that money, not now, nor in the future,” Ji Yanli’s eyes were dark and steeped in a cool menace, “If there’s nothing important in the future, don’t come to see me, especially since you yourself said you wanted to break off ties with me.”

Though after their parents passed away, he had lived with his sister, it was mostly him looking after her, while she even used the money from his part-time jobs to go on dates with her boyfriend.

Perhaps worried that having an extra burden would deter men from wanting to be with her, she declared a cut of ties with him when Ji Yanli was in high school, stating they would no longer associate with each other.

And yet, when she saw him start a company and make money, she found a way to contact him again and asked to borrow a significant amount.

He had given it to her.

However, after he was reborn and saw the woman living lavishly off his inheritance, yet unwilling to take extra care of his three children, the last bit of familial affection in his heart had snapped.

Upon hearing this, the woman’s face instantly became ugly, “I was just angry at that time, you can’t take it seriously, we are relatives related by blood, I…”

Ji Tingyang didn’t bother to keep listening to her, he said “The butler will see you out” and then rose to go upstairs.

“Miss Ji, this way please,” the butler gestured invitingly.

“I’m not leaving, I haven’t finished talking, get out of my way,” the woman shoved the butler aside.

“Miss Ji, you wouldn’t want me to call security to escort you out, right? That wouldn’t look good for anyone,” the butler said, squinting and smiling.

The woman paused, and at last, stormed off furiously, dragging Wu Yanghui out of the villa.

Seeing the retreating backs of her aunt and cousin, Lanyue’s eyes brimmed with a touch of triumph, and she ran happily to Ji Tingyang’s side, “Big brother, you were so right, Daddy really sent them away.”

Thinking that her cousin would never come to their house again, Lanyue smiled brightly.
