Chapter 136 136: The Howling and the Scythe—A Beastly Sideshow

---

Kent's pace quickened as he retraced his steps through the labyrinth of ruins, his SP harvesting temporarily forgotten in the wake of his newfound goal. Every now and then he'd glance at his system interface, checking his notifications and tallying his SP haul—which, by now, was nearly astronomical. But nothing in the system could comfort him as much as the thought of reuniting with his stubborn, fiery sister.

Back with Nima and her motley crew, the day's heat had grown ever more oppressive. The search party split up, each faction combing through different sectors of the area. Nima, flanked by Auri and a cluster of loyal beasts, led her group steadily onward. Their mission was clear: find Kent at any cost. Time was running, and the longer he was missing, the more trouble was sure to follow.

The ruins had shifted into an eerie twilight by the time Nima's band pressed deeper into the crumbling corridors. The midday heat had faded to a sultry haze as shadows danced among ancient stones.

Nima, Auri, and a now thoroughly chastened Fatty Li, still nursing the humiliations of his earlier misadventures, moved in tight formation.

"Stay alert," Nima commanded, her eyes narrowing at every twist of vine and every shard of broken stone. "I sense something… off." Her tone was both authoritative and electric; even the underling's beasts seemed to quiet their banter in her presence.

Auri flitted overhead, his tiny wings humming with cautious excitement as he scanned the ground. Fatty Li, now attempting to walk upright despite the lingering humiliation of being tied to a beast mere hours earlier, huddled behind Nima with a nervous fidget. Every so often, he would murmur apologies in a squeaky voice that made even the stones appear to cringe.

"Don't worry about it, fatty—I mean, Harper Li," Nima snapped sharply, then softened almost immediately as she caught his trembling eyes. "I'm counting on you to show that you can be useful. Prove to me you're more than just a walking, talking butt-pill factory!"

Before he could stammer another word, a tremor shook the ground. The distant sound of a monstrous roar vibrated through the ruin. Nima's gaze snapped upward. "That's no ordinary noise," she said, half-excited, half-wary. "Prepare yourselves!"

Within moments, emerging from a tunnel of tangled vines and moss-clad arches, a massive beast blustered into view. It was a Level‑C creature, a hulking, sinewy brute covered in mottled scales and exuding raw, ferocious spiritual energy. Its eyes glowed an angry amber as it surveyed the intruders with disdain.

The beast's roar, deep and resonant, thundered through the corridor, making the very stones tremble. "Who dares disrupt my slumber?" it bellowed in a voice like crumbling stone and searing heat.

Nima's hand shot to the hilt of her gifted weapon, a soul scythe that Kai had bestowed upon her just before entering this ruin. The scythe shimmered with an otherworldly light, its blade etched with runes pulsing in sync with her heartbeat. "We do, you overgrown lizard!" she shouted back. "And I'm about to teach you why I'm the boss around here!"

Note: She understand the beast because of her soul language skills. I am just reminding… incase someone forgot about it.

At her command, two familiar silhouettes materialized from the surrounding gloom: Raka, the dark, ethereal soul servant with eyes that could unnerve even the bravest warrior, and Lumo, the massive, soul bear spirit whose presence was as formidable as thunder. They flanked Nima as though anticipating her every move. Most of the beasts behind her were trembling they aren't suitable for this battle.

"Form up!" Nima ordered. "Auri, you circle around and provide cover fire with your claws. Harper… uh, Fatty Li stay close and support me if I need backup. Feed my strongest underling's beasts with those absurd pills of yours!" Her tone was both teasing and commanding, a trademark blend that unsettled enemies and inspired allies.

Fatty Li, now decidedly more submissive than his former self, stuttered, "Y-yes, Boss Nima." He clutched his tool-kit tightly, his eyes wide at the sight of the rampaging beast.

The Level‑C creature charged forward without waiting for further orders. Its spiked tail whipped through the air, smashing into a pillar with a resounding crash that sent shards of stone scattering like confetti. Nima sidestepped gracefully, her soul scythe arcing in a deadly curve as she countered. With a fluid motion, she slashed at the beast's flank—the sharp, luminescent blade cleaved through scales and sent a spray of spiritual essence into the air.

