Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 893: Gamble

Chapter 893: Gamble

There was a very simple reason why Loimos had not made mention of what he told One to anyone else, it was because even he was not certain of the veracity, they remained but mere theories that the pure undead had not found the means to prove, some of what he said did not seem all that important… But some of it was instead of most dire importance, and here came another reason why none of it was ever spoken off to anyone else, as even if mere theories, one would expect the champion to share them with scholars or more ancient undeads who might have more information.

This was because the reason he had gone out of his way to gather strength was all to make a gamble, indeed, Loimos was gambling on being able to accomplish something based on nothing but suppositions, as solid as these suppositions may be- They were still not the undeniable truth, but at this point, there was little room left for thinking and preparing.

To preserve the great sovereignty of death- No, of the Pale Lady, her chosen champion had to take a risk and gamble on something.

Before One could even properly process it all, Loimos had already taken off, and just as he did, all of the disaster beasts who had been remaining passive until now, and merely serving as replacement for Loimos to take on the brunt of the realm’s restriction- They all emerged out into the open, and simultaneously, as though it had all been prepared in advance, the soldiers of the vanguard all moved in position, assuming formations as they began to march forward.

By this time, Loimos had already arrived before the great, pyramidal barrier- As powerful as he may be, in the current circumstances of the Emerald Realm, he could not simply shatter it and force his way in, that barrier was indeed a wonder of creation, had the barrier of Tamaris been that potent, the empire certainly would have required several years to dismantle it.

The life mist was thick around him, but as impressive as it may, it was of no effect upon the pure undead, the holy energy of Phanes and Nike, god of life and goddess of victory- Both shrivelled back in his presence, it had been long since the heavenly realm had been subjected to attempts from the undead to penetrate upon its grounds, and the deities merely huddled in fear as they did everything possible to prevent it from happening.

Indeed, the immortal divinities were perhaps the beings most afraid of death, so naturally, even mere extensions of them were scared out of their wits in the presence of death’s champion.

“Loimos, I was under the impression that you would refrain from going all-out against us as long as we did not shy away from confronting your troops” in a flash of emerald light, Solzmimi appeared right in the other side of the barrier, facing the rotten skeleton with a glint in her eyes.

“We indeed had a few agreements on the matter” he simply responded, right as Hirzartanli descended from the sky as well, instantly appearing far less friendly than her fellow ancestor, face already contorted into a snarl, like she could just sense that things were about to turn ugly.

“I have to inform you however, that whilst such agreements were initially enforced through contracts of great power, that I have already rendered them null, neither of our two sides is bound any longer” he informed them, the moment he did, something changed in the air.

“What did you just do?” asked Hirzartanli, but there was no longer any use for the usage of words, so Loimos did not respond, and somehow, he just vanished from where he stood, the two ancestors knew that their eyes had not played a trick on them, he had not simply moved away quickly, he had legitimately popped out of existence, only for the terrific presence to instantly reappear somewhere else.

Somewhere behind them.

Inside of the barrier.

“How?”

“It doesn’t matter, we need to do something about him!”

“What about those guys though? Can the other handle them without us?”

Both ancestors turned, if one counted The Song, Loimos had unleashed every single one of his disaster beasts upon them, all nine of them, and each was a paragon of incredible strength, each of those creatures having been personally nurtured by Loimos himself, they had become what was essentially extensions of him, and not all of them could be countered like The Song.

In fact, they were already incredibly lucky that one of them could be countered and held down at all.

Not to mention the countless undeads heading toward them right now, their enemy was not holding back in the least right now.

“Let the heralds and priestesses handle that side, they definitely can’t deal with that monster-”

“Don’t worry ladies, I’ll keep Mister Bone occupied, so you and the others can take care of this side…”

Loimos did not do anything extraordinary to breach the barrier, in fact, he didn’t even breach it at all, he had always been inside of the barrier in some capacity, he simply needed to accumulate enough power to pull onto those extensions of himself, gather them in one place, and use that coalescence to manifest his physical self.

That was the reason he revealed that the agreements were rendered null, it was just fulfilling the final condition he had set in place to aid in that endeavour.

And in an instant, all of the livings who had once met or heard of him, who feared his very existences and suffering from nightmares because of him, they felt that something was stripped away from them, as Loimos used their fear to bring himself inside of the barrier, appearing out of thin air in a bright blue field.

And just a few dozen meters away from where he had appeared, there stood a house built in a style rather different from that of the Emerald Realm, constructed right up against a piece of earth protruding from the soil.

Unfortunately, his arrival did not go unnoticed, as his overwhelming presence spread out the instant he manifested, and for a few seconds, he needed to stand still, the life-filled environment of the barrier required a little less than five seconds for him to acclimate to in the current conditions.

But that was a lot of time overall, especially since his presence was so vast and heavy that it reached every corner of the pyramid’s interior, even pushing against the walls for a few moments before it was finally retracted by its owner.

“This… How did you get here?”

Loimos turned and faced the origin of that voice, but did not respond even as the darkness within his helm met the intense gaze.

“How did you get here, Loimos?!”

“…”

Sighing, the speaker focused intently.

“No matter, I-”

“Milo” unexpectedly, the undead did end up speaking up.

The living stared, just the voice made his heart feel cold, but he did not allow fear to consume him.

“What?” he responded, expecting nothing from the corpse.

“I will slaughter each of your children” but the cadaver surprised him, and in the next instant, the undead’s dark mantle was flung back as gold exploded outward.
