Chapter 823 - Nora

Salamence used 'Thrash' three times, and Magmar was hit two times. For the final time, it was able to use the move 'Low kick' to counter it and then delivered a powerful 'Thunder punch' to Salamence.

Salamence took some time to get out of the confusion after using the move but Magmar was not doing so well now. It was hit by powerful moves one after the other. Magmar would have done a good job if its speed was higher than Salamence but that was not the case. Their speed was similar and Salamence's defense was higher than Magmar's.

It was not like Magmar didn't do anything. It also send out powerful moves like 'Fire punch', 'thunder punch' and 'Flame wheel'.

But the defense of Salamence was higher. It also used the move 'Dragon head' to counter some of the moves.

Salamence was also using flying while attacking which was making Magmar frustrated.

Finally, "Magmar, use 'Heatwave'"

This changed the battle immediately. It might be due to Magmar losing this battle or the frustration that it was getting hit a lot. It used full power in the attack. The move was modified just like Magcargo and a heated burning sandstorm arose.

The flying advantage of Salamence was not going to work. The storm was raining heavily and it was difficult for Salamence to fly high. So, it flew in the lower range and this was the perfect time for Magmar to hit all the attacks.

Axel was not going to let that happen. Salamence also had a good amount of mastery over fire type moves, so the heat, thought hurting it was not making it difficult to initiate any attacks.

"Salamence, use 'Hurricane'", said Axel with a confident smile.

Salamence started to flap its wings and it created a hurricane that moved towards Magmar. Although, the direction of the attack was changing rapidly due to the 'Heat wave' but the power of the move had almost doubled due to the move 'Heat wave'.

This gave Salamence enough time to use 'Flamethrower' and 'Dragon pulse'. Using a physical attack move during 'Heat wave' was not ideal. This move did damage to Magmar and after using a few more moves, Magmar fainted.

ROOOARRRR

Salamence gave a primal roar. It seemed to have activated its hidden ability 'Moxie' which would further increase its attack.

"Magmar is unable to battle. Salamence wins!!! The gym leader is requested to send out his final Pokemon.", said Cera.

But the gym leader raised his right hand in the sky with a smile and said, "I surrender. Axel wins this gym battle and also the badge."

The crowd went nuts after hearing. This was one of the most awaited match in Zesa city and the gym leader was surrendering. Why? They needed an explanation!!!

Axel was equally surprised by this decision. He was now confident in the winning the next battle cause Salamence could still go on and Primeape was also very strong. Close to reaching pseudo-king rank. Yet he didn't except such a announcement from the Moriarty.

Moriarty could see that the crowd was not satisfied with this. So, he explained.

"The main motto of my gym is that the trainer must have sufficient knowledge about fire types. Of course, the trainer must also have the required power to back it up.

Axel is good on both counts. He is actually better than most of the trainers that I fight. Even if I were to fight the final battle, Axel would have naturally won cause I know that his final Pokemon is going to his strongest Pokemon.

If he really wants to win, he could use his tier 3 king rank Pokemon which would directly finish the battle."

After hearing the reason, the crowd realized that this was not favoritism but they still wanted to see the final battle. Alas that could not happen now.

Moriarty called his assistant and then handed the badge to Axel.

"Congrats Axel. You won the battle fair and square and I am very much impressed with your capability as a trainer. I have some other gym battles to handle today. So, why don't we meet at evening. I want to have some discussion with you.", said Moriarty.

Axel was pressed for time. He needed to finalize the recruits of the mercenary team and also look at his new day care. But he decided to wait for Moriarty.

Moriarty was a very powerful trainer and he wanted to make some good connections.

After shaking hands, Axel went out and he was bombarded by the media. Axel took his time to answer their questions and then he went to his hotel.

He didn't want to spend his time inside the hotel, so he decided to roam around. He also had another purpose for coming to the Zesa City. It was to meet with L's daughter.

Yes, L's daughter was no inside one of the orphanage of Zesa City. It looked like L had made all the preparations if he was not to return. L didn't want his daughter to live in an orphanage, so he made a bold request to Axel to adopt her.

Of course, Axel was not going to listen to L and follow his every command. But he did give L his word. So, he decided to visit her and see. If he could see any potential from L's daughter and if the daughter didn't have any problem, then he would decide to do something about it.

L had not met his daughter for 2 years and now she was 6 years old. L had left her in orphanage dreaming that one day when he had enough money, he would spend his time with his daughter but that day never came.

