Multiversal Wanderer: Starting in Naruto

Chapter 89: Black-Braised Egg’s Thoughts

Chapter 89 - 89: Black-Braised Egg’s Thoughts

The top floor of the Sanfan Building served as Nick Fury's specially renovated office. With floor-to-ceiling windows on all four sides, the view overlooked a vast stretch of the cityscape.

All the glass had been imported from China—custom-made, bulletproof panels crafted by Fuyao Glass. They were so durable that even a grenade wouldn't shatter them. Nick Fury had these modifications installed when he first became the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

While the office had no high-tech gimmicks or hidden tricks, the sheer elevation and transparency of the space provided a sense of openness—and, more importantly, confidentiality.

An entire floor had been transformed into this minimalist, glass-walled workspace. Here, Fury could work undisturbed, soaking in the quiet and the view.

"Coulson, have you completed the mission? What about Rumlow?" Fury asked without looking up.

"Rumlow's still wrapping up the follow-up work," Coulson replied, stepping forward with a thick folder in hand. "I came to give you a full report. Here are the details."

He handed over the file—a well-organized dossier compiled overnight. Every phase of the operation was covered, complete with annotations and highlights. Fury flipped through the contents, nodding silently.

As always, Coulson had done an excellent job. He'd been Fury's right hand for years, and that hadn't changed. But lately, even Coulson's capabilities were starting to feel stretched thin.

Fury needed more people—more trustworthy subordinates. And not just capable agents, but loyal ones.

Pairing Rumlow with Coulson had been a test run. Rumlow, however, was originally Alexander Pierce's man. That meant he could be used—but never trusted.

"You recruited the vampire Selina and the werewolf leader Lucien?" Fury asked, glancing back at Coulson.

"Yes," Coulson confirmed. "I believe they have potential. Their physical abilities far exceed those of ordinary humans. And now, with the serum enhancements, their power has grown even further. S.H.I.E.L.D. is still sorely lacking in top-tier combat strength."

Fury leaned back in his chair, listening.

"Director, it's clear we're facing an increasing number of supernatural incidents. We can't handle everything with conventional agents. We need to expand our roster."

Fury didn't argue. "If they agree to join, you'll be in charge of overseeing them—training, missions, the works. But if they show any signs of hostility toward humanity, report it immediately. We'll deal with them."

"You mean... eliminate them?"

"Yes," Fury said flatly. "That's exactly what I mean. We stand on the side of humanity, Coulson. Selina and Lucien may look human, but they're not. I can't afford to trust them blindly."

He paused before adding, "We humans are fragile. After seeing the Kree with my own eyes, I realized we're not alone in this universe—and we're far from the strongest. But right now, we can't even secure our own backyard. So how can we expect to stand against threats from space?"

"As for Victor and the other vampires... their bodies will be used as research material. I won't hide that from you. They brought it on themselves. Coulson, when you swore in as an agent, you knew this job would bring hard choices."

Fury's eye narrowed.

"Now, tell me about Uzumaki Asaoka. How did the mission with him go? I'm particularly concerned about the Uchiha Office. That man—Su Xiuyu—he's on the same level as Captain Marvel. A real wildcard."

Coulson nodded. "Asaoka's personality is much more stable than Uchiha Chisato. he's a bit introverted, which can make him seem distant, but he's not difficult to work with. I heard Chisato went on vacation with Su Xiuyu and the others, but I'm not sure where they went."

"As for Asaoka's abilities—he's impressive. His wind-based breath attacks, incredible physical strength, and high-speed movements make him a formidable asset. I initially thought he used teleportation, but he denied it."

"Denied it?" Fury asked, raising an eyebrow.

"He claimed he hasn't mastered teleportation yet," Coulson replied. "Which implies that someone out there has. Maybe it's rare, but it's real. Or he could be lying, of course. Still, it's something to keep in mind."

"But what really stood out was his Sealing Technique," Coulson continued. "He said the Uzumaki clan specializes in sealing arts. It's an innate talent for them. Apparently, high-level seals from his clan can even withstand nuclear-level attacks."

Fury sat forward. "He actually said that?"

"Yes. Most people in the room laughed it off, but I didn't. He didn't strike me as someone who jokes around like that."

