Chapter 36 - 36 35 The Pot of Justice
Chapter 36: Chapter 35 The Pot of Justice Chapter 36: Chapter 35 The Pot of Justice Britannia Island, City L.
Wayne James wrapped a towel around his hair as he stepped out of the bathroom, unconcerned about the droplets of water falling onto the wool carpet below.
He glanced at the half-naked woman on the bed and impatiently patted her cheek.
The latter opened her bleary eyes, seemingly just withdrawing from an evening of pleasure. She subconsciously tried to embrace James’s waist but was pushed away by the man.
“Get going as soon as you wake up. I have serious matters to attend to later.”
The woman shivered, finally fully awake, “What did you give me to drink?”
“Just a little something to spice things up. You use it all the time anyway, don’t you?” Wayne James picked up the wallet from the table, drew out a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills, and threw them on her, “Take this, the extra is a bonus.”
The woman wanted to say something else, but her attention was quickly drawn to the banknotes. A glint of joy flashed in her eyes and her sluggish movements seemed to speed up a bit. She clumsily gathered the money, neatly folded each bill, and couldn’t help licking her lips while counting it.
All these did not escape James’s eyes.
He revealed a look of contempt while also feeling a sense of tedium.
Ever since he encountered “Paradise”, the thrills of the real world had seemed so bland and uninteresting, hardly exciting. Similarly, those who had participated in the game were quite different from ordinary people. He couldn’t quite explain why, but he could faintly sense it. Take himself, for example, having crossed the threshold of life and death twice, his insight and reflexes seemed to have returned to his twenties, even stronger than in his youth.
When he first realized this, he was so excited he could barely contain himself.
No amount of money can buy back time. He had accumulated enough wealth now, but his growing age continually reminded him that his body was aging, with unrestrained indulgence only hastening the process.
And now, there was a sign of rejuvenation in his abilities.
The listless woman on the bed was proof of that.
However, conquering such common goods didn’t satisfy James much, for with money, anyone could have their way with them. Beneath their beauty was nothing but a mass of soulless, rotten flesh. His prey should not be limited to this.
That guy named Mingzi was pretty good…
Especially during the kill.
That defiant gaze, the powerful sense of body, and movements like a cheetah…
Wayne James stretched his mouth into a grin, perhaps he could use his connections to inquire about Qianyuan Mingzi’s real identity. Of course, those eligible to participate in the “Paradise” game were either rich or noble, hardly as easy to get as the woman on the bed.
But the more difficult the challenge, the more generous the reward, isn’t it?
“Ding-dong.”
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
James picked up the intercom from the table.
“Sir, the room service you requested.”
“Come in,” he casually pressed the door unlock button.
The solid oak door was pushed open, and a hotel attendant entered the room with a trolley. His gaze lingered obviously when he saw the ravishing woman getting dressed. “Sir, I…”
“It doesn’t matter, just do what you’re supposed to do,” James laughed nonchalantly. “If she wasn’t about to leave, I wouldn’t mind having you service her as well.”
“You jest, sir…” The attendant quickly bowed his head, pushing the trolley next to the dining table and began setting out the food.
“Remember to contact me next time you need something,” the woman said as she fastened her high heels, winked at James, and left the room reluctantly.
As the door closed with a dull thud, James caught a flicker of movement in the corner of his eye—the tablecloth under the trolley was lifted.
A figure burst out from under the trolley like lightning!
“Fuck!”
He bellowed just as he turned around, only to take a fierce hit to the head!
In an instant, the entirety of his head rang like a copper bell, a buzzing sound traveling from the crown of his skull to his teeth. It was at this time that he saw the true face of his attacker—an adolescent girl, no more than sixteen or seventeen, dressed in a white kitchen apron and wielding an iron pot in her hand.
“You little brat!” Wayne James gritted his teeth against the sharp pain and reached out to grab her, but the latter hadn’t expected that her strike had not immediately knocked him out. Her reaction was evidently a beat slow, and just as she tried to flee, she was already caught by the collar by James.
He slammed the girl onto the floor with force and choked her with both hands.
Blood trickled down from the top of his head, tinging his vision red and the metallic taste invigorating his bloodlust!
If it had been before, a sneak attack like this would have brought him down, but now he had undergone a transformation, and even death was nothing to him!
He exerted all his strength, intent on strangling his adversary to death. The girl struggled desperately, but the gigantic disparity in size and strength meant that she couldn’t pry his hands apart no matter how hard she tried—
“Bang!”
There was another muffled sound.
James turned his head slowly and saw that the waiter was also standing behind him, clutching a sturdy rolling pin.
“You motherf—”
Muttering under his breath, he fainted to the floor.
“Are you okay?” The waiter quickly went over to help the girl up after seeing James pass out.
“Cough cough… cough cough…” The latter coughed violently, and it took her a while to recover. “Damn, how is this guy so tough?”
“Maybe you missed,” the waiter whispered.
“How could that be? I’ve practiced hundreds of times. Besides, no one has ever withstood it before when I’ve struck them like that. Right, this must be the Demon’s trick!” The girl suddenly realized, “Blan, go find some rope to tie him up tight, so he doesn’t struggle to death when he wakes up.”
“Leave it to me,” the man named Blan promptly sprang into action.
The girl then stood up, leaning on her knee, holding one eye. Her other eye emitted a strange light that, although very faint, seemed like a myriad of galaxies upon closer look.
“Indeed, my instincts weren’t wrong; this man is tainted by the Demon.” She followed the faint green light within her sights, and shortly after, she found a pair of VR glasses in a travel bag on the sofa, “Got it! It looks like the Demon contacted him through this.”
“Hmm, using a game to connect? Seems like the Demon keeps up with the times.”
“Don’t underestimate Demons!” the girl spoke seriously, “They are cunning and deceitful, and possess incredible powers. Once you fall for their tricks, you’ll end up as nothing but their slave!”
“Yes, yes, you’ve said it many times,” Blan grimaced, clearly not quite believing, “No matter how tough they are, can they eat bullets alive?”
The girl pondered seriously, “Probably not.”
“Well, there you go,” Blan chuckled, “Besides, if they’re only trying to deceive souls and enslave people like in the legends, modern corporations do a much better job than they do.”
“Even so, Demons have the power to change the world; they grow and become everyone’s nightmare,” she shook her head, disagreeing with her companion’s words, “Like those big corporations you mentioned, they originated from the ‘company’ organization, and it was a Demon who invented the concept of companies first.”
“Er… Ailuodi, where did you hear all this?” Blan massaged his forehead, “I’m guessing not from history books, right?”
“Where I heard it from isn’t important. What’s important is to sever the Demon’s corruption of the world… and that’s something only we can do.” The girl placed the VR glasses on her head, then sat down cautiously on the sofa, “I’m going to find the Demon, not knowing what dangers may lie ahead. Listen up, Blan, no matter what happens, you stick to the plan. If I’m not awake in thirty minutes, you leave the hotel by yourself and don’t let the police catch you.”
“Hey, are you serious?” Blan frowned, “It’s one thing to talk, but how are you going to catch a Demon through VR? And I definitely won’t leave you behind to leave alone; even if I have to crawl, I’ll carry you out!”
The girl opened her mouth.
The shape of her lips formed the words “Thank you.”
Immediately after, her body burst into bursts of green light!
Blan’s eyes widened as he stood agape. It was at this moment that he finally sensed that something was amiss!
“Ailuodi!”
He dropped the rope in his hands and dashed towards the sofa! But as quickly as the light had come, it vanished, and after the glimmering waves passed, the sofa was left empty.
What do you think?
