My summon to another world was even weirder than I expected

Chapter 2: Still Beginnings

Zack entered his classroom with an open book in his hands and walked to his seat, trying to ignore the noise his classmates were making.

Despite being a class of fewer than thirty people, like most classes, it was divided into small groups that spent time together. Among these groups were the athletes, the geeks, the girls, and the model students. These groups rarely interacted with each other beyond what was strictly necessary, as if it were degrading for an athlete to talk to a geek. That was something Zack, a loner, had never been able to understand.

(I guess it has something to do with status within the group) Zack thought, but he didn’t delve too much into these topics, because those questions would generate more questions that could lead to an endless loop that could be answered very simply from the start: teenagers are idiots.

Seeing the chaos around him, Zack could only feel pure admiration for the teachers who came here every day voluntarily to try to bring some order to the classroom and impart knowledge to the students.

Zack put his backpack on the desk and took out a book to read while waiting for the teacher to start the class so that, after that, he could go home to swap the book he was about to finish for the one he had bought the day before.

But, of course, things don't always go the way you want.

“WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!!!”

Suddenly, a scream filled with anger flooded the room, and everyone stopped what they were doing to see what had happened.

A group of teenagers dressed in school uniforms, made up of three boys and two girls, was surrounding another student who was lying on the floor, trembling.

However, the scream didn’t come from the person lying on the floor, but from one of those pushing him.

Seeing what was happening, everyone fell silent... for three seconds.

Soon after, people began talking and laughing among themselves, ignoring what was happening right before their eyes.

After all, it was a familiar scene.

“What are you doing? Why...” began the person lying on the floor as he tried to get up, only to be knocked down again with a kick.

“SHUT UP, TRASH!! Shouldn't I be the one asking that?!!! How dare you harass Wendy this morning?!!!” shouted a burly young man with brown hair, his loose uniform and marked muscles, as he hugged one of the girls at his side with his left hand.

“What? I didn’t do anything, I haven’t even seen her…” The boy's protests were cut short as he was struck again, while the others laughed with mocking eyes.

“How dare you respond after what you did?!!! Know your place!!!”

“Ha! Are you calling me a liar? How cruel you are!! Tatsu, do something, I’m scared,” said the girl with long black hair, clinging to the burly boy, pressing her body closer and closer to him.

Suddenly, the sound of the door opening filled the ears of everyone present. When they turned their heads, they saw the teacher who had just entered.

“What’s going on here?” the teacher asked in a tone that left no room for excuses.

“Teacher—” The boy lying on the floor tried to explain what was going on, only to be rudely interrupted.

“Teacher, this morning my friends and I saw Ronald bothering Wendy, and we asked him to stop. Still, when we got to class, he started bothering her again, and Tatsu stepped in to protect her. Unfortunately, Ronald fell to the ground. After that, Ronald started accusing us of attacking him and said we would regret it when you arrived,” said the only person in the group who hadn’t stood up since everything started.

“It’s true, it’s true, Ronald has been bothering me for days. I tried to tell him it wasn’t right, but he kept doing it. I don’t know what else to do, sniff, sniff.” As if she were an actress, Wendy stopped laughing and began shedding tears, holding the burly Tetsu tightly, not wanting to let go.

If this were the first time Zack saw this scene, he would think that Wendy was a poor victim of abuse who had reached her limit and couldn’t take it anymore.

Similarly, the teacher was not very surprised by the girl’s performance in front of her; she simply turned her gaze to the boy lying on the floor, his shirt marked with a shoe print, and asked:

“Ronald, is that true?”

“No, it’s not. They were the ones who attacked me for no reason when I—”

“YOU'RE LYING!!! We all saw it. How dare you deny it in front of the whole class?” While in the middle of explaining, Tetsu interrupted him with an angry look. If the teacher hadn’t been present, it was almost certain he would have kicked him again.

“I-I am not lying,” Ronald said.

The teacher closed her eyes for a moment and spoke in a tired voice:

“The class is about to start. We’ll deal with this later. Everyone, return to your seats.”

Seeing that the matter was about to be settled, everyone stopped what they were doing and went to their respective seats to start the lesson. Zack let out a sigh of relief for a moment, closed the book he had in his hands, and got ready to take out his school supplies.

“Wait, Miss Kaede,” said the boy seated.

“Yamato. I’ve already said this issue will be addressed later. Is there any reason I cannot start my class?” the teacher asked in confusion. Not just her, but most people in the class were surprised.

Most of the time, the problems caused by the group are Tetsu and Wendy’s fault, and Yamato rarely intervenes when something like this happens.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that there have never been conflicts where the rest of the group was involved. When you’ve been with them long enough, you realize Yamato is the one you should provoke the least.

Yamato, who had been sitting since the beginning, stood up and, as he approached Ronald, said:

“No, of course not. It’s just that this behavior is truly unacceptable. I’m sure Ronald will have to face the consequences of his actions, but it wouldn't be appropriate to act as if nothing happened and allow people to think what happened is not a matter of concern.”

Zack's and some other people's faces dropped when they heard Yamato’s words. The scene before their eyes had happened several times, but never before had Yamato, the principal's son, said anything about it. This was not good.

Obviously, this time Yamato did not intend to “forgive” Ronald.

“And according to you, what should we do?” asked the teacher indifferently.

“Ronald’s attitude toward Wendy is something that cannot be overlooked. Such actions should not serve as an example for any of us,” Yamato said, looking around as if his voice represented the whole class. “That’s why, before class starts, I expect Ronald to publicly apologize for what he did to Wendy. Otherwise, I’m afraid I cannot be near someone who can’t even admit their own mistakes,” Yamato said with a tone of justice in his voice.

“That’s right! He should apologize for what he did!” Tetsu said excitedly. Wendy beside him also had a trace of sick joy.

Ronald tried to find someone to back up his story but found no one willing to defend him.

Seeing that everyone was ignoring him, Ronald didn’t know what else to do. Obviously, he was the victim. Why should he apologize?

Although no one said anything and acted as if such scenes weren’t happening, the truth was that everyone was paying attention—some with fear, others with anger, and some even enjoying the atmosphere.

After all, everyone in the world has different values and ideals, but if there has been a common coexistence among these different groups, it’s because they have found certain shared ideas that favor people's coexistence.

Zack knew that most of the people present, including the teacher, didn’t like this senseless violence, and some were even disgusted by it.

Still, everyone ignored this scene.

This group of five people is considered the “popular” group. All of them are children or relatives of wealthy and influential people in society.

Tetsu is the son of a famous athlete, very popular in the sports world. Wendy is the daughter of the director of a major pharmaceutical corporation. The other two who didn’t intervene this time are Seto and Lorelei, twin siblings and grandchildren of the president of an international arms company.

Finally, Yamato, besides being the principal’s son, comes from an ancient family with great political influence in the country, and it is expected that once he finishes his studies, he will inherit his father’s position.

Even though everyone attending this school is part of the high society in one way or another, Yamato and his group are at the top of the pyramid. No one wants to face them, and especially not all five together. None of them would admit the slightest discourtesy.

After a standoff between Yamato and Miss Kaede, seeing that the situation was not progressing, the teacher closed her eyes and said:

“Ronald, apologize.”

Moments later, the atmosphere seemed to freeze, and lines of an unknown nature began to appear on the floor of the classroom.
