Chapter 457 - 457 446 Zhan Qipeis Anxiety
Chapter 457: Chapter 446: Zhan Qipei’s Anxiety Chapter 457: Chapter 446: Zhan Qipei’s Anxiety Zhan Qipei’s thin lips pressed tightly into a straight, curveless line of ice as he slowly began to speak.
“Because of some mishap, I missed the time to see her, and I haven’t seen her all day. Let her take my call.”
He now desperately wanted to hear Qiao Jing’s voice, otherwise, he was utterly unable to concentrate on his work.
At this moment, he hadn’t absorbed a single word of the document before him.
Zhan Nanqing felt a bit troubled as she stealthily glanced at Qiao Jing, who was engrossed in her work.
“Brother, but she’s working right now, I don’t know if she’ll want to talk to you.”
She knew all too well that her sister-in-law hated being disturbed while working.
Zhan Qipei’s low voice sounded again.
“Just tell her if she doesn’t want to, then never mind.”
He couldn’t force Qiao Jing to interrupt her work; he could wait until he got home tonight.
Zhan Nanqing furrowed her brows, hesitating for a while.
“Alright.”
After hanging up the phone, Zhan Nanqing slowly made her way to Qiao Jing’s side.
She hesitated for a long time, occasionally sneaking peeks at Qiao Jing.
Should she really ask Qiao Jing to put down her work and chat with her brother on the phone?
Knowing her brother’s temperament, he would certainly want to talk to Qiao Jing for a long time.
Qiao Jing noticed the intermittent glances being cast her way and turned slightly to look.
“What is it?”
Zhan Nanqing was taken aback, not expecting Qiao Jing to notice her.
“Ah… Nothing… How did you know I was looking at you?”
Qiao Jing was somewhat speechless and twitched the corner of her mouth.
“Your glances could practically burn a hole through me, I had no choice but to notice. If there’s something you need to say, just say it.”
If she hadn’t noticed Zhan Nanqing’s looks, it would mean she had grown up for nothing.
Zhan Nanqing furrowed her brows and stammered:
“It’s just… my brother asked you to take a call.”
Qiao Jing’s hand paused.
“Okay.”
Could it be that he was going to clear things up with her?
She was quite curious as to how Zhan Qipei would explain the situation to her.
Seeing Qiao Jing agree so quickly, Zhan Nanqing’s face showed a look of surprise.
She agreed that quickly?
She had thought Qiao Jing would finish her work before listening to her brother’s call!
After all, having worked at the research institute for so long, she had never seen Qiao Jing make a personal call to slack off during work.
Qiao Jing put down her work and walked over to sit on the lab’s sofa with her mobile phone.
When she turned on her phone and reached the call log, she found a whole row of calls from Zhan Qipei.
She didn’t even need to look at the messages in WeChat; she already knew they were from Zhan Qipei.
If Zhan Qipei was so urgent, why didn’t he just tell her the truth from the start?
Just as Qiao Jing was about to return Zhan Qipei’s call, his call came in first, and she tapped to answer.
After the call connected, Qiao Jing didn’t rush to speak but waited for Zhan Qipei to say something first.
She wanted to hear what Zhan Qipei wanted to say on this call, whether he wanted to explain that woman’s matter to her.
Zhan Qipei was relieved when the call connected.
“Qiao Jing?”
Qiao Jing hummed in response, then said nothing more.
Zhan Qipei gathered his brows on the other end of the phone, sensing something was off.
“What are you doing?”
As soon as he uttered the question, he realized he had asked something stupid.
But he felt there was something indescribably strange.
To say it was strange, not really, because Qiao Jing usually had this kind of calm demeanor, but his intuition told him that this time, something was not right.
Qiao Jing glanced indifferently at the work on her desk, her cool voice rising.
“At work, you don’t have anything else to say?”
Zhan Qipei was stunned for a moment, not knowing how to respond to Qiao Jing.
He had called just wanting to hear Qiao Jing’s voice, otherwise, he felt uncomfortably distressed.
But now, having heard her, his mood didn’t seem to ease; instead, it felt even heavier.
Qiao Jing furrowed her brows, thinking the call had been disconnected, and glanced at her phone, only to see the call was still in progress.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up first.”
She had thought Zhan Qipei called to explain about that woman.
But Zhan Qipei still refused to speak.
Zhan Qipei opened his mouth, just as he was about to answer her, the sound of the call being disconnected came through the phone.
A “beep”
The call was disconnected.
Zhan Qipei pressed his lips tightly together, staring at the disconnected phone screen with a cold expression.
“Tang Yan.”
Tang Yan immediately responded.
“Boss, I’m here, what’s up?”
He just hoped the boss would ask him about work, given that the contracts on his desk were piling up like a small hill, and yet the boss hadn’t looked at a single one.
He almost wished he was Zhan Qipei, ready to finish reading these documents and sign his name immediately.
Zhan Qipei’s dark eyes grew heavier, feeling uncertain whether Qiao Jing was angry or not.
“What reactions do women have when they’re angry?”
His instincts told him Qiao Jing’s reaction was a bit off, as if she was angry.
Tang Yan felt rather speechless; if he were a character in an anime, by now, three lines of speechlessness would’ve slid down his head.
“Boss… I can’t be certain either, because there’s a saying, ‘A woman’s heart is like a needle at the bottom of the sea.'”
Zhan Qipei glanced at Tang Yan and then looked away, searching for something on his laptop.
Tang Yan, realizing what Zhan Qipei’s gaze implied, widened his eyes in disbelief.
No way?
Did the boss think he was useless just now??
But he wasn’t a relationship expert, so how would he know all this??
However… the boss was now typing on the keyboard, probably dealing with contracts or something similar.
Tang Yan felt immensely relieved and thought about giving Zhan Qipei some advice as he walked over to the laptop.
Not knowing until he looked, he was startled once he did.
Zhan Qipei’s laptop screen showed a Baidu search window, and the words “reactions of a woman when she’s angry” were displayed prominently, catching one’s attention immediately.
Tang Yan didn’t know how to describe his feelings anymore, and nearly blacked out.
“Boss, don’t search anymore. I’ll tell you how Xiangxiang reacts when she’s angry, but Miss Qiao’s reaction might not be the same.”
He thought the boss was going to take work seriously, but there he was, searching on Baidu for how women react when they’re angry.
Zhan Qipei withdrew his gaze from the screen and looked towards Tang Yan.
“You say, Baidu doesn’t seem very reliable.”
Since Lin Xiuxiang and Qiao Jing were best friends, there should be some commonalities in their reactions.
The more he read on Baidu, the stranger it seemed, and there were many possibilities, not just one or two.
A rigid smile momentarily seized Tang Yan’s face, and he inwardly sneered.
Boss, you realize it’s unreliable, huh.
“Haha… indeed, it’s not very reliable. When Xiangxiang gets angry, she just ignores me, giving me the cold shoulder, and it takes a long time to coax her.”
If his boss kept turning to Baidu for answers, trouble would likely ensue soon.
After all, if you search Baidu for cough and cold, it will tell you that you’re gravely ill and knocking on heaven’s door, turning small illnesses into big ones.
And for emotional issues, if one were to turn to Baidu for answers, a perfectly fine couple could end up arguing and breaking up because of it.
Zhan Qipei pondered for a while.
“But, she doesn’t seem to be giving me the cold shoulder.”
Because Qiao Jing had just missed his calls by chance, it probably couldn’t be considered the cold shoulder.
When she was on the phone, Qiao Jing didn’t seem any different than usual.
What do you think?
