Chapter 28 - 28 28 Unfounded Rumours
Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Unfounded Rumours Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Unfounded Rumours Gu Jiashun’s face paled slightly.
“Jiang Zhe, you…”
“Can it be fixed?”
Gu Jiashun knew, of course, it was beyond repair and shook his head subconsciously.
“If it can’t be fixed, is saying sorry of any use?”
Gu Jiashun’s mouth opened, then clenched his teeth.
Jiang Zhe’s eyes held a cold aloofness combined with a hint of redness, seductive and teasing, yet utterly ruthless.
“Here’s the water.” Xiao Meng came over with three bottles, handing one to Gu Jiashun and one to Jiang Zhe.
After Jiang Zhe took it, Gu Jiashun said, “Jiang Zhe, you can’t make decisions for Xiao Meng.”
“Is that so?” A mocking smile curved on Jiang Zhe’s lips.
Xiao Meng nodded, “Jiang Zhe can fully represent me in making decisions.”
Gu Jiashun’s face went through an interplay of green and white.
Jiang Zhe left with Xiao Meng.
Watching Jiang Zhe’s retreating figure, Gu Jiashun could not pin down exactly what he was feeling.
“Jiashun!” Jiang Fanyue walked over from behind him.
Turning around, Gu Jiashun’s expression was filled with intense emotion, startling Jiang Fanyue.
“What’s wrong with you? I brought you some…”
“Jiang Fanyue, stay away from me from now on!” Gu Jiashun gritted his teeth and spoke.
He stormed off.
Jiang Fanyue clutched her backpack tightly, understanding that it was about Xiao Meng’s incident.
She just hadn’t anticipated such a strong reaction from Gu Jiashun. Wasn’t he the one who hated Jiang Zhe and everything related to him the most? Shouldn’t he be happy about Xiao Meng’s troubles?
Moreover, Xiao Meng’s current issues weren’t as severe as expected.
Jiang Fanyue felt torn, unwilling to let go of the opportunity that Gu Jiashun presented.
After some thought, she picked up her phone and tapped on Gu Jiaheng’s number; some things had to be clarified with Gu Jiaheng first.
“Seems like it’s Mr. Qin’s car.” As Xiao Meng went outside, she saw the familiar Lincoln.
Jiang Zhe recalled discussing increasing Xiao Meng’s psychological counseling sessions with Qin Jingchen that afternoon and was surprised he remembered it.
She strode towards the direction of the Lincoln.
Qin Jingchen was dressed entirely in white today, a white shirt with subtle designs and dress pants, looking extraordinarily striking and eye-catching.
Jiang Zhe’s brows and eyes moved slightly as she sat down next to him.
The smell of sandalwood inside the car had lightened a lot. Jiang Zhe glanced at Qin Jingchen, noticing his Buddha Beads were still present.
There was no Fen Ye in the passenger seat, yet Qin Jingchen still chose to sit in the back seat.
“Let’s eat something first,” suggested Qin Jingchen.
“OK. I’ll pick the place.”
After Jiang Zhe decided, she informed the driver of the address.
She leaned back in her seat and noticed a blanket had been draped over her legs.
Xiao Meng revealed a knowing smile.
Jiang Zhe’s phone rang, she glanced at it, but didn’t answer and declined the call.
After the meal, Xiao Meng stood up first and said, “Xiaozhe, I can go to Dr. Lu’s on my own.”
Before Jiang Zhe could reply, she pointed out the window, “Dr. Lu’s psychological clinic is less than a hundred meters away in a straight line, right? If you’re really worried, you can watch me from here.”
Jiang Zhe no longer objected and watched her walk out.
“Let’s wait for her here. The waiting area at Dr. Lu’s is quiet, but it can be a bit too oppressive,” Qin Jingchen said as he refilled her tea.
“That’s fine.” Having finished eating, Jiang Zhe put down her chopsticks and took out a practice book from her bag.
It was the test questions Xiao Meng had sorted out for her.
Qin Jingchen quietly instructed the server to clean up the private room table and brought a fresh pot of tea.
