Chapter 31 - 31 31 Grade 3 Ascending to a Higher Position
Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Grade 3 Ascending to a Higher Position Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Grade 3 Ascending to a Higher Position “After my father died, I stopped having any contact with ‘that side,'” Ye Yuli said, referring to Ye Xianghua.
“Why?” Tang Yu listened intently.
“The woman Ye Xianghua married in his second marriage was a mistress who took over, indirectly causing the death of Ye Sihan’s mother. My mother and Ye Sihan’s mother were close friends; they wouldn’t even bother to invite her due to their disdain.”
Tang Yu was shocked. Mistress? Her mother?
“What about… Ye Sihan? How is his relationship with the family?”
“Ye Sihan has long since broken off relations with his father, he could hardly wait to see that woman dead.”
“Could it… be a misunderstanding?” Tang Yu’s heartbeat became irregular with anxiety.
“How could there be a misunderstanding about something that everyone knows about?”
The truth made Tang Yu’s heart panic, and her fingers curled up uneasily beneath the table until they turned white.
“So concerned about him?”
Regaining her composure, Tang Yu met Ye Yuli’s cold gaze and knew the ‘he’ he referred to was Ye Sihan.
Why be so sarcastic?
Ye Sihan didn’t know she was Yu Zhaohui’s daughter, and it was highly likely that Yuli didn’t know either.
Perhaps the only person who knew was Lin Shuhuan, which explained why she did everything to stop her from getting close to the Ye brothers.
“Just curious,” Tang Yu said ambiguously. Then, with a troubled expression, she looked at him, “You’re engaged now; it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with you, does it?”
Yuli’s eyes darkened, and he averted his gaze to the tabletop, remaining silent.
Tang Yu did not want to talk to him either; she wanted to leave right there and then.
It was only when the dishes were served that Tang Yu noticed what had been ordered, and familiar memories resurfaced in her mind.
Many of the dishes were her favorites.
Because in the past, when she dined with Yuli, she would mention what she liked, and he would often order those dishes.
Now Yuli, a man who was engaged and soon to be another’s husband, why did he order these items again?
Was it habit? Or just pity for her?
This didn’t touch Tang Yu; instead, it felt like an insult.
So during the meal, she didn’t touch the dishes she once liked and instead focused on eating a small plate of coriander non-stop.
“I remember you don’t like coriander,” Yuli said indifferently.
“People always change.”
“Do you hate me?” Yuli’s gaze was heavy as he looked at her.
“Just over a man? Hardly worth it. It’s all in the past; there’s nothing to talk about,” Tang Yu asserted carelessly, though she was well aware of the pain. The sting of betrayal had once driven her to get drunk in a bar and even to sleep with a Male Escort, resulting in a child. To claim there was no hatred would be a lie to herself. Something crossed her mind and she asked, “When did Ye Sihan cut ties with the Ye Family?”
“Just after he came of age.”
Tang Yu held the teacup in front of her, using the act of drinking tea to conceal the complex emotions and heaviness in her heart.
So Ye Sihan had been out on his own since his teens. Had he started working as a Male Escort then? After all, he would need money to continue studying…
Tang Yu couldn’t imagine what sort of feelings one must have when confronted with such a situation at that age.
And the person responsible for Ye Sihan’s tragic circumstances was her own mother, Yu Zhaohui.
No, no, no, she couldn’t take one side’s word for it.
Her mother wasn’t that kind of person.
In her memories since childhood, her mother was always very kind and understanding.
“Do you like Ye Sihan?” Yuli asked, looking directly at her.
Tang Yu gave him a cold glare, not bothering to respond, “Is that any of your business?”
Yuli leaned back, appearing nonchalant, “You wouldn’t be getting close to Ye Sihan because of me, would you? If that’s true, I could always cancel the engagement. After all, it’s just an engagement for now.”
Tang Yu was at a loss for words. What was this person treating a marriage arrangement as? Child’s play?
Just as she was about to say something, she felt a strong and oppressive presence closing in around her.
Even her back involuntarily stiffened.
It was as if a chill had crept up her spine.
About to turn around to look behind her, her hand was grabbed by Ye Yuli, “Did you hear what I said?”
Tang Yu was stunned. Why was he getting physical?
Before she could respond, a shadow loomed over her, making her body freeze up all of a sudden.
This familiar sense of terror had only been brought upon her by one person before.
Ye Sihan…
“What are you doing?” a cold voice came crashing down.
Tang Yu’s hand jerked back as if burned, and she stood up, glancing around nervously, “Mr. Ye, are… are you also here for dinner?”
As soon as she finished speaking, she caught Ye Sihan’s piercing gaze, scaring her into pressing her lips together.
In her heart, she was thinking. I’ve already resigned from KING Corporation. A boss has no control over a subordinate’s personal matters, and now even less so. Why should I still be afraid of him?
But her body was instinctively tense.
“Brother, shall we eat together?” Ye Yuli asked, without any sign of feeling guilty for being caught.
Ye Sihan ignored him, his face emotionless, his aura intimidating. His deep voice bore no warmth, “Has your resignation been approved?”
Tang Yu was taken aback.
She had submitted her resignation at KING Corporation two days ago; had it really not been approved yet?
She detected the underlying threat.
Ye Sihan swept a chilly glance over the dishes on the table, “Eat by yourself.” With that, he turned and left.
Tang Yu didn’t dare to sit back down, instead watching as Ye Sihan disappeared around a corner.
“No need to be so tense, let’s continue eating,” Ye Yuli said.
“You did that on purpose just now!” Tang Yu challenged, her voice a bit loud, drawing the attention of others nearby.
Ye Yuli looked up at her, his expression becoming serious, “Ye Sihan is very dangerous. I did it for your own good.”
“I don’t need it.” Tang Yu’s voice was low, her anger apparent as she stormed off in the direction Ye Sihan had gone.
She knocked on the door of the private room, where Ye Sihan was dining alone.
The vast room was occupied only by him, with every corner filled by an intangible presence; entering it, one would be enveloped and find breathing difficult.
Tang Yu stood beside him, polite yet filled with nervous tension, twisting her hands in front of her, “Mr. Ye, why hasn’t my resignation been approved? It’s been two days since I submitted it…”
“Disinfect your hands before you talk to me,” Ye Sihan’s indifference was unapproachable.
Although Tang Yu didn’t understand why he was this way, she still went to get medical disinfectant from the restaurant and thoroughly disinfected her hands in front of him.
With her head down, she still felt the terrifying pressure from Ye Sihan’s sharp gaze.
She thought inwardly, was it because Ye Yuli had touched her hand?
Such behavior, Ye Sihan was being too domineering, wasn’t he? And it seemed he had an obsessive-compulsive cleanliness disorder.
But these were her hands!
“Mr. Ye, I have disinfected my hands. So… can my resignation be approved now?” Tang Yu didn’t dare to flee, as that might provoke this man who had absolute power, right?
Better to go step by step and not cause more trouble having been permitted to resign.
For an ordinary person, the struggle for survival was this arduous.
“Is Assistant Xiao so idle to revolve around you?” Ye Sihan’s gaze became even more incisive, “Affecting your date?”
Tang Yu was frightened, her voice small as she explained, “I’m not on a date…” After saying this, the private room was filled with an oppressive suffocation, and she was forced to tell a lie, “It’s because… because of the incident where I was slapped by Ye Yuli’s mother last time, he came to ask me about it.”
What do you think?
