Chapter 1211: Picking An Altered Weapon

Chapter 1211: Picking An Altered Weapon

If there was one thing that Gary was thankful for, it was that Blackjack had at least tried his best for them to not have to go through this.

But they were warned that this might be the case and it was somewhat expected that they would need to prove that they were allowed to be part of this operation. Especially since they were new Altered hunters.

The only way to explain that no one had seen them before was to say they were apprentices training under the others.

Thankfully, their ages somewhat fit the narrative, even though Altered hunters were of all ages, it just made things more believable.

What Gary didn’t expect was for them to have to fight against a five-star hunter out of all things.

Now they needed to pick a weapon.

‘None of us really fight with weapons though?’ Gary thought as he looked around.

The Altered hunters had brought out their own weapons. Each of them a different array of choices that were quite wide in variety.

They were just borrowing it off their fellow hunters for now for the little test they were to go through.

When looking at each of the items, Gary’s system was actually able to assist him as well. He could instantly tell which was better equipment.

It would be obvious by the amount of stars a hunter had, but not all had their stars on display so obviously.

“I guess I’ll go with this,” Austin said as he had picked up a black chain, with a heavy weight at the end. It wasn’t sharp but more of a square rectangle in shape.

When Austin took it off the hunter, he swung it a few times to get used to the weight and speed, and it made quite the scary noise as he swung it in the air.

“Did you see him swing that thing?” One of the Altered hunters complimented.

“Yeah it cut through the air fast, his size isn’t just for show, he must have some serious muscle.”

“We can’t underestimate Blackjack’s apprentices and Kim’s. Both of them are skilled hunters, they wouldn’t just take anyone under their wing.”

It had brought a few smiles on the other Altered hunters' faces. They would rather see some back and forth, than a domination from one side.

Although many of them would be upset and worried about a hunter slowing them down or getting in on the mission through privilege, a skilled hunter and one that might be able to save their lives one day, was always of use.

‘I haven’t used something like this so much myself, but a few of the school gang wannabes would use this, so I’ve seen it in action and dealt with these type of things a few times,’ Austin thought.

Right after that, it was Kai’s turn, he had browsed the various weapons, and was about to pick up just a regular sword from one of the hunters.

It was the most basic to use, and although he hadn’t fought with a sword before, he thought it was the easiest to get the hang off.

In the end, he saw something else, as he picked up two daggers and placed it in his hand.

‘My special shapeshifter form, including when I turn into a wolf, increases my speed. If we’re basing item use off of what would fit my speed, then lightweight daggers designed to attack, is the best thing to go for.’

Lastly, Kai turned his head, as he could see the Howler leader himself struggle.

‘Should I just go ahead and pick the strongest item according to the system? That way if I do too well, then even the Altered hunters would know it’s because of the weapon and not myself… or do I just go for something basic, and then show some sort of skill. I’ll have to show something while not showing too much.’

Gary was humming and erring to the point that Saiber was getting extremely frustrated.

In his haste he did see something that he had spotted. Walking over he went and picked up the large item.

“Are you sure kid?” The large man said. “This thing, it’s not easy for first-time users to use. Although it looks like it can be devastating, not everyone can use it.”

“Thanks for the warning,” Gary said as he held the item with both hands. What he had selected was a warhammer.

Large in size with a thick head. It was almost the same design as the one given by the Dark Guild.

Only it was far less fancy with its details and extravagance, but the shape was there.

As the three of them walked back over to their positions, Kai couldn’t help but look at what Gary had chosen.

“So have you been practicing with the other warhammer then, is that why you picked that?” Kai whispered.

“No,” Gary answered straight away. “I haven’t had much time to practice at all, but I did research.”

“Research?” Kai questioned, he wasn’t sure how one could do research into how to use a weapon without using it. “What type of research.”

“Well you know, Tom was talking about this new game, and he kinda forced me to play it. Hunter Monster, and there’s these characters that can use these large hammers.

“I figured and watched how they used it to fight I could do the same.”

“A game?” Kai said. “Your research was a game, and because of that game, you’ve now selected the war hammer as your choice in this important moment.”

“Look, I don’t have much time to play games or anything like that. I wanted to do something different in my downtime for once. I didn’t know we would end up here!” Gary replied back.

They were now close to everyone, so they had to stop their talking as they lined up with weapon in hand.

“Alright, well Pluto is ready, so big guy you looked good, we’ll have you come first,” Saiber said as he pointed to Austin.
