Chapter 75: Genin Naruto

"Ryosuke, Naruto's here."

Ryosuke was in the middle of training, pouring all his focus into preparing for the upcoming battle when Hinata's sudden call broke his concentration.

He paused, turned around—but saw no sign of Naruto nearby.

Walking over quickly, he asked, confused, "Naruto's here?"

Only then did it hit him—he hadn't seen Naruto in over a month.

He had no idea what had happened after Naruto officially became a Genin, nor what kind of team or Jonin instructor he'd ended up with.

"Yeah," Hinata nodded. "He's waiting at the clan gate."

She continued explaining, "After school, he went looking for you, but you'd taken leave. Since it seemed like you cared about him, I invited him over to visit."

"But when we got to the entrance, I remembered how cautious you and Father used to be with him. I didn't want to make things complicated, so I told him that outsiders aren't allowed to freely enter the clan grounds. I asked him to wait while I came back to ask you first."

Ryosuke didn't find anything wrong with her judgment and nodded.

"Back then, Naruto wasn't an official ninja. The village elders were still keeping a close eye on him. But now that they've let him graduate early and recognized him as a full-fledged Genin, it means they're starting to ease up."

"In the future, we don't need to be as strict as we were at the Academy. Just... don't go telling him things he shouldn't know."

He spoke as he walked with Hinata toward the clan gate.

He didn't hide much from her, even though she was still young. In the ninja world, age meant little when it came to awareness and responsibility. Besides, she was the heir of the clan—sooner or later, she'd have to learn to navigate these things.

Hinata listened quietly, carefully remembering every word Ryosuke said.

There was a massive gap between them—she knew that. Ever since she was four, when she saw Ryosuke slap her feared father away with a single palm, she'd known he was no ordinary person. From that day on, she started learning from him in silence, hoping to shed her cowardice and grow stronger.

It wasn't just about strength. She tried to emulate his calm, his judgment, and the way he handled things.

Under the warm red glow of sunset, the entrance to the Hyuga clan was bustling. Many members were returning home, and most glanced curiously at the boy standing quietly at the gate.

Nobody approached him, nor did they chase him away. He wasn't stopped—but he wasn't welcomed either.

It took a bit of walking from the main house to the entrance, but even from afar, Ryosuke could make out Naruto's straight-backed figure. He hadn't slouched or shown the slightest sign of restlessness, even after waiting all this time.

"It's been a while, Naruto."

Under the curious gazes of passing Hyuga clan members, Ryosuke smiled and walked up.

"Sorry for the wait. Come on in."

"Long time no see, Ryosuke."

Naruto grinned, stepping forward as he accepted the invitation.

"It's my fault—I came without telling you first," he said sheepishly. "So much has happened lately... I couldn't help wanting to talk to someone. You're one of the few friends I've got, after all."

Some nearby Hyuga looked surprised, but none stopped them. Ryosuke and Hinata's status in the clan kept questions at bay.

Ryosuke could clearly sense it—Naruto wasn't faking his smile this time. It wasn't an act or some nervous reflex. It was genuine happiness.

"Looks like the Genin life's treating you well," Ryosuke said lightly.

He knew Naruto had been imitating him for a while now—his mannerisms, his outlook. Not quite learning, more like mimicking. But that was back in the Academy.

"Yeah, it's been pretty good," Naruto said with a nod.

He walked on Ryosuke's left, with Hinata on the right. The three of them headed toward the main house, walking side by side.

"It's kinda boring sometimes," Naruto admitted, "but it feels nice to be doing things on my own now."

As they walked, he talked nonstop about the past month as a Genin.

"And you know, I realized there are actually people in the village who treat me kindly during missions."

"You might not know this, but just because you're a ninja now doesn't mean you start off doing dangerous missions right away."

"Missions are ranked: S, A, B, C, and D. And rookies like me—we're stuck with D-rank stuff for now."

"Simple jobs. Things like weeding, cleaning up trash, helping build houses..."

After graduation, Naruto had been placed under Kakashi's guidance—just like in the original timeline. The Third Hokage had arranged it. Around this time, Kakashi had already stepped down from the Anbu and, with encouragement from Guy, returned to serve as a Jonin instructor.

But unlike in the original story, Sasuke and Sakura hadn't graduated yet. So Naruto's teammates were naturally different.

"Whoa... this place is huge! And so cool!"

Standing in front of the Hyuga main house, Naruto's eyes lit up in amazement.

"Don't be nervous," Ryosuke chuckled. "Yeah, our clan has a lot of rules, but it's not that strict when you're in the house."

He and Hinata stood at the door, welcoming him in.

Once inside, Hinata excused herself to go play with Hanabi, leaving Naruto and Ryosuke alone.

"Please, make yourself at home," Ryosuke said, gesturing to the table.

The two of them sat across from each other at a low wooden table.

Their caretaker, Aliang, served them tea and snacks. Ryosuke gave Naruto a nod, signaling that he could eat freely.

"This is what a big clan's like, huh?" Naruto said, still glancing around curiously. "I always knew the Hyuga were powerful, but it's my first time actually seeing it up close like this."

Then he paused. "Um... is your uncle home? I don't wanna make things awkward if I'm not supposed to be here."

"Father's been busy with training lately—he's barely around. And even if he were here, he'd welcome you."

Ryosuke smiled and waved it off.

"Anyway, back to you—what about your teammates?"

Naruto immediately perked up.

"They're awesome. Especially Rin."

He smiled wide, clearly fond of his team.

"Rin's from the Third Hokage's clan. He's really strong, but super chill and easy to talk to. He always looks out for us."

"Kakashi-sensei gave us the bell test, but we passed it thanks to Rin's plan."

"And then there's Uesugi. He's from the regular class, but he's got a knack for medical ninjutsu. I heal quickly, but with him around, it's even faster."

He kept talking nonstop, clearly excited.

Just from his tone, it was obvious—he got along really well with his team.

And considering the Third Hokage personally arranged Naruto's team, it was no surprise. He wouldn't have paired Naruto with anyone who held the same hatred and distrust that much of the village still carried.