The beast roared in pain and fury, its amber eyes narrowing. With a savage snarl, it twisted its massive body and launched a volley of spined projectiles. Raka intercepted with a ghostly shield of dark energy, deflecting several spikes, while Lumo bellowed a thunderous rallying cry that sent others scattering.

"Time to turn up the heat!" Nima exclaimed, shifting her stance. She swept her arm, and her soul scythe spun around her like a vengeful wraith, drawing intricate patterns in the charged air. Each swing radiated sizzling spiritual power, slicing through the beast's momentum. With a graceful, almost dance-like twirl, she summoned a vortex of soul chains—a testament to her refined, brutal power.

Auri soared in tight circles overhead, raining down precise claws strikes with his gifted weapon, each contact sending delicate cracks through the beast's hide. Fatty Li, ever the comic relief despite his fear, trailed behind hesitantly. Every time the beast flinched, he shouted compliments or offered comically pathetic "strategic advice" that made even his own reflection look embarrassed. At one point, he yelped, "Boss Nima, your scythe looks like it could slice spaghetti in mid-air!" to which Nima retorted with a glare so fierce it could curdle milk.

The battle raged on in a cacophony of roars. Nima's scythe slashed in synchronized tandem with Raka's shadow strikes and Lumo's brutal, bone-cracking assaults. The beast staggered, its movements beginning to slow as fatigue and spiritual damage piled up against its formidable frame.

At last, with one perfectly timed swing, Nima's soul scythe drew a deep arc across the creature's midsection. The Level‑C beast let out an agonized bellow as it collapsed to its knees, fighting to remain upright. A final, thunderous blow from Lumo sent the beast crashing into a shattered column, its life force flickering like a dying ember.

"Victory!" Nima declared triumphantly. She paused, breathing heavily, as the echo of the beast's final roar faded. The underlings around her cheered raucously, some howling, others clapping their paws and claws, while Auri chirped a high-pitched, celebratory refrain.

Chip! Chip! "We did it. We beat the shit out a strong monster."

Fatty Li, eyes wide and still trembling from the ordeal, looked up at Nima in utter awe. "Boss… you… you are incredible," he managed in a voice that teetered on the brink of admiration and hysteria. With that, his entire demeanor shifted. In that moment, all of his earlier shame and reluctance melted away, replaced by a genuine, irreverent devotion.

Harper Li thinks to himself, "She is so strong. I only a Level-E cultivator. I could never think or dream of beating a beast this strong. But Kent's little sister beat it without any injuries. What level is she? How did she Cultivate?"

Nima's lips curved in a knowing smile. "That's right," she said, patting him on the shoulder. "From this day forward, you're not just some butt pill maker. You're officially part of Nima Nation. And don't you dare forget it. If anyone bully you, inform me. I will stand for you."

Fatty Li blinked, swallowing hard. "What's going on?. I'm her big brother's friend, yet I feel like I can count on her." he was thinking.

He Says out loud, "Okay, Nima." His tone was earnest, and though his earlier bluster remained in the echo of his words, it was now tempered by newfound respect.

Before long, the battle-scarred battleground quieted. Nima surveyed the aftermath, her gaze softening slightly as she regarded her underlings and the fallen beast. "Good work, everyone," she said in a voice that mixed authority with a hint of warmth. "This was a hard fight, but it shows that we're stronger together."

Auri, hovering near Nima's shoulder, chirped in high agreement. Fatty Li, still catching his breath, mumbled a meek, "Thank you, Nima," which drew a round of supportive applause from the surrounding beasts.

Nima then glanced in the direction she knew Kent might be. "Now," she said, more to herself than anyone, "we still haven't found my Big Brother. I'm beginning to wonder… maybe he's picking up girls. That's why he forgot his little sister."

Her tone was playful yet edged with genuine worry. "We need to move out and scout for him," she commanded. "And everyone else, keep your guard up."

The assembled crew grumbled but obeyed, reorganizing themselves into small groups that began moving out through the maze of ruins. Nima, Fatty Li, and Auri led one such group, their footsteps echoing on ancient stone as they advanced toward the next likely spot, an overgrown forest corridor that led directly to the heart of the Ruin Core.
