Pokemon: Reborn Rich Alternate Earth

Chapter 479: Is This Alola?

Metagross breaking through to late-stage Elite, and that to at a time like this, was truly perfect. Of course, it was thanks to the system.

The Time Capsule had come at just the right moment. It was practically tailor-made for Metagross.

The other four didn’t bother asking anymore how Metagross had reached the late Elite stage right after breaking through.

Right now, all five of them were inside a Top-tier secret realm, and there was no room to be distracted.

“Stick to the plan,” Pierce said.

Among the five, Pierce was the team leader. Not because he was the strongest, but because he had the most experience in surviving in the wild.

The others nodded.

None of them moved from their current spot. In a brand-new Top-tier secret realm, the very first thing to do was get a clear understanding of your surroundings and determine your location.

Each of them sent out another Pokémon.

Julian’s Dragonite, Asher’s Dragonite, Pierce’s Archeops, Ember’s Charizard, and Rowan’s Delibird.

All five Pokémon had the Flying type.

At a single command, the five Pokémon took off in five different directions.

“We’ll wait for them to return before making any moves.”

The goal of sending out the five Pokémon was, naturally, to scout the surrounding environment and check if there were any strong wild Pokémon nearby.

Charging ahead without any information could easily mean stepping into a powerful Pokémon’s territory without realizing it.

If you want to survive longer in an undeveloped Top-tier secret realm, you have to take things step by step.

“Exegg~”

“Exegg~”

Just then, the rustling of leaves came from nearby, along with the cries of a Pokémon.

“That sounds like an Exeggutor,” Asher said.

The sound really did resemble Exeggutor’s cry.

“Look!!”

Ember suddenly pointed ahead, with a slightly shocked expression on her face.

Following her finger, they saw seven unfamiliar Pokémon that looked very much like Exeggutor—but their necks stretched impossibly high into the sky, walking by just up ahead.

And they were constantly crying out, “Exegg~ Exegg~”

“Are those... Exeggutors?”

“But aren’t their necks way too long?”

Rowan stood with his mouth open, staring at the seven "Exeggutors" ahead. Their necks were completely out of proportion with their bodies.

“This might be another form of Exeggutor,” Julian suggested.

The normal Exeggutor was about two meters tall, but these ones were easily ten meters at a glance.

At that height, they could crush a lot of Pokémon with a single move.

“You mean another evolution method for Exeggcute?” Asher asked.

“Something like that,” Julian nodded.

He couldn’t exactly tell them this was the Alolan form of an Exeggutor—none of them would understand what that meant.

Saying it's just another evolution form of Exeggcute actually made more sense to everyone.

After all, no one had discovered regional forms of Pokémon yet, and those seven long-necked ones in front of them were a first.

"Let’s catch them first."

Pierce said, giving Regirock a look.

The seven strange-looking Exeggutors weren’t that high-leveled—around the Advanced level.

Since no one had ever seen this form of Exeggutor before, of course they had to catch them and bring them back for research.

Regirock made its move. The seven Exeggutors didn’t even have a chance to fight back before they were each neatly packed into Poké Balls.

Pierce gave two to Julian, two to Asher, and the remaining three were split one each among the others.

You can’t put all your eggs in one basket. Splitting them up was the safest option.

“These Exeggutors probably have Dragon typing,” Asher said.

As someone who had the power of Dragon Heart, he was especially sensitive to Dragon-type energy. He could feel the Dragon-type aura from the Poké Ball containing the Exeggutor.

That, along with the leafy crown on its head, suggested it also had the Grass typing.

So this version of Exeggutor was likely Grass/Dragon dual type.

“It looks like "this" and you’re telling me it’s Dragon-type?” Rowan stared at him like he was being played.

(T/N: I feel you brother.)

Most known Dragon-types looked at least somewhat dragon-like—even the so-called "Shame of the Dragon Clan," Druddigon, still had a head that clearly fit the type.

But this weird-looking Exeggutor? It looked nothing like a dragon.

If it really was a Dragon-type…

Then it might just win the title of "least dragon-looking Dragon-type Pokémon" ever.

“Your Dragon-types are getting weirder and weirder.”

Rowan muttered, seizing the chance to throw a jab at Asher.

“You’re just jealous,” Asher replied calmly.

He knew exactly what Rowan meant: jealousy. Jealous that Dragon-types had just gained another variant, and maybe that Asher’s strength might rise because of it.

Squeak Squeak

When Regirock defeated the seven Exeggutors just now, it inevitably caused some commotion.

Some of the Pokémon fled right away, while others—curious ones—rushed over, thinking they might find an opportunity to pick up something.

“Shiny Rattata?” Ember exclaimed in surprise.

A black-colored Rattata had appeared before them. But then, one after another, nine more that looked just like it followed behind.

All of them were black.

Looking closely, their features were actually a bit different from the regular Rattata.

Clearly, this wasn’t a case of shinies. There were way too many for that.

“Another Pokémon with a different form.”

Julian said, frowning slightly. At this point, he was starting to suspect that this Top-tier secret realm could actually be the Alola region from the anime.

Alolan Exeggutor, and now Alolan Rattata...

One might’ve been a coincidence—but two? That was probably something more.

Metagross used Psychic to immobilize all ten Pokémon at once.

After they were caught, each of the five ended up with two Pokémon each.

“Talk about one surprise after another.”

Ember held up her Poké Balls, with a hint of excitement on her face.

Just arriving and already capturing two Pokémon with different forms? That was a solid start, at the very least. Then she turned to Julian.

“Looks like your bad luck is getting overpowered by my good fortune.”

Julian: “I’m not unlucky.”

His tone was calm, as if stating a simple fact.

It's just that Metagross didn’t quite back him up. When Ember called him unlucky, it gave a look like, 'Everyone knows that, come on.'

“Don’t pretend! When the five of us were fighting against Victor’s team, what was up with your Metagross? Got paralyzed by Thunder Punch, failed Protect the second time, then got its Special Defense dropped by Shadow Ball…”

“Stop!!”

Julian raised a hand to cut her off and stubbornly insisted, “You just said it yourself—Metagross had bad luck, that’s its problem. What’s that got to do with me?”

“Right, Metagross?”

Julian turned to Metagross with a smile.

See? That explained everything. He wasn’t the unlucky one—all of his Pokémon were. Totally different thing.

Metagross: 'Whatever makes you happy.'

“Meta~”

Metagross gave a slow nod, it obviously gave in.

Metagross: 'I know how this works—better one full meal than none at all.'

Julian: 'Very good. You’re getting an extra treat tonight.'

Ember: “Metagross, blink twice, if you’re under duress.”
