Chapter 411: Ruined
The Lawson Family’s eight Elite members and one pseudo-Champion all attacked together. However, the other pseudo-Champion serving as an elder did not make a move.
After all, he was only an elder of the family, not a direct member, and the opponents were Champion John and Elite Jake.
'Yeah... I should probably stay out of this.'
The battle was immense, as the weakest participants were at least Elite-level.
But it ended quickly.
Even though John and Jake were outnumbered, it didn’t matter—John was a Champion, and even though Jake was only a pseudo-Champion, handling a few Elite opponents wasn't an issue.
As a result, most of the Lawson Family's estate was obliterated by the battle’s aftermath, and many family members were killed or injured.
But that was just collateral damage.
In this battle, five out of the eight Elite members of the Lawson Family were dead, and the only pseudo-Champion on their side was also killed.
The three surviving Elite members had lost some of their strongest Pokémon.
As for the Lawson Family patriarch, he got lucky—an attack that should have killed him was blocked by his main Pokémon, which died in his place.
"John, that's enough."
Just as John was about to finish off the remaining three Elite, Alakazam teleported in, bringing Duke with him.
"Champion Duke!"
The Lawson Family patriarch never expected that John would go this far—the Lawson Family had completely fallen from a major clan to a mid-tier or even small family.
Seeing Duke's arrival, he desperately screamed, "Champion Duke! John is openly slaughtering my family! Please help me take him down!"
Duke was the strongest Champion in Drakoria. If he took action, even John wouldn't be able to win.
"Why are you here? Want to join in?"
John turned to Duke, grinning as he invited him to help wipe out the Lawson Family.
Duke’s expression darkened slightly, 'This idiot.'
"Enough, this has gone far enough," Duke said.
The Lawson Family had already suffered enormous losses. Their high-end power was mostly wiped out, and they were no longer the force they once were.
Duke had come to prevent their complete destruction—he couldn’t allow John to exterminate the Lawson Family entirely.
After all, even though the Lawson Family had made mistakes, Connor and Felix were already dead, and the family had already paid a heavy price.
As the President of Drakoria’s Trainer Association and the country’s strongest Champion, Duke had to think about the bigger picture.
If he stood by and allowed John to completely wipe out the Lawson Family, what would the other major families think of him and the Trainer Association.
And besides—the Lawson Family hadn't even made a move against Julian yet.
"Fine."
John smacked his lips, clearly a little unsatisfied, but he knew that truly wiping out the Lawson Family would only cause even bigger problems.
Listening to their conversation, the Lawson Family patriarch was completely stunned.
So Duke was actually on John’s side all along?
“Duke!”
The Lawson Family patriarch roared, “John has killed so many people! Are you just going to ignore this?”
He pointed at the bodies of his fallen family members, the corpses of Pokémon, and the ruins of their once-grand estate. Many innocent family members had likely perished in the aftermath of the battle.
Duke nodded calmly: “John's actions are indeed over the top, I will talk to him about it.”
For a Champion, as long as they didn’t betray the nation or commit heinous crimes, the government had very little control over their actions.
And truth be told, Duke had no sympathy for the Lawson Family.
If not for Connor’s treachery, which led to the intelligence officer's betrayal, Duke wouldn’t have been poisoned, and he had barely survived.
If not for Julian and Celebi, he would’ve been dead by now.
Although Connor was dead, but that didn’t mean the Lawson Family wouldn’t pay for his sins.
At first, Duke hadn’t planned on doing anything to the Lawson Family. But then, Felix provoked Julian, and the Lawson Family was plotting against him.
So he let John do the dirty work and gave the Lawson Family a brutal lesson.
“Are you blind?! You’re blatantly siding with him! I’ll report you to the Elder Council!” The Lawson Family patriarch was furious, his eyes bloodshot.
“Sure, and while you’re at it, why don’t you also report the deals you secretly made with Celestria, Wyvernia, and Babath to the Elder Council?” Duke’s expression turned icy.
Those deals had already harmed Drakoria’s interests, and some could even be considered treasonous.
The only reason the government hadn’t arrested the entire Lawson Family was out of respect for their ancestors, who had once made great contributions to the nation.
Hearing this, the Lawson Family patriarch froze, his rage instantly replaced by panic. Those transactions were top secret—how did Duke know?
“Julian is one of Drakoria’s most promising young talents, and also the hope of Drakoria, you understand what that means, right?” Duke said calmly.
The Lawson Family patriarch nodded after a moment of silence.
John flashed a big, toothy grin and said directly, “If anything happens to my grandson, there won’t be a single Lawson Family member left alive.”
---
What happened to the Lawson Family was unknown to the common people, but within the elite families, news spread like wildfire—the once-powerful Lawson Family had been utterly crippled by John and Jake.
They had fallen from a big clan to a mere mid-tier family, and now, other families were already moving in to devour their remaining assets.
When one family falls, several others rise.
And at the center of it all—was Julian.
From this incident, many families also noticed that Duke seemed to be standing on Julian’s side.
This immediately reminded them of the previous rumors-it was said that Duke had indeed been poisoned by a Champion from Babath, but was saved by Julian.
At the same time, Duke’s granddaughter was very close to Julian.
In other words, Julian had two Champions standing behind him.
Anyone who wanted to secretly target Julian had to first weigh whether their family could withstand the retaliation of two Champions.
Upon realizing this, the major families quickly warned their younger generation—especially the more hot-headed ones, to not provoke Julian. Of course, normal competition was fine, if someone defeated Julian fair and square, John wouldn’t interfere.
But if anyone tried underhanded tricks or bullied him with seniority, then John wouldn’t be polite.
---
Meanwhile, at Imperial University, Julian was sitting in his newly repaired villa, looking a little dazed after hearing what his grandfather had done.
Julian hadn't expected his grandfather to react so strongly. 'He actually stormed their estate with Dad?'
When he had Gengar take care of Felix, he did consider that the Lawson Family might try to eliminate him in secret—after all, he had used underhanded methods to get rid of Felix himself.
But even if they tried, their chances of success were slim.
After all—
- He had Gengar in his shadow.
- He had a quasi-Champion Alakazam.
- He had the Mega Pallet Town Physique.
- And he could temporarily summon Mewtwo using ten Mewtwo fragments.
As long as he wasn’t killed instantly, he had access to medicine from the System Store which could save him.
With all these safeguards, Julian seriously doubted that the Lawson Family could assassinate him.
So Julian wasn’t too worried about them, and now he was even less worried.
With the Lawson Family ruined, what was there to worry about?