L had given him an ID card which would make the process easier for the orphanage.

"Sir, do you want to adopt someone?", said the receptionist of the orphanage.

"Yes, I might. But I need to meet her first. This is the card that her father gave me. Her father had already died and he wants me to adopt his daughter.", said Axel.

"Oh, such a sad news to hear. I don't know how Nora would respond. Sir, can you give me your ID too? I need to verify it.", said the receptionist. The receptionist knew who Axel really was as his posters were all over the city but she had to maintain her professionalism.

"Yes, It says here that you are only 16 years old. I am sorry but you will have to at least 20 years old to even think of adopting a child. This is the rule of the region.", said the receptionist.

"Oh,... Ok. I will get another one to adopt her but first I need to meet her and talk to her. If she is not ready and if I am not satisfied, then I will not adopt her.

So, I need to first meet her. Can I?"

Normally, they would not let any people meet the child when the one was not even 20 years old. They would also do a thorough check of the background before letting other adopt any child. But since Axel was so famous, they let him meet her.

Axel was led to a room and then the receptionist knocked it. A small girl opened the door. The girl had long hair, was wearing a trouser and a tshirt with a hoodie and was around 3-4 feet tall. The little girl looked very cute.

"Hello, Nora. Can we come inside? I want you to meet with someone else.", said the receptionist.

The girl nodded and then invited them inside. Axel saw the room and there were 2 beds in the either side with a table, a sofa, couple of chairs and a cupboard. The room was spacious for a child. It looked like L had chosen a good orphanage for his daughter.

There was a single big window and the sunlight was coming from it lighting the whole room.

The girl was polite and all of them sat on chairs. The receptionist looked very friendly with the girl but the girl was sort of an introvert. She didn't talk too much only responding to any questions.

Nora when what was the purpose of Axel's visit. Whenever a stranger came to meet with her, it was cause they wanted to adopt her. But this time, it was a young boy which surprised her.

"Nora, Axel may want to adopt you. If he likes you and you like him, then we can proceed further. But first, why don't you talk for sometime. I will give you guys alone.", said the receptionist and then left.

Just as the receptionist locked the door, Nora asked, "Why do you want to adopt me?"

She was direct and Axel was having a hard time talking to her normally. He had never done such a thing before.

"Do you know about your father and your mother?", asked Axel.

"Do you know them?", asked Nora to Axel. She seemed a bit excited to hear the question.

"I knew your dad but not in a good way. So, did you know your father and mother?"

"I never met my mother. I was told that she died after giving birth to me. They said that my father put me here and I have met him but honestly, I cannot remember much of him."

Nora seemed a bit sad about it so Axel thought to change the topic.

"So, do you like living here?"

"The place is not bad and they treat me very well here."

"Nora, I said that I knew your father but not in a good way. Actually, he was like an enemy to me."

"An enemy?"

"Yes, an enemy. He kidnapped me and tortured me for days. Of course, he didn't have any enmity with me. He had taken a job from an unknown person. So, when I got out of that place, I killed him."

There was a silence in the room. It went around for 10 seconds but Axel felt like hours. This was a very awkward movement for him and Nora.

"So, why do you want to adopt me?"

Honestly, Axel was amazed by this question. He had expected the girl to cry or even hit him but the girl didn't even have a shred of anger in her eyes. She acted as if she was asking a normal question.

"Aren't you angry that I killed your father?", asked Axel cause he genuinely wanted to know about it.

"I don't remember much of him. For me, he doesn't even exist. Since he did a bad thing to you, you killed him. I think that is okay.", said Nora.

The girl was much more mature than he had even thought. Living in such a place made children more mature for their age.

"I am only thinking of adopting you. Before his death, he said about you and said that he wanted me to adopt you. Since it was a dying man's wish I just thought to meet you before I think of anything."

After thinking, Axel asked, "Do you know about Pokemon?"

"Ahh.. Yes."

"What is your favorite Pokemon?"

"My fav is Charizard."

"Oh really? ....."

After that, they talked for an hour only about Pokemons. It looked like Nora was very interested in having a Pokemon and even wanted to be a trainer in the future.

Axel repeatedly asked some questions regarding her father and he came to realize that Nora didn't hate him for killing her father. It took him some time to get used to that feeling.

"Nora, do you want to come with me?"