Fury didn't say anything for a long moment, letting the words sink in. If someone told him they could withstand a nuclear explosion, he might not believe it—unless that someone was Carol Danvers.

Captain Marvel could easily outfly a nuclear detonation, and the Kree had energy shields that rendered nukes pointless. If a Kree fleet landed, nukes would be a minor inconvenience at best. And space-based strikes? Earth wasn't there yet technologically.

But the thought of individuals shrugging off nukes—not through tech, but raw power? That was a different kind of threat altogether.

"If he wasn't joking, then that's a serious red flag," Fury muttered.

"I'm upgrading Uzumaki Asaoka's file to Level 10 clearance. Don't share anything about his without direct permission."

He glanced at Coulson.

"You've earned two days off. After that, I want you to visit the Mutant Academy—check in with Professor X. I don't have strong opinions on mutants one way or another, but they're still human. We might need them."

"Yes, Director," Coulson said, saluting before turning to leave.

Once the door shut behind him, Fury leaned back and spoke into the air.

"Lights out."

The office dimmed into darkness, save for the faint city glow from the windows. Fury's one good eye gazed over the skyline of New York.

"What a chaotic world we're living in," he muttered. "What the hell should I do now?"

"You're asking the wrong guy," came a voice from the shadows.

A green-skinned Skrull emerged from the corner of the room.

"I'm just a Skrull. This is your planet. Your mess. I don't interfere."

Fury didn't even flinch. "Where's General Talos? Are you authorized to speak on his behalf?"

The Skrull hesitated only briefly. "I'll be straight with you. Talos is in contact with the Uchiha clan. Mainly to train them in spacecraft operation."

Fury raised an eyebrow.

That made things even more complicated. The Skrulls were already homeless, drifting in search of a homeworld. The last thing Fury wanted was to offend them. And Su Xiuyu? He was too powerful to antagonize.

Fury exhaled quietly, tension pressing down on him like a weight.

So many pieces were moving on the board—and most of them weren't even human.

-----------

Miami's beaches were scorching under the summer sun, the golden sand filled with bikini-clad beauties and energetic surfers riding the waves.

In his previous life, Su Xiuyu never had the luxury of a beach vacation. Most people in Longguo didn't. The country's coastline wasn't particularly long, and vacation-worthy beaches were mostly limited to the southeastern region—especially Qiongzhou Island. Beaches in the mid- to high-latitude zones just weren't warm enough for casual getaways.

Now, Su Xiuyu had spent several days sunbathing under the blazing Miami sky. "If this were the DC Universe next door, the sun would've given me a body of steel by now," he joked inwardly.

But he hadn't just been lying around. While soaking in the sun, he took the time to sort through and reflect on his abilities.

After reaching the Six Paths level, Su Xiuyu's power had surged dramatically. He'd easily mastered Ice Release, a technique that had once eluded him. He'd even developed the Bloodline Elimination technique—Dust Release. His Bloodline Net could now condense all chakra types, though he still couldn't replicate the signature Ash-Killing Bones technique.

Not that he cared.

He was confident he could defeat Kaguya Otsutsuki now. Kinshiki and Momoshiki weren't even worth worrying about. Even Isshiki Otsutsuki, arguably the strongest among them, didn't intimidate him. On top of all that, he had fully mastered the magic of Kamar-Taj. At this point, there was nothing in the ninja world that truly scared him.

So yeah—he was finally relaxing.

Uzumaki Mito and Uchiha Chisato stood nearby, clearly enjoying the peaceful beach atmosphere too. Both had been basking alongside Su Xiuyu these past few days, savoring the sun.

"What a shame," Mito sighed. "The Land of Water could've totally built a tourist industry like this. From what I know, they've got tons of islands. There must be perfect spots for it. But I've never seen anything like this back in the ninja world."

Meanwhile, Chisato looked down at her skirt, visibly uncomfortable. She kept tugging at it shyly.

"It's okay, Chisato," Mito smiled. "We've got a barrier around us. Regular people can't see us at all. You don't need to pull your skirt down like that—only Xiuyu can see us. What are you so nervous about?"

"Only Xiuyu can see us..." That sentence made Chisato blush instantly, her fingers fidgeting as her discomfort doubled.

