Mystery Paradise: Wishing Power Demon

Chapter 39 - 39 38 Angel

Chapter 39: Chapter 38 Angel Chapter 39: Chapter 38 Angel “Sir… what just happened?” the chauffeur’s surprised voice came from the front, “Are you still in a hurry to leave?”

Chaoyang stared at the unconscious person before him, momentarily at a loss, but he had not forgotten the most critical issue at hand, “What did you just see?”

“Uh… a girl ran out of the house and then jumped onto the carriage…” the other party honestly replied, “But she jumped really far, almost like a cheetah.”

So he couldn’t see the storm-like waves of air, nor the dazzling sword light, Chaoyang immediately realized that such power could only be perceived by himself… or rather, it was similar to wishing power and could only be seen with Lingxi vision.

This slightly relieved Chaoyang.

“You continue to wait here.” He lifted the woman and dismounted the carriage.

“Oh… okay,” the chauffeur said in a daze.

At that moment, Dane and Judy also ran out, “Lord Chao, just now…”

“Let’s talk inside.” Chaoyang, without changing his expression, tipped his hat and, in front of the onlookers, carried the woman into the house.

Inside the house, he noticed that the furnishings of the lobby and corridors remained unchanged; it seemed that the other’s sprint had not caused much physical disturbance, and the storm-like momentum was purely a spiritual sensation.

He casually found a room and threw the woman on his shoulder to the ground.

“Your Excellency, this person is…”

“A Fiend,” Chaoyang said decisively.

“Ah! A Fiend?” Judy covered her mouth in surprise but couldn’t help sneaking a few more glances at the other, “She looks so young… just like a human being, only the clothes are a bit strange…”

“Normal, Fiends look like humans until they show their true faces.”

“Sounds a bit different from members of a Heretical Cult… Do you mean her original form isn’t truly human?”

“Of course, otherwise how could she suddenly appear in this house,” Chaoyang said as if it was perfectly ordinary, “Not all forces are happy to see Paradise flourish, for the presence of our Lord is naturally a threat to them.”

“I can understand that,” Judy immediately empathized, “Some fellows just like to see others suffer…”

“So, she attacked you,” Dane said thoughtfully, “Luckily, you were prepared and dodged to the outside in a blink of an eye. Such agility is not something ordinary people possess, Your Excellency is certainly not an average detective.”

“Of course, Lord Chao is a Divine Envoy!” Judy’s eyes filled with even more admiration.

Chaoyang knew very well that things were not as they seemed; his clone had been destroyed in an instant, and from the beginning, the other had locked onto his real body—it appeared to others as though he had teleported onto the carriage. Fortunately, he could change his appearance in many ways, and he was also using his detective identity before boarding the carriage, so no one detected anything unusual.

It was his continuous caution that had saved his life.

“Mr. Dane, please help me prepare a black cloth bag that can fit her, it must be waterproof if possible,” Chaoyang slowly requested.

“I’ll go and find one right away.”

The reporter seemed to guess what was going to happen next; he took Judy’s hand, led her out of the room, and even closed the door behind them.

Once Chaoyang confirmed they were far away, he extended his right hand and pressed it onto the woman’s neck.

Her skin was so tender, no longer possessing the indestructible aura it initially had, as if he could easily crush her windpipe and spine with just a twist of his hand.

This person posed a great threat; she should be eliminated by his own hand.

However, before that, Chaoyang wanted to understand just who she was, why she was able to open a portal to enter the Netherworld on her own, without accepting his invitation.

While gripping her vitals, he invaded her consciousness with his own.

This, too, was one of the innate abilities of a demon—the Dream Entering Technique.

Aside from those who had signed contracts being able to communicate with Chaoyang mentally, he could also actively read their information using the Dream Entering Technique. For instance, the first time he played the game, it was through using the Dream Entering Technique that he guided the contractee Shidong to the fortune-teller’s shop. This ability, however, had its obvious drawbacks—it didn’t allow for communication and couldn’t be done while the subject was awake; the amount information he obtained depended on the willpower of the sleeping person and the complexity of their thoughts. Simply put, those who were straightforward and anxious were easier to extract information from, while it was difficult to penetrate the defenses of those who were composed and calm.

Soon, he felt himself immersed in the woman’s consciousness.

It was a grassland bathed in harmonious sunlight, so flat one could nearly see to its end. The sound of a gentle breeze skimming the tips of leaves echoed in his ears; he could even smell the unique, faint fragrance of the green grass.

Chaoyang himself was stunned, for it was the first time he had encountered such a marvelous state of mind, as if she had no dark corners to hide from prying eyes.

Is this person… really human?

Chaoyang quickly found an answer—yes, but not entirely.

Her name was Ailuoti Cape, and like himself, she was a “lucky” one who had awakened special abilities, but hers were the polar opposite of his own.

This person claimed to be an Angel.

If this had been any other time, Chaoyang would have scoffed at the idea, but now, he could not muster a laugh—demons existed, so why not angels? Moreover, this explained why she could break through illusions, enter his opened channel without an invitation, and effortlessly lock onto his true form.

This was simply a natural, opposing attribute!

He had not expected that after becoming a demon, he couldn’t find any of his own kind, yet the one who came knocking was his archenemy in every sense of the word.

And he also discovered that this person was genuinely a good person.

How good? So good that she had spent nearly her whole life working for the sake of others. She had awakened her abilities much earlier than him, at least seven or eight years ago, but even before that, it seemed she had already grasped the joy of helping others. Acts like returning lost money and helping elderly ladies cross the street were routine for her; after awakening, she took her charitable actions to new heights, and the richness of her experiences left Chaoyang dumbstruck.

Indeed, she had volunteered, donated to disaster victims; she had joined more than one environmental organization and animal protection society; she had marched on the streets of France, protesting against monopolistic corporations; she even spent time in slums, just to better aid jobless people with nothing to their names.

It was hard to imagine that a sixteen-year-old girl could accomplish such things.

Although her memories were fragmented and hazy, making it impossible to discern the details, the overall direction was surely accurate. Memories are hard to fabricate, after all, they can only be formed after being lived through. Chaoyang could sense that Ailuoti was not pursuing anything when she did these things; she did them because she genuinely enjoyed them.

This realization left Chaoyang speechless.

He finally understood what it felt like to be so good it made one want to throw up.

As for why Ailuoti suddenly collapsed, jumping into mid-air and fainting, Chaoyang had mostly figured it out. He didn’t know what angels lived on, but it certainly must be in stark contrast to demons. Since demons had declined to such an extent, angels couldn’t be faring much better. She probably hadn’t anticipated that she wasn’t in her original world and that finding her way here through the portal had used more energy than she had expected. Coupled with her exposure, she had no choice but to make a last-ditch effort. Using her innate abilities in such a state was bound to break the energy balance, plunging her into a state of deficiency.

In other words, even if he did nothing, Ailuoti would not have much time to live.

She would meet death in her slumber.
