Chapter 425 425: Old Friends Meet
"How did it go?" Nara asked Kent the moment he reappeared inside the carriage.
"Let's just say the one who sent them will know I am finally out," Kent smirked. "Looks like there will be fun to have this time too. Can't wait"
"We better be prepared then," Nara also smiled.
Though she is one elegant lady, she is also a Night Rider, someone built for battle. So hearing there is fun to be had means she is going to have some killing to do.
"Just don't get too excited. I have leveled up too fast and would like to check how much stronger I have become, so I will take the lead in the battles."
"Still, my captain told me to protect you, so that is what I am going to do, whether you like it or not." Nara wasn't backing down.
"Fine. But when they are beating you, don't come crying to me." He smiled before laying his head on her lap.
"What do you think you are doing?" Nara asked, staring into his beautiful purple eyes.
"Protecting my head, of course. How else are you going to do that if you aren't close to me?" Kent laughed, having no plans to get back up.
Nara sighs and chooses to let him be his shameless self. Of course, her heartbeat is anything but calm as they fly toward the vast city.
About 30 minutes later, they arrived at the entrance of the city.
Normally, they would be asked to identify themselves since everyone else at the gate was doing so.
However, they let it pass when they set their eyes on the golden carriage.
Someone riding that carriage wouldn't be someone they would want to question, especially since a big event is happening in the city.
So after they entered, Kent directed them to the Silver Leaf Auction House.
They arrived immediately, and Kent led her inside. The guards at the gate recognized him, so they allowed them to enter.
"It's good to see you again, Kent. I have been expecting you," Lady Lani said, standing a floor ahead of Kent, with Alina smiling beside her. The two look like goddesses looking down on mere mortals.
Kent lifted his head and smiled.
"It's Good to see you, too, Lady Lani. I can see you have made progress in your cultivation. Congratulations," Kent smiled and led Nara up.
He held her hand like the gentleman he is—not that he was required to. Nara just allowed him to be himself. After all, she had seen enough to know that the handsome young man beside her was someone he could trust.
Lady Lani led them into one of the VIP rooms and sat across from them. The moment she set her sight on Nara, the air in the room changed.
Naturally, both ladies are sizing each other up, which is funny considering Lady Lani is a Sovereign now and Nara is only a Peak Transcendent.
Alina, who was aware of what was happening, giggled.
"Easy, ladies. Before you rip each other's clothes off, at least get to know each other first," Kent smiled, feeling the air had cleared up.
He knew what had just happened, or at least he thought he knew, but he just couldn't understand why that had happened.
It wasn't like he had made any advances that suggested otherwise toward Lady Lani, so why was she sizing Nara up?
Not that he cared. To him, this was a positive outcome, and Alina, who could tell the mischief in Kent's eye, could only smile and pity the two ladies who didn't know that they had already fallen into a trap that couldn't be escaped.
"Nara, this is Lady Lani. She is the master of this auction house, and as you can sense, a Sovereign," Kent introduced Lady Lani to Nara.
"Lady Lani. This is—"
"Nara Ferrychild, also known as Scarlet Sword," Lady Lani said before Kent could finish his sentence.
"You were supposed to be dead," she said curiously.
"And you were supposed to be trapped in that cave," Nara also said.
"I escaped," Lady Lani muttered with a smirk behind her veil.
"I also resurrected," Nara replied with the same smirk on her lips.
"I could swear your death made me smile, and I even celebrated for an entire year," Lady Lani said again.
"I would have celebrated if you were still trapped in that cave, but I guess your annoying luck stepped in. How disappointing," Nara said with a small laugh.
"Good to see you again, Nara. I missed you."
"I don't," Nara just chuckled.
"Don't tell me you are still mad about that mission. It was your bad luck for going against me," Lady Lani laughed.
"Bitch... Stealing someone's kill is as shameless as one can be. I never pegged you to be that shameless," Nara scoffed, showing a disdainful expression.
"Oh please, I killed that beast using my two hands and daggers. Don't make things up."
The two ladies continued to bicker, leaving Kent in a state of shock. Just now, he sensed their rivalry, thinking it was because of him, but hearing them curse and plot against each other was just too unexpected.
His ego was hit here, and he could feel it.
"What in the tupak world is going on here?" Kent couldn't help but ask.
"Kent, you better distance yourself from this vixen. I am warning you, she is poisonous," Nara said, glaring at Lady Lani.
"Says the vixen herself. Kent, you better distance yourself from her instead. She will bring you more trouble than luck."
"Tsk... Let's walk out now and see whether you can keep running your mouth," Nara said, radiating battle intent.
"You are forgetting something, Nara; I am now a Sovereign. Do you really think you can hold your own against me?" Lady Lani laughed, looking at the squint that appeared in Nara's eye.
"Tsk, annoying bitch," Nara knew Lady Lani won this one, so she backed down. She indeed is a Sovereign, so thinking she could defeat her will not be easy.
Kent looked at the two ladies and knew they were not enemies. No, they are friends who are rivals. The aura between them did not suggest they wanted to rip each other apart.
Instead, they compare themselves against each other as if to measure their finest qualities. This suggests that their rivalry goes way back.
That killing intent wasn't there.
It was more like friendship-type bickering done by two drop-dead gorgeous people.
"Well, who is explaining?" he asked, and Lady Lani looked at Nara and smiled.
"Nara and I were once best friends, until she died on me. So don't mind our bickering; she just missed me too much, and while she is hateful and annoying, I couldn't help but miss her too.
Just take two best friends who hate each other because one is insecure about losing. Naturally, that is Nara here."
Nara smirked behind her veil.
"That is actually very sweet," Kent said with a smile. "Nara, you never told me you and Lady Lani are friends," Kent asked, but Nara just scoffed.
"Who would want to be friends with this hateful vixen?"
Kent could only laugh...and shake his head.
What do you think?
