Chapter 24: Chapter 24 Leading the Whole Class Astray Chapter 24: Chapter 24 Leading the Whole Class Astray “Now that you mention it, I do remember. She had her adoption dissolved two years ago. But I’m not exactly sure what happened. Did you hear anything?”
Jiang Fanyue relayed, in full detail, the information she had gathered from Gu Jiashun to Liang Jinlan.
Liang Jinlan frowned deeply as she listened, cursing angrily, “What an ungrateful wretch!”
“I said the same thing. Who does she think she is, not only lacking in gratitude but also thinking about repaying kindness with enmity. Luckily, a person like that is no longer in our class. But since she’s in the same class as my sister, I’m concerned she might influence her…”
Liang Jinlan didn’t care whether Jiang Zhe would be influenced or not, as long as Jiang Zhe didn’t continue to entangle with the Gu Family and Jiang Family, it was fine.
However, this Xiao Meng, she weighed her in her heart and made up her mind about something.
…
Inside the Lushan Courtyard.
The sound system turned on, and the sound of the piano flowed out.
Nearly every piano piece was, without exception, “Fantaisie-Impromptu,” a composition by Chopin that is impassioned and far from being soothing.
Fen Ye found it hard to imagine someone using such piano music to help fall asleep.
A cup of fresh tea sat in front of Qin Jingchen, calmly steaming.
“Next piece,” Qin Jingchen’s brows were slightly furrowed.
The sound system automatically switched to the next piece.
The same piece entered his ears, and without noticing any difference, Fen Ye listened as Qin Jingchen continued, “Next piece.”
“Next piece.”
“Next piece.”
Each piece wasn’t allowed more than six seconds of play before Qin Jingchen stopped it.
Fen Ye couldn’t help but suggest, “Jingchen, why not listen for a few more seconds?”
“They are all wrong.”
Fen Ye knew Jingchen had an excellent memory for music, but selecting the elderly Mrs. Qin’s sleeping music like this without playing it for her seemed somewhat unreliable to him.
“Next piece,” Qin Jingchen persisted.
Fen Ye stopped talking as well, and as the same sounds continued, Fen Ye found himself dozing off.
Until he suddenly awoke to find the music had stopped, and outside, a light rain had started to fall.
Qin Jingchen was still savoring the tea in front of him, his eyes clear and showing no sign of sleepiness.
“Jingchen, take a melatonin and get some rest. I’ll go record it again later,” Fen Ye suggested, knowing that Jingchen also tended to have poor sleep, probably due to genetics.
“You go to sleep first, I’m going to get something from the car.”
“I’ll get it for you!” Fen Ye stood up first.
“No need.” Qin Jingchen got up and left, his white clothes carrying a hint of sandalwood scent as he stepped out.
Fen Ye, overwhelmed by sleepiness, rolled back to the guest room to rest.
Moments later, Qin Jingchen returned with a blanket, which apart from the sandalwood scent, had another fragrance – subtle, elegant, distant, and yet not overpowered by the sandalwood.
He covered himself with the blanket, sleep slowly creeping over him, and he finally closed his eyes.
…
The unnamed class was quiet during the morning self-study session, with Song Xingyu presiding over it.
Si Qing started distributing yesterday’s test papers.
“Jiang Zhe, here’s yours.”
Jiang Zhe took it, and Gu Jiashun glanced over, a score of 0.
Last time she scored in the teens, and now she’s actually regressed even further.
I really have no idea what she’s been thinking.
“Xiao Meng, yours.”
Xia Enci leaned over to take a glance, “Xiao Meng, not bad at all. You’ve scored 120 or 130 for the recent tests, and 80 or 90 in every auxiliary subject. Who decided to transfer you to our class?”
“I was in Class 1 before, and indeed, I did perform very poorly a few times,” said Xiao Meng softly.
During her time in the unnamed class, she had felt more at ease, and her grades gradually began to recover.
“Victory and defeat are common in war. With your grades, you should at least be in Class B. What were they thinking!”
Xiao Meng pursed her lips and said nothing.
A little while later, Si Qing came over and said, “Xiao Meng, Teacher Lou is asking for you.”
“I’ll be right there,” Xiao Meng said, handing her paper to Xia Enci. “Take a look first, I’ll come back later to explain the problems to you.”
“Alright,” Xia Enci said, grabbing Si Qing, “What does Teacher Lou want with Xiao Meng? Is she going back to Class 1, or is it just a simple commendation?”
Si Qing scratched his head with difficulty, “Besides Teacher Lou, there are also parents, Teacher Tian from Class 1 and Director Han present. But from their looks, it doesn’t seem like a commendation.”
“If not a commendation, what else could it be?” Xia Enci couldn’t figure it out.
Song Xingyu sat nearby, twirling a pen with a rogue air, and stood up to say, “We’ll find out if we take a look.”
Jiang Zhe had been chewing gum nonchalantly the whole time, casually writing something on a test booklet, but her writing was so messy no one could make out what it was.
Shortly after, Song Xingyu ran back, his face sweaty, “Jiang Zhe, they’re going to expel Xiao Meng!”
The tip of Jiang Zhe’s nose traced a line on the paper, tearing the test booklet.
She stood up and walked towards the door.
“Jiang Zhe!” Song Xingyu followed her, “I didn’t catch the details of what happened, so don’t clash with the teachers!”
What if Jiang Zhe got expelled again? What then?
Now he secretly regretted his poor academic performance, as it carried no weight with his parents. If only he were in even Class C, his father would have agreed to step in and help.
“Don’t follow me!” Jiang Zhe said in a low voice.
Though not loud, Song Xingyu found himself unable to move his feet any further.
All he could do was watch as Jiang Zhe’s figure disappeared in front of him.
When Jiang Zhe reached the door of Director Han’s office, she knocked.
Lou Qiaoyin came to open the door; seeing her, she immediately said, “If there’s something to discuss, let’s do it later. We are all busy right now.”
“Busy with Xiao Meng’s matter? That’s exactly what I’m here for,” Jiang Zhe pushed the door open and walked in.
Director Han and Teacher Tian looked displeased, while Xiao Meng was standing to one side, crying with red-rimmed eyes.
There was also a fashionably dressed middle-aged woman sitting across from Director Han, with an imperious look on her face.
Jiang Zhe walked straight up to Xiao Meng. The seated middle-aged woman looked up at Jiang Zhe, and seeing how she wore her school uniform provocatively and had the look of a femme fatale, she couldn’t help but speak with a sneer, “Is this also a student from No. 1 High School? Dressed like that, no wonder she associates with the same kind of bad company.”
“Mrs. Chen, please don’t make random comments about the students,” Lou Qiaoyin intervened.
“What, did I say something wrong? Look at the one who just came in—her appearance and the way she’s dressed— who knows what trouble she gets up to every day. And this Xiao Meng, seducing her own foster father, your school has been completely silent about this matter, covering for her, indulging her. No wonder she’s capable of leading an entire class astray!”
A hint of red flashed across Jiang Zhe’s eyes.
She squeezed her knuckles, producing a clear, crisp sound.
If it weren’t for Xiao Meng, her fist would have already been thrown.
Jiang Zhe struggled to control her emotions.
What do you think?
