Chapter 348: Fate

The name sounded safe.

The elder coughed violently. Fatty was worried that he’d cough his lungs out. He limped over to the table. He slowly pulled out the drawer, grabbed something and dropped it on the table.

“Split it among yourselves. These are the rooms we have. Don’t complain. You get what you pay for.” The old man said rudely between coughs. Using the staff, he shuffled out of the way. There were around ten keys on the glass table. They looked old, so they should be paired with traditional locks. Each key was pasted with white tape with the room number written on it.

After picking up a key, Liu Guo frowned. “What is the meaning of this?” The number on the tape was 2803. However, it didn’t look like this apartment had 28 floors.

The old man held the big cup, and his eye scanned Liu Guo. He answered croakily, “That’s Room 803 in Building 2.”

“Building 2?” Fatty gasped.

The old man narrowed his eye which flashed, “Ping An Apartments have three buildings, 1, 2 and 3.” He paused. His ugly lips turned over. “Your rooms be away from each other.”

Banana Wolf pressed his lips. He probed, “We are really good friends. If it’s possible…”

“Not possible.” The old man interrupted him with impatience. “There’s no more empty room. If you don’t want to stay here, you can leave.” Naturally, no one argued with an NPC. The travellers soon split up the keys. That was when they encountered the first problem.

The elder took a sip of the boiling tea and said without moving his head, “If there’s not enough, you can find more in the drawer yourself.” This was clearly not a great choice. No one moved. Other than Wu, everyone already had a key in their hand. The people around Wu subconsciously moved away from him, afraid that he might attack them for their keys. Wu walked past the group and checked the drawer. He swiped a new key. His expression was serene like this was nothing out of the ordinary. Chu Jiu tried to study his face, but Wu wore a hat that was propped low.

“Is there anything else that we need to pay attention to?” Before they left, Chen Yi asked an important question, “Like, can we leave our rooms? Where can we go…”

“That is your choice.” The elder grinned wickedly, “But I’d advise you not to wander around at night.”

“Will… something bad happen at night?” Yu Lan swallowed and whispered.

Instantly, the elder shuffled over to Yu Lan with his staff in a few steps. He leaned his distorted face close to Yu Lan. His single eye filled with venom. “Who?” The elder demanded angrily, “Who told you something bad would happen at Ping An Apartments? Who is it?!”

Yu Lan was taken aback. She almost collapsed. No one expected this old man to react so violently.

“No…” Yu Lan almost cried. “No one…”

“Rumours! They’re all rumours! Those damnable bitches!” The elder’s face tore from anger. His socket appeared like it was about to explode. Veins burst in his eye.

Seeing this, Banana Wolf and Liu Guo pulled Yu Lan back. Then, the group quickly escaped the old man’s room. They retraced their steps back to where they were earlier.

“Are you alright?” Chu Jiu comforted her.

Yu Lan took a long time before her breathing returned to normal. She quickly thanked everyone.

Lu Huaxu held the key and said, “I’ll be in Building 3. This is Building 1. Who is coming with me?” Not far from the lobby was the elevator. There was a blue sign that had the number 1.

“Me.”

“And me.”

A few people walked out. Their numbers started with 3. Wu, who was the last to claim his key, also joined them.

Fatty and Jiang Cheng both had Building 1’s rooms, so they didn’t move. The sky was darkening. Those who stayed in Buildings 2 and 3 left in a hurry. After all, no one knew what would happen after dark. Based on the old man’s reaction, Ping An Apartments was not safe after dark.

Fatty turned around to discuss things with the Doctor, but he realised the Doctor was curled up behind him. He was so obedient, like he had been possessed. He looked around curiously. Chu Jie stood not too far away. A tall woman stood beside her. Underneath the glasses, the woman stared coolly at Fatty.

Moments later…

“Have we… met before?” The woman called Chen Yi asked.

Fatty was startled, “Us?” He studied Chen Yi and replied, “I… don’t think so.”

“I wasn’t asking you but the man behind you.”

“No!” Jiang Cheng instantly denied it. “Beauty, we haven’t met before. If you think I’m familiar, then… our gazes probably have caught each other.”

Chen Yi, “...Don’t keep looking away. Look at me when you speak.”

Jiang Cheng licked his lips and slowly returned to normal.

“It is you!” Chen Yi’s gaze sharpened.

“No.” Jiang Cheng waved his hands. “It’s not me.”

Fatty rarely saw the Doctor act like this before a woman. He was intrigued by their history. It sounded quite interesting. This was the smell of fate!

“How dare you trick me at Butterfly Orchid last time?” Chen Yi forgot that she was in a nightmare. She reached for her belt to grab her weapon. She came back with nothing. Things like guns and cuffs couldn’t be brought into the nightmare.

Fatty eventually caught the gist of the situation.

There was a time when Chen Yi led a team to raid a KTV centre. While pursuing a culprit, she got separated from her teammates. She accidentally barged into a high-end booth. However, before she pulled out her weapon, she noticed the situation was already in control.

Couples in unkempt attires knelt at the corner. Someone in a police uniform lectured them. Once he saw her, the officer had Chen Yi keep an eye on the suspects while he went to get reinforcement.

Chen Yi subconsciously thought the man was a member of another team. She agreed easily.

She waited for a long time, but the reinforcement didn’t show up. Eventually, she got a call from the captain. The captain demanded to know where she was. They had captured everyone and were already prepared to leave.
