Chapter 34 - 34 34 Ambiguous Distance_1

Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Ambiguous Distance_1 Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Ambiguous Distance_1 Su Wanxia returned to the office, and just the thought of Ding Nianzi calling him “Brother Chen, Brother Chen” ignited a nameless rage within her. Even she, who was always known as a workaholic, couldn’t settle down to work.

Annoyed, she turned off the computer screen, with one hand on her forehead and the other gently massaging her temple.

The more she thought about it, the more irritable she became. Now, she just wanted to keep her distance from him to cool down.

She stood up, gathered her things, and walked towards the door. Meng Can happened to come in from outside, and seeing her with her bag, he asked in surprise, “Summer, are you leaving work now?”

Su Wanxia gave an embarrassed smile, “Heh, yeah, I have some things to take care of today.”

“Oh, I see,” Meng Can nodded.

“Well, I’ll be off then, see you tomorrow.”

“Mm, see you tomorrow,” he replied.

Su Wanxia arrived at the parking lot and finally drove her car out, which had been sitting idle for nearly a month.

Actually, she could have driven much earlier since the injury on her foot was really not a hindrance. She just relished the feeling of being near him.

Today, she got home early, and even her mother was surprised, “Xiaxia, you’re back so early?”

“Yes, I wasn’t very busy today.”

Su Wanxia changed into slippers and sidled up to her mother, “Mom, what are you looking at?”

“Heh, just reading the newspaper to kill time at home,” she then added, “Xiaxia, are you working with Yingchen now?”

Su Wanxia pursed her lips, “Yeah, it’s required by the job.”

“Hmm, then you and Yingchen… are you…” Her mother hesitated, having seen Yingchen drop her off many times.

“Mom, there’s nothing to worry about between us,” Su Wanxia tried to downplay it to keep her mother from seeing anything unusual.

“Heh, that’s good then,” her mother finally felt relieved.

Su Wanxia stayed with her mother for a while before retreating to her room to space out. Her situation with Mu Yingchen was really complicated.

In the eyes of Ji Hua and the others, her relationship with him hadn’t changed much from the beginning.

But she was well aware that her relationship with Mu Yingchen could only remain as ambiguous as it was now. Some things, once said, can be hurtful to both.

The next morning, she walked out the door as usual, but only after stepping out did she remember that she had driven home the previous day. Smacking her forehead, she returned to the garage and drove herself to the company.

Around 9 a.m., the secretary announced that there would be a meeting at 10 o’clock for all Bali Island project staff.

This time, Su Wanxia played it smart. She and Meng Can arrived at the meeting room early, choosing seats far away from the head of the table. Meng Can even joked that she was being as picky as a student choosing a seat.

Wen Lingya also came with them, and went to the office to choose the first seat on the right-hand side of the head, as there was no specific seating order for this meeting without many top executives present.

Seeing this, Su Wanxia shrugged at Meng Can, and he just shook his head with a laugh.

After a few minutes, the attendees trickled in. At 10 o’clock, Mu Yingchen, Ji Hua, and Secretary Aisha entered with an air of cool indifference.

Everyone seated promptly stood up to greet him, “President Mu.”

Mu Yingchen acknowledged them with a nod, gesturing with his hand for everyone to sit down.

From the moment Mu Yingchen entered, Su Wanxia sneaked a peek at him and kept her head down until she sat down, not daring to raise her head to look at him.

Mu Yingchen glanced at the person sitting far from him with their head lowered, his obsidian-like eyes narrowed slightly before he shifted his gaze away to address everyone indifferently, “The project has been underway for a month, have any departments encountered any problems?”

The person in charge of planning was the first to speak, “President Mu, everything in the planning department is proceeding smoothly.”

Mu Yingchen nodded and looked toward Su Wanxia’s direction, unaware that his inquiring gaze had already fallen on her as she was still keeping her head down.

Meng Can, noticing Su Wanxia constantly keeping her head down, raised his head to speak to Mu Yingchen, “In the early stage, our design department didn’t have much work, so there were no problems.”

Hearing Meng Can’s voice, Su Wanxia slowly raised her head and added her voice, “Yes.”

Wen Lingya, excited to see Mu Yingchen inquiring about their work progress, said to him, “President Mu, I’ve designed a few decorative styles; after the meeting, how about I show them to you?”

Mu Yingchen turned his gaze to Wen Lingya on his right and spoke impassively, “The decoration style of a massive structure is also one of its souls; I hope your design department will create a perfect plan together before showing it to me.”

Wen Lingya was somewhat at a loss, feeling full of confidence when Mu Yingchen’s gaze fell on her, but realizing she shouldn’t have impulsively shown off after hearing what he said.

“Yes,” she replied, somewhat embarrassed.

In fact, regarding the aspect of decoration design, the main focus was still on Meng Can and Su Wanxia; after all, they were world-renowned designers with rich experience, insight, and many successful cases. Wen Lingya was merely a figure placed in the design department by Mu Group.

Yet she was completely unaware, and while Meng Can and Su Wanxia said nothing, she performed this act, becoming a veritable clown.

Immediately after, Ji Hua emphasized a few matters, and after some discussion, the meeting was adjourned.

Fearing she would be left behind again, Su Wanxia stood up as soon as the meeting ended and headed for the door without waiting for Wen Lingya, calling Meng Can to join her.

Meng Can looked at Su Wanxia with amusement, “Summer, you’re acting quite strangely today.”

Su Wanxia laughed nervously, “Not at all.”

“Not at all?”

“Not at all.”

On the way back to the office, Meng Can mentioned wanting to go back to F City to visit his parents now that work wasn’t too busy. Su Wanxia let out an exaggerated expression, looking at him.

Without him, there would be no one she could get along with in the office; she would die of boredom, having no interest in what’s-her-name, Wen Lingya.

“What’s the matter? Worried that you’ll have no one to talk with when I’m gone?” Meng Can teased her with an all-knowing expression.

Not pretending, Su Wanxia nodded and whispered, “Forcing me to be in the office with that Wen Lingya every day would drive me mad.”

“Haha,” Meng Can laughed, unable to stand such women himself.

The two chatted and laughed as they returned to their respective offices. After a while, Wen Lingya came back to the office slowly, her face clearly unhappy.

Su Wanxia shook her head and continued to bury herself in her work.

Not long after lunch, Su Wanxia was planning to rest in the office’s lounge when an unexpected visitor arrived.

The receptionist informed her that someone was looking for her. She thought it was Kang Xiaolan, who had just delivered a loving meal to Mu Feng, coming to see her, but it turned out to be the last person she wanted to see at the moment.

Ding Nianzi entered with her chin proudly raised, looking at Su Wanxia coming out of the office and let out a disdainful snort, her resentment growing tenfold.
