Chapter 79 - 79 79 Accidental Discovery
79: Chapter 79: Accidental Discovery 79: Chapter 79: Accidental Discovery “Tsk!
I didn’t expect this to end up being a fool’s errand.
If I had known these damned undead were so powerful, I wouldn’t have targeted them.” After self-evaluating the reasons for his failed plan, Zhou Tian shifted his gaze to the horde of undead monsters.
“It seems my decision to hold back was correct.
If I hadn’t, I’d probably be pinned down by the puppet maker right now.” With a sigh, Zhou Tian waved a command, prompting his Beastman warriors into action.
Upon Zhou Tian’s command, the Beastman warriors retreated, clearing the entrance to the second layer of the Skeleton Cave.
Then, as each of the undead monsters in the cave eagerly prepared to charge forward, they were greeted by a relentless rain of arrows.
Zhou Tian hadn’t lied to the other bosses.
There was indeed a limit to the number of arrows carried by the Beastman archers.
However, they’d entirely overlooked one issue under his deliberate guidance.
Although a Beastman archer refreshes his supply of arrows once a day, it doesn’t mean they could only launch one or two waves of attacks!
The bosses had nothing to say when Zhou Tian made his explanation.
But they seemed to have forgotten that Zhou Tian had only launched one or two waves of arrow rain in the previous attack on the undead monsters.
One can’t possibly believe that an archer only carries a couple of arrows in his quiver for an entire day!
So naturally, Zhou Tian had not exerted his full strength yet.
Now, Zhou Tian, who had previously held back, took out his trump card to prevent excessive casualties among his Beastman warriors.
As the Beastman warriors retreated, Zhou Tian assembled the Beastman archers into several squads.
They then launched a rotating attack on the entrance of the passage.
In wave after wave of arrow rain, the eagerly charging undead monsters had no choice but to brace themselves against the onslaught of arrows due to the confined space.
Consequently, most of them fell and died on the spot.
Thus, as Zhou Tian’s Beastman archers fired relentlessly, the undead monsters kept falling one after another.
Whenever a squad of Beastman archers ran out of arrows, Zhou Tian switched to another squad.
With Zhou Tian’s large group of Beastman archers, forming several squads was not an issue.
They might not be able to attack indefinitely, but they could certainly hold off the undead monsters long enough with the occasional fearful retreat and additional help from the Beastman warriors.
“How boring, when will these guys finally retreat!” Watching his Beastman archers shoot continuously and the undead monsters dying in the passage below, Zhou Tian began to feel restless.
Zhou Tian saw that wave after wave of undead monsters were killed, and the number of those who died under the rain of arrows far surpassed the previous casualties in the war, yet they kept emerging endlessly.
If it were normal times, Zhou Tian would have retreated long ago.
But unfortunately, he didn’t want the puppet maker to discover his trump card.
So, no matter how boring it was, he had to stay in the skeleton cave and fight alongside his Beastman warriors.
From boredom, Zhou Tian began to look around aimlessly.
To his surprise, he made an unusual discovery.
“What’s that?” While watching the undead monsters marching towards their death, Zhou Tian noticed a small light orb that had appeared at the entrance of the second layer.
Typically, monsters disappear quickly after death, leaving nothing behind, including any items they carried.
In other words, whatever Zhou Tian was seeing couldn’t have been left behind by the dead undead monsters.
Zhou Tian was certain nothing was supposed to be at the entrance from the first to the second layer of the cave before.
If nothing was supposed to be there and the dead undead monsters theoretically wouldn’t leave anything behind, Zhou Tian couldn’t help but be curious upon seeing a light orb sudden appear.
Naturally, that curiosity wouldn’t leave Zhou Tian standing idle.
In contrast to the puppet maker and its allies who found guarding the passage tedious, such a job was not at all bothersome for Zhou Tian.
So, without a second thought, Zhou Tian commanded his Beastman archers to cease fire and commanded a squad of Beastman warriors to clear the way as he approached the position of the light orbs.
Unsure if it was because the Beastman archers had broken their morale, or the hyperactive performance of Zhou Tian’s Beastman warriors, but despite being significantly weaker, Zhou Tian was able to repel the undead monsters with ease and reached the location of the light orbs.
“What on earth is this?” Once Zhou Tian reached the light orb, he was sure he had never seen anything like it before.
Out of curiosity, he couldn’t help but want to study it.
Of course, considering the current conditions, it wasn’t suitable for Zhou Tian to examine the light orb on the spot.
So, he decided to take it back with him.
“Hmm, I’m not sure if I can touch this.
Let’s use an axe just in case!” Fearing the orb might have corrosive properties, Zhou Tian dared not touch it directly.
Instead, he took out his double axes, intending to lift the light orb with the blades.
But…
What do you think?
