Chapter 466: Enormous Sea Wave
“By the way, regarding these two approaches to training Pokemon—power and emotion… what are your thoughts, Terrance?” Albus looked at Terrance.
Terrance was taken aback. For a Trainer, the issue of power and friendship was indeed an interesting one.
After thinking for a moment, Terrance spoke.
“Broadly speaking, training itself exists based on these two factors… What kind of relationship should a Trainer and Pokémon have, and how can this relationship be improved?”
“Because of differing viewpoints, each Trainer chooses different training methods and specializes in different areas. I believe… there isn’t a single correct training method; each approach has its advantages and disadvantages.”
“How so?” Albus asked curiously.
“For example, you’re more accustomed to letting Pokémon grow through battles, aren’t you? That might have something to do with your experiences, but there’s no denying that this is one of the fastest ways for Pokémon to gain strength.” Terrance sighed slightly.
“But I’m different. You know that I started out as a Breeder, and certain ways of doing things have become deeply ingrained in my philosophy. To me, ensuring that Pokémon receive meticulous care while growing naturally… that’s the only way I can stay true to my role as a Breeder.”
Albus didn’t respond. It wasn’t just the two of them that were different.
In fact, many training approaches ultimately fall into these two categories: one focuses on Pokémon’s feelings and happiness, fostering friendship, while the other emphasizes Pokémon’s power and abilities. Debates over these two perspectives… have long been common among Trainers.“As long as a Trainer is capable, it’s possible to maintain a balance without neglecting either aspect,” Albus mused.
“That’s true, but it also depends on Trainers meeting Pokémon whose personalities match their own…” Terrance said.
The compatibility between a Pokémon’s personality and a Trainer’s personality indirectly influences how far they can go together.
Terrance did not reject either perspective. To him, both power and friendship were extremely important.
Is friendship really that illusory? Not necessarily… Take Mega Evolution, for example. Without a strong emotional bond, how could a Pokémon acquire such a unique power?
Although bonds can manifest in countless ways and be formed through various beliefs, friendship is undoubtedly the easiest to establish.
There are even many Trainers who find that their powerful Pokémon refuse to obey them. But if they shared a deep friendship, would such a situation still arise?
“True, your training concept isn’t wrong. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have been able to master the immense power of Mega Evolution.” Albus smiled. “Different training concepts suit different people. Finding the one that resonates with you and capturing Pokémon that match your style—perhaps that’s the key to becoming a top-tier Trainer?”
“Heh…” Terrance glanced at him. “That may be so, but comparing Elite Four-level Trainers to a Berry wholesaler—does that really sound appropriate?”
“Haha… it’s always simple in theory, but putting it into practice is the hard part,” Albus said.
“That being said, I really do want to battle Trainers with different philosophies. Proving my own philosophy through such battles—doesn’t that sound interesting?” Albus continued.
“It is interesting, but also extremely difficult,” Terrance replied.
How could it be that easy? What kind of place was the pinnacle of the Trainer world?
Lance… Steven… Cynthia… The Elite Four who had held their positions for years, as well as the new generation of young Elite Four with boundless potential—how could their philosophies be so easily shattered?
Even though Terrance was a transmigrator, he couldn’t say for sure whether he was just a tiny ripple in the ocean or a tidal wave capable of overturning everything.
…
…
The journey at sea felt somewhat monotonous, so Albus, Fujiki, and Terrance started discussing their plans for when they arrived at Nightmare Island.
After about a day of sailing, the ship was approaching the midpoint between the Sinnoh and Fiore region.
“Whoooooooo~~~~~~”
At some point, the sea wind suddenly grew stronger. The ship’s captain, having received a report from the sailors, turned pale. Just moments ago, the Water-type Pokémon responsible for scouting the surrounding waters had relayed a warning—this area was about to be hit by an enormous wave.
“Captain, what should we do?”
Everyone who had been informed started panicking. Waves were a common oceanic phenomenon… but under different wind speeds, wind directions, and terrain conditions, their size could vary drastically. The current situation didn’t look good, and that was what worried everyone the most.
A wave that’s only a few centimeters high versus one that reaches over twenty meters—could they even be compared?!
Although this wave wouldn’t be as exaggerated as twenty meters high, according to the fleet’s special measurement methods—combining data from Water-type and Flying-type Pokémon along with advanced technology—the wave, while not at a city-destroying level, was more than enough to overturn their ship!
“This sea area has been calm for a long time. For such a powerful wave to form suddenly, there must be a special reason. Regardless, our ship cannot withstand this impact. Is it still possible to change course?!” the captain asked seriously from everyone.
“It’s too late!!” Another sailor rushed in, panic-stricken. Now… the waves were already visible from the deck.
Even many of the passengers on board had started to panic. If not for the crew quickly stepping in to maintain order, the situation would have spiraled out of control.
“Whoosh, whoosh~~~~”
On the deck, everyone stared in terror at the massive wave rapidly approaching in the distance, their hearts filled with grief.
“Why did I have to choose this time to take a ship?!”
“If I had known, I would have stayed in Sinnoh! Damn it!!”
“Get us out of here! Who’s commanding the ship?! Change direction now!!”
The murky blue tidal wave was like an enormous barrier. Seeing it, no one doubted that their ship would be smashed to pieces on impact.
“Where are the staff members? Somebody, quickly bring out the Water-type and Flying-type Pokémon!”
As a large fleet traveling across the sea, they were not entirely unprepared for such natural disasters. Water-type and Flying-type Pokémon were their best means of defense against ordinary waves.
And if they couldn’t stop it… at the very least, some people might still have a chance to escape.
Watching the approaching wave, even with the crew trying to maintain order, some people couldn’t help but lose control, screaming in fear.
Those who had Flying-type or Water-type Pokémon with them quickly released them. Never before had they relied on their Pokémon so desperately, treating them as their final hope for survival…
“Wartortle, I can only count on you now. If we make it through safely, I promise to repay you well—please, believe me.”
“Staraptor, if we can’t escape this, take Ling-er and fly away as fast as you can. Don’t stop until you find a place with people—I beg you…” A young couple, holding their child, pleaded with a Staraptor.
