Chapter 42 - 42 41 The Contract is Sealed
Chapter 42: Chapter 41 The Contract is Sealed Chapter 42: Chapter 41 The Contract is Sealed A flash of green light, and Ailuodi was back in the luxurious hotel room.
“You…” Blan stared at her, dumbfounded, his face clearly showing shock, but quickly, that surprise turned into elation and ecstasy, “You’re finally back!”
The neon lights outside the window still flickered in the night, as if she had never left.
But Ailuodi knew things couldn’t be that simple, “Why are you still here? How long was I gone?”
The other party lifted their wrist, “Four hours. It’s twenty-three thirty-one now.”
Dammit, she had actually been unconscious for that long!
“Didn’t I tell you to leave if I wasn’t back in thirty minutes!” Ailuodi snapped angrily, “Why didn’t you follow the plan?”
“And then suddenly pop up like a fairy in front of the police?” Blan’s voice also rose, “I also said I couldn’t possibly leave you behind. Or are you planning to abandon everyone and take off on your own? This team… This Skeleton Hand was built by you! If you’re not here anymore, what’s the point of us even being together?!”
Looking at her companion, who was more agitated than herself, Ailodi found the words of rebuttal suddenly stuck in her throat.
“…I’m sorry.”
“I accept,” Blan’s expression immediately softened, “But who are you really? I mean… normal people can’t just turn into green light and disappear, then suddenly come back.”
“Haven’t I told you before?” Ailodi pouted.
“Wait, all those things you said before… they were true?” he stammered, “I thought—”
“That they were just youthful fantasies? The result of watching too much anime, causing Hysteria?” Ailodi hopped down from the sofa, “I would never lie to you guys about this kind of thing.”
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry… I still need a bit of time to adjust.” Blan slapped his cheeks hard as if trying to wake himself up, “So… do Demons really exist? And… you caught one?”
“I…” Ailuodi hesitated.
She looked down at her palm, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
It was this hand that had taken the pen offered by the Demon and signed her name on the contract.
She could never have imagined that her first experience would be like this—in her expectations, she would use her abilities to locate the Demon and upon arriving at its vicinity, she would go into hiding, quietly observe the Demon’s situation and the environment, and not decide on her next move until she had enough information.
However, everything had gone contrary to her plan.
She did not expect to find herself in a completely unfamiliar place, and, more fatally, this journey was far beyond her expectations, nearly draining all her strength. Moreover, the Demon’s reaction was exceptionally fast, almost instantly locking on to her, which forced her to decide to fight back…
Ailuodi had prepared herself psychologically for this day, and she had memorized the “Angel’s Code” for dealing with Demons, but from start to finish, not a single event had gone according to plan…
Were the decisions she had made… really the right ones?
“Ailuodi, are you alright?”
The pat from her companion snapped her back to reality.
She glanced at Wayne James, who had collapsed on the floor, and rallied her spirits, “I’m fine. Has this guy woken up at all?”
“He did once in the middle, so I gave him another whack.”
“So you didn’t follow the plan to call the police, huh?”
Blan shook his head, beginning to complain, “What could I do when you suddenly disappeared, boss! Although you told me to leave first, after consulting with Xi Er, we didn’t think the original plan was still a good idea.”
“Enough, now that I’m back, let’s call the police immediately. With the criminal evidence we have, it should be enough to put him behind bars!”
Blan nodded, taking out his phone.
Just then, a warning from their companion Xi Er came through the earpiece, “Hey, is Ailuodi back yet? Something’s not right outside the hotel!”
“She just got back, what’s going on?”
“Thank God! You need to get her out fast, it looks like the main entrance has been blocked… Damn, there are guards at the back door too!”
Blan quickly stepped to the window, pushing it open to look down and saw that around the hotel, there were many figures dressed in black. Some were stopping guests, others were checking the parking lot, their manner of doing things clearly not resembling that of the police.
“Someone has broken into the hotel, you need to move fast!” Xi Er’s voice became increasingly anxious.
At the same time, a chaotic sound of footsteps came from the corridor outside.
“What’s going on?” Ailuodi sensed the gravity in her companion’s expression.
“We’ve delayed too long, I’m afraid we won’t be able to wait for the police.” Blan drew the curtains and casually took a dining knife in hand, “I guess Wayne James missed an appointment tonight, which made those people suspicious. No matter if these people came for him or not, I will create an opening for you.”
Before he could finish, a sudden knock came at the door.
Bang bang bang—
“Mr. James, can you hear us?”
“Please open the door!”
Blan’s guess was correct; these people were here for Wayne James. Moreover, they seemed to know that James was in danger. They didn’t knock many times before they started smashing the locks. In at most thirty seconds, they would burst into the room!
“They’re so quick… no time to hesitate now!” Blan lifted James, pressing the knife against his neck, “Ailuodi, quickly hide in the closet. I will use him as a hostage to attract their attention. The moment there’s a gap, you—”
Ailuodi didn’t hear what came next.
In her mind at that moment, the low whispers of a demon emerged.
“… Insufficient wishing power limits your capabilities. In the face of true evil, your inability to use your innate abilities means you stand no chance at all.”
“You need power too, right?”
In the past, under such a sudden and dire situation, she would indeed have to do as Blan suggested.
But now, she was no longer the Ailuodi of the past.
Just minutes ago, she had made a deal with the demon.
Then she watched as Chaoyang bit his own thumb.
“What are you doing?”
“A down payment.” The other side smiled, “I don’t like to make people work for free. A taste of sweetness stimulates the contracting party’s initiative.”
The classic and stiff wording, the smile on the demon’s face carried a provocation she disliked, but she resisted the impulse to object, forcing herself to lift her head with tension, reluctance, and an inexplicable sense of anticipation.
Until Chaoyang flicked his thumb, smearing his bloodied thumb across her lips.
Instantly, a tremor surged from deep within her soul. The blood was like burning flames, scorching her lips. But she didn’t flinch; instead, she closed her eyes and pressed her lips together. Even though she swallowed nothing, Ailuodi distinctly felt the fireball roll down her throat and permeate her entire body.
And now, that fire lay hidden within her heart.
Ailuodi stepped forward, blocking Blan’s path.
“Step back.”
The latter opened his mouth as if to say something but ultimately closed it and stepped back as she had said, retreating several steps.
Bang!
The door was knocked open at that moment!
Four or five burly men burst in, all wearing black suits and wielding baton-like weapons—clearly, in the bustling urban area, firearms were not the preferred choice. However, this did not mean that the batons posed no threat; whether they intended to take lives depended merely on a single thought.
Ailuodi raised her hand, and an invisible ferocious wind gathered in her palm!
Wind Kissed Sword!
She silently incanted while swinging down her arm.
In an instant, a violent hurricane swept through the entire room, hurling the men who had rushed in against the walls! Furnishings were tossed chaotically around the room, even the knives and forks on the dining table ended up embedded in the ceiling.
Clang.
The dining knife fell from Blan’s hand.
He stared at the scene, his mouth gaping wide enough to fit an entire pizza slice.
“Let’s go.”
Ailuodi turned, grabbed the wrists of Blan and Wayne James, and pulled them toward the balcony without explanation. Then, with broad wings unfurling behind her, she leapt up, soaring into the neon-lit city night sky, flying straight into the starless night.
What do you think?
