Chapter 577: Nyxvein, The Veil of Fate (2) [Bonus]
"They first called her Kalyra, the abandoned child... Then she became the child who never knew peace.
Her life is murder, and her smile is torture.
They called her many names; they branded her with many evil titles. Her existence wasn't welcome, and her pain was ignored.
She fought for her place, but she was ignored, and when she gazed into the rising sun, all she saw was disappointment.
But in the end, she went against fate and won, becoming a symbol after living a chaotic life.
Her name changed, and her fate transcended. The one called Death's Favourite is reborn—her name is Nyxvein.
Rise, Nyxvein, The Veil of Fate, for your destiny awaits you."
The moment Kent invoked her true name, the heavens shuddered and a thick darkness descended, enveloping Lady Lani, who stood in the air, emotionless.
Suddenly, a powerful boom came from the sky, and a large scythe appeared. It moved and hovered before Lady Lani's motionless body.
Five hours went by, but she remained immobile and emotionless. However, a few minutes after that, her body was dragged into a dark portal that opened behind her.
Countless arms dragged her in.
That also lasted for another five hours before the scythe moved and cut a deep opening into the void. From within, a dark, hooded, and masked figure appeared holding a dagger.
Her entire body was covered; even her eyes were burning red through the mask covering her face. She moved, and wherever she stepped, the space seemed to crack.
"Oh my freaking gods... She is a peak Core Formation expert," Vexthra, who easily read her cultivation base, said, eyes widening.
Lady Lani had not only become a Core Formation expert but also undergone five core evolutions, placing her in the same stage as the Bloodvein tribe chief.
But that isn't all...
Somehow, in a strange kind of way, her body is leaking Void energy, meaning she has mastered Void energy to some extent.
Then there was the case of her scythe now hovering behind her. When her hands touched the scythe, the mask on her face vanished; however, that didn't make her any less terrifying.
Her eyes were still burning crimson.
She moved, and like traveling through the void, she appeared before Kent and smiled. She leaned in and kissed him. Kent, of course, wasn't afraid of her, so he kissed her back.
Thankfully, her terrifying appearance washed away when Kent kissed her. Her dark clothes and hood vanished, replaced by yet another dark cloth, but much more relatable now.
Even her eyes changed from red to darkish white.
"You've become powerful," Kent said, holding her hand. Lady Lani smiled and responded, "It is all thanks to you finally awakening my true name."
"How do you feel, by the way? Does the new transformation feel scary?" Kent asked, but Lani kept smiling as she answered.
"I feel great. I feel like I have finally become the real me. I haven't only become strong and am now much more in the skin I was meant to have.
It's strange, but I don't feel any discomfort."
"It's good you feel this way," Kent smiled and then walked toward his ladies, holding Lani's hand. They immediately swarmed her, examining her body to the point they couldn't stop touching her long ears.
She isn't an elf. However, her looks are no different from an elf. Her race, Shadowborn, shares some traits with the elves, like their beauty and long ears.
However, Lady Lani is more than just a Shadowborn; her actual race is Primordial Umbra-Shadowborn. This is a step up from her previous race when she was only known as The Joker.
This makes her someone special, but she is now much more dangerous than her former self. This was even more interesting considering somehow, she had comprehended Void Energy.
"Big sister Lani, show us your cool abilities," Unity asked, and Lani nodded.
She extended her hand, and the Void cracked. Then she put her hand into the crack and pulled out a red dagger.
"This ability of mine allows me to temper my weapons in the void. Every last weapon tempered has an 80% chance to ignore all defenses of those even two realms above me.
But that isn't all. Every skill I use, regardless of its grade, imbues the attack with Void energy and some traces of Death Qi."
"Wait, you know Death Qi?" Vexthra asked.
"Yes. Aside from spiritual qi, I can rely on two other energies. The first is Void energy, for which I already have Perfect affinity.
I can harness it into attacks and even use it to traverse great distances."
Ingrid, a Voidling who can also do the same, raised her brow. 'Even I can't casually do that, simply because I am a level lower than her. I am only at the Super level, while she has Perfect affinity.'
She sighed, knowing her time would come soon enough... Lady Lani continued.
"Aside from the Void, I also have Super Affinity for Death Qi that I can only use with my scythe. Honestly, I don't know where the Death Qi came from, but in that form, I am akin to a death god."
"It sounds like you've become a terrifying assassin by all standards. With the power to harness the Void and Death, I say you will give Neomi a run for her money on who the true Harbinger of Death truly is," Vexthra smiled.
Neomi also smiled.
She doesn't have Death Qi, but she has the aura that makes Death listen to her. So, looking at Lani, who has Death's favour, was like looking at her younger sibling, who has started walking the same path as her.
The legends of the Joker and Shara are two of the most terrifying stories. They both killed their fair share of people, but in the end, they did something good, and the universe rewarded them.
If they had died with that much blood on their hands, the universe would have made sure their names were wiped from every history book.
"I also have this," Lani suddenly said, taking out a black book with a skull tattoo on the cover.
"It's called the Death Note."
What do you think?
