Chapter 392: Comic
“I know you suspect me, but don’t hang up!” Liu Guo didn’t plead any more than that. He sounded like he was on the verge of losing his sanity. Liu Guo calmed down and continued, “You don’t need to say anything. Just listen to me. This envelope, meant for Room 808, is very important. It might be a clue, but I’m not sure what will happen if I open it. Remember,” He took a deep breath. “If I die, you have to be careful of Wu and Wei Jingting. I suspect one of them is dangerous. Something is wrong with Room 808 too!
“Okay. I’m opening the letter. The recipient is Lin Chen. The sender’s name has been crossed off. However, the sender’s address is a place called He Zong Culture.”
Jiang Cheng shot a glance at Fatty. Fatty found a pencil and the phone book. He wrote down the name of He Zong Culture.
There was a tearing sound. A few seconds later, Liu Guo’s voice began, “I opened the envelope. It has… the first draft of a comic.” Liu Guo’s breathing quickened like he had discovered something. “How can this be?”
Jiang Cheng heard the sound of turning paper. Liu Guo found something shocking. Jiang Cheng was quiet, but his hand that held the phone tightened and relaxed.
“This is Lin Chen’s original comic!” Liu Guo said excitedly, “It features a lot of urban legends.
“The first story is called the hunchback. There is a ghost who jumps on people’s shoulders when they bend over. As time passes, the person’s back will bend more and more until the pain becomes unbearable. From a far, they look like a hunchback.
“The second story is called the shadow that cannot be seen. The ghost cannot be viewed directly. You can only hear its footsteps. It will suck away the light whenever it passes by.” Liu Guo spoke faster even though he was trying his best to contain himself. He flipped through the draft.
“The third story is called Gap. It’s a ghost who is a Peeping Tom. Behind the door, under the bed, inside the closet… it can be anywhere. It will slowly approach you until you cannot bear it anymore. Then, it’ll come after you.
“The fourth story is called wig…“The fifth is the nail in the drawer…”
Unlike Liu Guo’s reaction, Jiang Cheng’s group was unusually silent. Hua Luo held his breath. Light flashed across their eyes with Liu Guo’s description. Everything matched.
The hunchback was the ghost who went after Chen Yi.
The second story with the shadow reminded them of Qiao Yu’s brother’s memory. In his memory, his brother heard footsteps in the downstairs cafe, but he couldn’t find their owner.
The third story, Gap, was the ghost who hid in Room 503 to peek at Wei Jingting.
The fourth story, Wig, killed Yu Lan. It wrapped her in a cocoon at the mall.
The fifth story, the nail in the drawer, was what happened to Banana Wolf. Luckily, he survived.
Jiang Cheng had a suspicion that Lin Chen had mentioned these ghosts to Lee Maoshen before. He probably told her to ignore them and thought that she was crazy. When Lin Chen worked on her own, she poured her despair into her work.
Based on what Liu Guo said, everyone in the comic was tortured to death by the ghosts.
Before Jiang Cheng could ask anything, Liu Guo interrupted him. He saw something unfathomable. “No wait!” He said with confusion, “Based on the letter, the draft should have six stories. One of them has been eliminated because it was too dark. If Lin Chen edited the existing five stories, she could go to the company to talk about a contract.”
What was the missing sixth story?
“This draft is incomplete!” Liu Guo said, “The first story has been removed!” Everyone had a feeling that the missing story was the most important one. Liu Guo gasped for air. He sounded like a leaking pipe. He looked around. “That thing is coming closer. I can feel it, but I can’t see it. It is staring me. Perhaps… it is behind me. I can’t wait any longer. Please remember what I said!
“I will attempt to leave, but I don’t think I’ll succeed. I’ll try my best to hide this envelope. If you can find it, you’ll believe me.” Then, he added, “I hope you all can survive.”
The call ended. A few seconds later, Jiang Cheng slowly put the phone down. Everyone was quiet with their thought.
“This Liu Guo…” Fatty was the first to speak.
“It’s probably real.” Wan Xiaoning nodded. She didn’t elaborate, but Fatty felt like she was different from before. If the caller was the real Liu Guo, then he was in a more dangerous situation than they thought. The ghost was too powerful if they could send people back in time. Plus, the ghost wouldn’t have done that just to deliver Liu Guo a clue. He was most likely dead. Liu Guo was clever enough to realise that. He used the last chance to share the clue.
There were many who would pull others into hell with them. Someone like Liu Guo was very rare.
“It looks like the issue is with Room 808.” Chu Jiu thought about it. “Lee Maoshen probably didn’t anticipate this. Lin Chen didn’t tell him and wrote the man’s ghost stories into urban legends in her comics.”
“I think the focus should be the missing story.” Fatty added, “Since the story has been taken away, it makes it more suspicious.
“Plus, the five existing stories are already scary enough. The missing story is even darker!
“What kind…” Fatty swallowed nervously, “Of ghost story can it be?”
What do you think?