Su Xiuyu, standing nearby, heard every word—but wisely pretended he didn't. What was he supposed to say? No matter how he responded, it'd just make things worse. So he stayed quiet and shifted positions, turning to soak in more sunlight.

That's when he noticed something odd—a little boy standing just outside the barrier, staring directly at him.

That shouldn't be possible.

The barrier was invisible to ordinary people. Most lacked the spiritual strength to even perceive it. In the Marvel world, normal humans generally had weaker spiritual attributes than people from the ninja world, where chakra—the fusion of physical and spiritual energy—was the norm.

Only beings with exceptional spiritual power, like the Kree, came close. That alone said a lot about how evolution and civilization affected spiritual potential.

Judging by the boy's curious stare, Su Xiuyu guessed he was no ordinary kid. He probably had strong spiritual sensitivity from birth. Not unheard of—this world was huge. There were always outliers.

Su Xiuyu waved his hand, opening a small hole in the barrier so sound could pass through.

"What's up, kid? Where are your parents?" he asked casually. "Are you lost?"

The boy shook his head. "My mom, dad, and brother don't like me. So I'm just playing here alone. I saw your spot looked big and open, so I wanted to take a peek. I didn't mean to bother you. I'll leave right now."

Su Xiuyu raised an eyebrow. The kid was unusually well-mannered. He seemed like one of those children who'd been scolded too often at home.

"As long as you're not lost, you should still head back. Don't make your parents worry," Su Xiuyu replied.

"They don't care. They wish I would get lost," the boy muttered dejectedly.

Su Xiuyu didn't think too much of it. Kids could be dramatic. Getting scolded often made them feel unloved. Totally normal.

"Why would they say that?" he asked. "What about your brother?"

"They think I'm a freak," the boy said quietly. "Big brother... will you think I'm a freak too?"

Su Xiuyu smiled faintly. "Nah. I've seen real monsters. You look like a normal kid to me."

The boy took a cautious step forward, picked up a Coke bottle, and gently blew on it. Instantly, the liquid froze solid. He looked up at Su Xiuyu, waiting anxiously for his reaction.

Su Xiuyu was impressed—but didn't show it. Freezing a Coke? He'd seen far crazier things.

The boy's eyes lit up. It was the first time someone hadn't recoiled in fear or disgust after seeing his powers—not even his own parents had reacted this calmly.

"You're really not scared?" he asked in disbelief.

"What's there to be scared of?" Su Xiuyu replied with a grin. He pressed his hands together, forming a delicate ice lotus in his palm. "This is just a little trick. Can you make something like this?"

The boy's jaw dropped as he stared at the intricate ice flower.

"Big brother! Are you like me?" he exclaimed, eyes sparkling with hope. In that moment, it felt like he'd finally found someone who understood him.

Ice powers... Su Xiuyu thought for a moment. There was someone in the Marvel universe known for that. "What's your name?" he asked.

"Robert Louis Bobby Drake. But you can call me Bobby."

So it's Iceman, Su Xiuyu thought.

Bobby Drake was no ordinary mutant. His potential was enormous. When fully developed, he could reach Omega-level status. Unlike pyrokinetics who could only control fire, Bobby could create ice out of thin air—a distinction with massive implications.

Controlling fire was like holding a flamethrower. Creating ice? That was god-level elemental control, affecting atoms themselves.

After Su Xiuyu displayed his Ice Release, Bobby immediately grew attached to him. In Bobby's eyes, Su Xiuyu wasn't just powerful—he was someone who understood.

It was kind of a headache.

Sure, Bobby had promise. But honestly, Su Xiuyu wasn't lacking in combat strength. Even Omega-level potential wasn't particularly special when he already had several Uchiha who could summon Susanoo like Gundams. Uchiha Chisato could probably pilot one herself at this point.

"Bobby," Su Xiuyu said gently, "I know this makes you feel happy—finally finding someone like you. But you're still a kid. You should go back to your parents. Even if they seem distant, they might get worried if you're gone too long."

Bobby's smile faded. The joy in his eyes dimmed in an instant.

"I'm sorry, big brother... I didn't mean to be a bother. Goodbye." His voice trembled slightly as he turned and walked away, shoulders slumped.

Su Xiuyu watched him go, silent.
