Chapter 450
Anton also thought that one reason any sea monsters did not attack them was because of how fast they were moving. He had been relentless in making sure that their little lifeboat was moving away from the location where the Amelia was destroyed by the undead, since he truly wanted to escape with his family.
By the time another week had passed, which was quietly announced by Anders to his two children, Anton’s Sorceress character in the ladder competition was already level seventy. After transferring a single minor health potion from the game to reality, he had only been choosing to transfer minor mana potions.
Although based on Anna’s testing of the mana potion, the minor mana potion benefit, which was to increase the rate of spell memorization by twenty percent, would only last for two hours. He did say to Anna that the mana potion was supposed to be consumed if a spellcaster had no more energy to cast spells. The potion was supposed to refill a mage’s energy so he or she could start casting spells again.
According to Anna, it would be quite difficult to test a function like that since their energy was always full because of Anton’s Meditation aura, so after a week of Anton transferring minor mana potions, he decided to switch back to a minor health potion and then gave it to his father for safekeeping. Of course, Anna would keep some for herself for emergencies.
Anna suggested that Anton create both mana and health potions since both were practical items.
After a month of traveling, Anton was beginning to crave sleep and knew that he would soon need to find an island to stop so he could sleep. Taking stock of his body, Anton knew that he could still go on and could still probably continue to go on for another month without sleep, but more than that, he would probably develop mental problems.
Instead of waiting for that time to arrive, it would be better for him to start looking for a place so he could get some shut-eye.
Anton knew that finding an island wasn’t a problem since, when they started running from the undead, he found an island almost once every three or four days. At worst, he could just let the lifeboat float in the ocean while he slept, but the fact that the waves in the ocean were a bit larger than he liked meant that he would not be comfortable doing something like that.
At around late afternoon, after four weeks of traveling, Anton encountered another small island and decided to stop there. He controlled the lifeboat and brought it to the island, and parked it under some coconut trees, but he didn’t dispel the Cloak of Shadows spell.
The island was small, and the three of them could see the ends without moving from where they were located. There were very few trees.
“Father, I need to sleep, so I parked our boat here. I recommend that you and Anna remain in the boat since we’re covered by the spell Cloak of Shadows.”
“I understand. Go ahead and rest, son,” Anders said, and without further ado, Anton slept in the bottom part of the bunk bed in the small cabin that he and his father made inside the lifeboat.
Anton didn’t forget to bring out the Pearl of the Ocean from his inventory, and after a couple of minutes, he was asleep.
The next time he woke up, it was extremely dark. Anton checked the time in his system browser and saw that it was two in the morning. He felt that he had slept for a month and was full of energy, so he summoned a light by casting the spell Fire Bolt and manipulating the mana so it would hover on top of his palm.
He was glad to see that all of his active spells were still ongoing, including the Cloak of Shadows. Anton really didn’t want to dispel the Cloak of Shadow spell since he felt that it was the reason why they were able to get away and why they were not attacked by sea monsters.
Anders and Anna were asleep in the boat since it was big enough and they were inside some comfortable sleeping bags. Anton went to the bathroom to relieve and freshen himself, and then cleaned everything using his Cleaning spell. then he woke up his father and his sister.
“What is it? Are we being attacked?” Anders asked.
“No, Father. I’m sorry to wake you both, but it’s time for us to leave. I’m still not comfortable staying in one place for too long.”
Anders and Anna simply nodded and, without any ceremony, Anton controlled their lifeboat, checked his compass, and proceeded to continue flying to the west.
“You’ve only slept for eight hours. Is that enough for you?” Anna asked his brother, and Anton nodded.
“I’m good to go for another month.”
Anders and Anna went back to sleep while Anton split his attention between controlling their boat and leveling up his Sorceress. He was excited to reach the maximum level since once he did, he would be able to take out a very powerful item from the game to the real world, and not only that, his energy stat in the real world would increase by twenty percent.
Before he joined a party, he spent a few minutes thinking of which item he could bring out. Anton knew that the first thing he should bring out was armor because not only would it increase his survivability, but it also had the capability of increasing his offensive power.
To be honest, he was tempted to prioritize getting an item that would increase his father's and his sister's survivability. One could argue that increasing his strength would be better in making sure that the three of them survive, but he couldn’t get over the fact that during the attack of the undead in the Amelia, Anders and Anna's chances of survival were extremely slim.
He decided that the first item he would bring out was the runeword armor Enigma. The three of them could use it, and its teleport ability would help make sure that whoever wears it would have a greater chance of surviving an attack.
Anton realized that with the amount of game time he was doing, he would be able to reach the maximum level of a character in roughly five weeks.
He then joined a party and started leveling his Sorceress character. He decided that once he reached level ninety-plus, he would start hunting for the best item that he could bring out, but his main focus would be the runeword Enigma.
Anton planned to bring out two items to give one each to his father and sister at the same time, so he wouldn’t show the first one that he would bring out yet. With how fast he was leveling up, there was a big chance that he could be in the top one hundred fastest to level up to ninety-nine, but since his Diablo II system did not indicate any reward for that, it was not important to him.
By the time the sun rose, he leveled up a few more times. He then exited the game so he could join his father and his sister for breakfast. Considering that it had been four weeks, there should have been a little difference in how they behaved, but it was still the same, just like the first day they woke up from the disaster that was the destruction of the Amelia. The gloom of grief still surrounded the three of them, and Anton didn’t know when it would start to fade.
What do you think?