Then he lowered his head and noticed various test papers that Jiang Zhe was going through in sections.
And the way she casually dashed off answers on various practice books.
Her fingers were indeed beautiful, slender, fair, and elegant.
After solving a few problems, Jiang Zhe remembered the call she’d just declined and redialed it.
On the other end, Dean Kang’s voice came through, “Xiaozhe, I wanted to ask you something.”
“Dean Kang, go ahead.”
“I heard there’s been a change in the admission policy of First Middle School, and they won’t be admitting children from orphanages anymore? Is that true? We have several kids who are upgrading to junior and senior high school, and they’re all counting on this one opportunity.”
“That’s not true, just a rumor.”
Dean Kang believed what she said.
Dean Kang’s tone visibly relaxed, “That’s a relief. With your word, I can rest easy. It’s not easy for the children in the orphanage; their options are limited, and they want to seize these opportunities to change their fate and strive upwards.”
“Just tell them to study hard, and it’ll be okay.”
“Will do! I’ll pass on the message! Oh, and we received the medicine and food you sent back before. Xiaozhe, you need to take better care of yourself too. Don’t always think of others when it comes to necessities, okay?”
“I got it. I’m going to hang up now.”
Jiang Zhe ended the call. Qin Jingchen, although not knowing who was on the other side, had roughly guessed the context of her conversation.
He asked, “How is Xiao Meng recovering with her grades?”
“Mostly there,” Jiang Zhe sat down and continued to casually solve problems.
“Without full confidence, would you let her take a gamble?”
“It’ll be full confidence soon.”
Qin Jingchen fingered the Buddha Beads, “To my knowledge, Xiao Meng and her foster father did have an issue that escalated to the police.”
Jiang Zhe was unsurprised that he knew since he had sent a lawyer over, naturally, he’d look into the background of the case.
“Yet you still arranged for a lawyer to help me,” Jiang Zhe looked up.
Both of them had intense features, hers seductively close to bewitching, Qin Jingchen’s even closer to celestial.
Facing each other, they seemed not of this world.
Qin Jingchen smiled, his mole giving off a charming air, “Helping you doesn’t need factual reasons.”
Jiang Zhe, seldom under his gaze, also smiled, “I believe Xiao Meng doesn’t need factual reasons either. It’s nearly time; I’ll go pick up Xiao Meng.”
Qin Jingchen let her go and picked up his phone to settle the bill.
“Sir, the lady who was just here has already taken care of it.”
Qin Jingchen silently chuckled. She had mentioned she would treat him to a meal as thanks for his lawyer’s help, but he hadn’t expected her to seize the opportunity so quickly.
He had been careless.
…
After Jiang Zhe picked up Xiao Meng, they returned to her rented apartment.
“Here are the problems you couldn’t do,” Jiang Zhe handed them over.
She had written them haphazardly, completely unleashed. Xiao Meng exclaimed with delight, “Wow, this is great.”
As long as Xiao Meng could understand them, that was enough.
Jiang Zhe reached for the chewing gum container, finding it empty.
She then remembered she’d finished it in the afternoon and had forgotten to buy more in the evening.
“I’ll go buy some for you,” Xiao Meng immediately offered.
“I’ll go buy it myself,” Jiang Zhe grabbed her phone and left.
She quickly made it downstairs, exited the complex, and found a convenience store.
Coming out, she saw Gu Jiaheng unexpectedly outside.
Jiang Zhe didn’t spare him an extra glance, withdrawing her gaze and heading back along her intended route.
“Jiang Zhe!” It was Gu Jiaheng who called out to her.
Without stopping, Jiang Zhe continued on, but Gu Jiaheng hurried a few steps to catch up to her.
“Jiang Zhe, can I have a word with you?”
Jiang Zhe lazily popped two pieces of gum into her mouth, seemingly indifferent to his words.
Gu Jiaheng was somewhat surprised. All the elders of the Gu Family and the Jiang Family said that Jiang Zhe and Jiang Fanyue were utterly infatuated with him, hopelessly enraptured.
What do you think?
