Chapter 26 - 26 26 Xiaojing_1
Chapter 26: Chapter 26 Xiaojing_1 Chapter 26: Chapter 26 Xiaojing_1 Following the source of the sound, a massive creature caught her eye, a small twinkle of surprise flickering in her gaze.
This…
In the sunlight, a snowy wolf stood proud and tall. Its four limbs were agile and imposing, but what drew more attention was the small tuft of fiery red hair on its forehead. Its dark eyes emitted a chilling and penetrating light, exerting an intimidating pressure.
Before Jian Qing could react, the snow wolf charged towards her like an arrow released from a bow. Its shiny dark eyes staring single-mindedly at her, it approached with unstoppable momentum.
Realising that the snow wolf harboured no malice or murderous intent, Jian Qing wasn’t afraid. She chuckled lightly, bent her flexible waist, propped herself up with a single hand, and then flipped backwards to avoid the pouncing snow wolf with neat finesse.
“Howl––” Missing Jian Qing, the sharp eyes of the snow wolf dulled a little. This dull look was undoubtedly dull and adorable, which made Jian Qing chuckle.
At this point, Jian Qing no longer felt the urge to leave and instead sat down on the grass. She raised her hand and gestured to the snow wolf, “Big fellow, come here!”
The snow wolf was very intelligent. Hearing Jian Qing call for it, it immediately ran towards her wagging its tail. It came with such force that it almost knocked Jian Qing down.
Snow Wolf: The lady likes me. Her scent smells so good.
Jian Qing couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the sight of the Snow Wolf lounging on her. Why did it give her a sense of familiarity, as if she was being reminded of an Alaskan Malamute?
Yes, just with one look, Jian Qing could see that the wolf before her was no ordinary wolf. It was an uncommon species, the Snow Wolf King, and it was purebred too.
“Big fellow, is your fur dyed?” Jian Qing stroked the beast’s fur with one hand while picking at the fiery-red hair on the snow wolf’s forehead with the other.
All its fur was snowy white, save for a small tuft that was fiery red. Truly odd.
As the snow wolf comfortably savoured Jian Qing’s gentle strokes, letting out soft growls, it seemed to communicate, “My lady, this is the symbol of the Wolf King. It’s definitely not dyed.”
On the grassland, the woman and the beast got along quite harmoniously.
Jian Qing was so immersed in studying the snow wolf that she didn’t notice someone approaching from behind her.
The snow wolf perceived the presence of the newcomer. As its shiny black eyes met the newcomer’s purple ones, the alertness in its eyes dissipated, and it gently nestled into Jian Qing’s embrace.
Quan Jingwu had originally come looking for the snow wolf; however, he didn’t expect to encounter her. He halted his steps, the reflection of her smiling face shining in his purple eyes. Trapped within her charm, he felt a budding affectionate longing in his heart.
Her white robe fluttered in the morning breeze, her deep-black hair swaying gently. Her pure eyes were mesmerising, her smile captivating. It was as if she embodied all the stars in the universe — bright and intoxicating. Her petite frame further accentuated a temperament that made her seem ethereal and detached from this world.
In that moment, Quan Jingwu found her slightly raised smile exceedingly captivating.
If someone had told him long ago that he would fall in love at first sight, he would have scoffed. However, now, he seemed forced to believe in such a thing.
Her blooming smile lay etched in his gaze, yet it remained untouchable behind a layer of obscurity. This perception stirred something within him, leaving him with a faint sense of hollow emptiness in his heart.
Quan Jingwu could clearly feel his heart, silent for over 20 years, slowly awakening. In that moment, he understood: his impending fate was finally catching up.
“Big fellow, do you have an owner? If not, how about you go home with me? I can take care of you. How does that sound?” Unaware of the drastic change in the newcomer’s heart, Jian Qing looked up, a tender yet witty smile hanging at the corner of her mouth.
Despite what she said, she understood that the Snow Wolf was likely to belong to one of the families within Shijin Haoting. After all, the security at Shijin Haoting was exceptional. The presence of such a large snow wolf within the complex would undoubtedly have drawn attention, unless its owner held an influential position.
Watching the snow wolf freely nuzzle against her, Quan Jingwu felt a twinge of jealousy.
“Howl––” Sensing its master’s displeasure, the snow wolf stood up and let out a few low growls.
Jian Qing seemed to sense something and turned around, her eyes filled with surprise.
It’s him!
How did she not notice him? Had she let her guard down recently?
After zoning out for a few seconds, Jian Qing quickly regained her composure. The snow wolf that had been in Jian’s arms was now already by Quan Jingwu’s feet.
So the snow wolf was his. Of course, it makes sense that he could own a snow wolf in Shijin Haoting. After all, the entire grand Shijin Haoting belonged to him.
Standing up and brushing the grass clippings off her trousers, Jian Qing lifted her camera and walked towards him.
“Good morning, Lord Quan,” Jian Qing greeted softly.
Quan Jingwu scowled slightly before responding, “Morning.”
“The Snow Wolf is really adorable.” Jian Qing glanced at the Snow Wolf squatting by Quan Jingwu’s feet and said with a smile, “I’ll be going now and won’t interfere with your morning exercise.”
“Wait!” With a big stride forward, Quan Jingwu blocked her path.
“Hmm?” Jian Qing looked up at him quizzically.
“Call me by my name.” A low, icy voice resonated from above, taking Jian Qing aback.
Jian Qing found his words slightly amusing. Holding back her laughter, she looked at his usually expressionless face and decided to tease him.
A gentle wind blew as the two stared each other down.
“Quan Jingwu?” She said slowly and calmly.
“Something else.” His full name felt too impersonal.
Jian Qing walked towards Quan Jingwu gracefully, “How about ‘Master Jing’ then?”
She remembered that many people addressed him as such.
Quan Jingwu clearly disapproved, “Try another.”
Alright then, if you say so.!
“How about…” Jian Qing’s lips curled into a teasing grin as she deliberately elongated her words, “‘Xiao Jing’?”
Imagine calling the renowned ‘Lord Jingwu’ of Beijing as ‘Xiao Jing’… Wasn’t this contrast just too adorable?
“Okay.” A low, gentle voice echoed from the man. His tone was serious.
Jian Qing had only jokingly suggested the name. She didn’t expect him to take it seriously. She thought aloud, if she publicly called him this way, it would definitely lead to misunderstandings.
“I was just joking. You don’t have to take it seriously.”
However, a faint smile tugged at Quan Jingwu’s lips. “But I am serious.”
What do you think?
